More Than A Feeling

Guest Post by Grog

“When I’m tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away”

Tom Scholz

I know this is more than slightly off topic for the situational questions of the times, but I cannot help but wonder if others, especially TBPers, are getting some of the same vibes I have been getting.

I cannot quite put my finger on it. The closest reference to what I am trying to get through is the notion of political discussion at Thanksgiving. I saw more than a few articles about how it may be a good idea to keep one’s thoughts to one’s self, especially political/cultural ones. What I am feeling is an absence of something, not a presence. Little things are out of place, the background noise attenuated or absent.

Many times in the course of business, one picks up on behaviours and endeavors of those in sales and technical support with companies one deals with. After some time, it is not unusual to know that they like to garden, or boat, or enjoy sports and any of several pastimes. I find that now the idle banter is kept to a minimum.

At first I thought that perhaps business was getting more competitive and ‘tighter’, less time to spend and more sales to make. But then, I noticed that this trend, if I can even call it that, extends to forays to my favourite and local hardware store. Guys that I have known for years are suddenly desultory in conversation.

There has been one noticeable exception. Last week I was the local barber. At first nothing was uttered except for the usual “how ya doin’ taday?”. There was a song playing on the radio, a country song. I used to like some country music but not so much now. To me the artists sound similar to other country music artists in style etc. However, I have seen recent reference to a country song rising sharply in the charts. The song is “Take a Knee, My Ass”. I asked Scott, the barber, if he had heard that song. My guess is that he understood the reference of the song.

I was surprised. He. Exploded.

He was apoplectic. Through the spray of spittle and red faced rage, the fragments of intelligible words I could understand had to do with honouring Vets. “Moral outrage, how dare those bastards”

That example is not what I am referring to. I’d call it a “close but no cigar” response.

I sense fear. I sense dread. I sense angst.

But most of all I can almost smell the acrid metallic pungency of blood.

“When people have nothing left to lose, they lose it” Gerald Celente

“The most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing to lose.” James A. Baldwin

Have you ever seen the face of a guy when he is calmed, his eyes focus intently and you realize that you are about to break the skin on his knuckles with your face?

No noise, no warning, just that look, that feeling you get. Then, the knuckles.

That’s what I’m feeling now. No, not the knuckles, the calm. White noise fades to soundlessness.

“Then it all came rushing back to me like the hot kiss at the end of a wet fist.”

Maybe I’m becoming deaf?

Maybe I am a Cricket?

What do you TBPers think?

“Daddy, are we there yet?”

“The earliest documented case of unusual animal behaviour prior to an earthquake is recorded by the Roman historian Aelian in 373 B.C.; five days before an earthquake destroyed the city of Helike (once located at the coast of the Corinthian Gulf) various animals, like rats, weasels, snakes, centipedes and bugs supposedly emerged from the underground and fled from the city. In the following centuries many other cultures associated earthquakes with animals.”

What you are experiencing is what is quite often referred to as slogging through the swamp. The climactic ending is ahead, but without being able to see through the heavy branches ahead, we don’t quite know what the final confrontation offers to any of us.

That silent determination can also be the decision to walk away.

Be ready to respond appropriately whichever way it goes.

As for political discussion, I try to avoid it with those I wish to retain an important relationship with for whatever reason I find the relationship important.

Much like a volcano that has gone quiet after moving and shaking for a time without erupting.

WATCH OUT!

I have a feeling when that “fuck it” moment arrives, it’ll be just like the N flank of Mt. St Helen’s sliding off and uncorking the pent up pressure beneath.

I dont think a lot of people get this or know what that calm before the storm of rage is because theyve never been punched, they think mean words they disagree with (aka hate facts) equal physical violence.

There is gonna be some tough times ahead and the soy boys and pajamas douches are gonna be in for a rougher lesson than some of us.

From a comment at WRSA today…

The truly dangerous man does not wear camouflage fatigues or muscle shirts. He does not talk loudly, boast how tough he is, give demonstrations or make threats. The truly dangerous man dresses inconspicuously and is soft-spoken. He walks away from most confrontations. The only time you learn that the truly dangerous man is mad at you is a split second before you die, for he never fights. He only kills. The truly dangerous man knows that fighting is what children do and killing is what men do.

However, there are some of us who have felt this same angst for several years. Culture has left us behind and we wait for it to finally self correct to something we recognize again.

Sorry Doug, there will be no self correct. We’re all on a magical journey into the future. The white knuckles and stretched faces are on those who have made no preparation for the future. They are the reactive herd. The herd will make the most noise as they diminish in number. Notice I said herd and not flock. Sheep get a bad rap here, some call followers, sheeple. Those that find common ground and friendship with neighbors and others will fair best. Better to act like a sheep than a snorting angry bull. If you are waiting for something you will recognize again, good luck with that. If you have made any preparations at all, then you can focus your energy there and take solace that you are facing into the coming storm and will see it sooner than most. If you have made no preparation for the future, good luck with that too.

The worm is turning-I’ve fucking had it up to here for about a decade or more. I’m not capable of believing these rat bastards could be any worse but then every day another layer of onion peels back & reveals even more fetidness.

Ever see one of those videos where the moron has a gas soaked trail of leaves leading to pile? And stands there stupidly trying to get the fuse going. And when it does, it’s like 1 second as the fire races to the pile and explodes covering the moron with flaming leaves?

yeah, that’s what is happening

All of the wisdom, patience, confidence, and direction of the last Hero generation is now fully extinguished. Naturally we will flounder about untill we create the despair necessary for this Hero generation, The Millenials, to have thier trail by fire.
The quiet, the rage, and chaos are all a product of living in a paradigm built by others whom are no longer around.

Slow motion roller coaster ride. It’s like the knuckles are always there and each day they seem a little closer, but no impact yet. There is a brief lull, where instead of watching the fist, you look around at your family, friends and maybe the beautiful sunset as you prepare for bed in your secure home. But still the fist remains, a little closer than before, as you wait for the final impact. Today, tomorrow, next year; who knows.

My father and all his cronies used to react the same way about Jane Fonda as your barber did to mention of ‘take a knee’.

Kinda same same for me. Except I could never understand how people got so upset about what a bimbo actress did. We did gain very valuable intel from her visit. I believe it was a covert set up. My good friend told Jane and Ted that when they were turkey hunting on his South Georgia farm. She liked my speculation I was told. And how could I not like Barbarella.

Take a knee has no redeeming value in my book. And I don’t watch it either.

What planet are you from, Jane Fondle is and always will be a traitorous bitch to me and all my veteran brothers. The image of her on that gun battery tells a story that can’t be denied!

Take a knee in no way can be seen as disrespectful to our veterans and I have a house full of them from WW2,Korea, Vietnam,DesertStorm, and all the ones not mentioned in the headlines.Take a knee was only in reference to the way the police forces across this great country were shooting indiscriminately a lot of American citizens. This is still an ongoing issue. The local police forces across this country are being used to solve problems that are not solved by a bullet. The host of social problems that we are experiencing are caused primarily by the push by corporate America to gut the economy by taking jobs off shore and then exporting the products back here to sell to those that were put out of work by moving the jobs overseas. If we are truly angry let’s be angry at the cause of the conditions not the people who are suffering from them. This issue is not coincidental it is intentional and very well planned out by the corporate entities who run this country.I am very concerned about the collateral damage that has been done and the damage that will be done by citizens reacting to the conditions that threatens all of us. Let’s not go for the very convenient fall guy and forget the ones who caused the problems. They will be laughing at us all the way home as they return from another cocktail party.

Collateral damage of race hustling, it’s been going on since the sixties. The conditions will never be met for it to end, too much money involved. Al Sharpton will always have a job! The conditions are set in stone and stoked by shameless politicians to remain in power. Screw you Reginald!

Collateral damage has been going on longer than the 60s it has been going on since we as humans started believing that someone else other than ourselves were responsible for saving our souls. As for Sharpton add him to a long, long, list of hustlers who have come from every ethnic group here in this country. We don’t have to call names we know who they are.

I can see where Grog is coming from.

A good cure is not giving a fuck. You think I jest. I do not. Remember how groovy you felt after smoking some bong? ( Some of you still do.) “Yo, Coyote, your dick caught fire! It’s smoldering, man!” EC: “Yeah? So what.”. Not giving a fuck is just like that.

The “cure” as you suggest Stucky, I agree.
The problem, for me, is that I cannot un-see what I see.
Stucky, are you able to “not give a fuck”?

FWIW, how many times have we seen Stucky encourage others to contribute to the content of TBP?
Yous pays your money an’ takes your chances.
So, thanks, ya kraut.

Hey, I even encouraged KeyserSusie to submit an article! I’m still waiting.

At some point the producers of society will eliminate the non-producers. It simply must happen. How the elimination occurs – forcing the non-producers to work, for instance, or by some more drastic means – is yet to be determined.

It will get ugly.

I read in a post on here just the other day, about going broke “slowly – then all at once”. I have the feeling that this is happening to our culture in general, not just financially. We are rapidly approaching the “all at once” part.

Moreover, I think it’s something that a lot of people are feeling, even if they are unaware of it. I’ve said it before: My 15 year old kid – and her friends – all basically know this is happening. They will even talk about it at times. They know that there’s a shit-storm coming, and they know it will fall to them to pick up the pieces of what is left.

The average man will not rise up as long as his property is safe:
“when he is obliged to take the life of any one, to do so when there is a proper justification and manifest reason for it; but above all he must abstain from taking the property of others, for men forget more easily the death of their father than the loss of their patrimony.”
from The Prince, by Niccolò Machiavelli (1513)
