NEW PRESIDENT – SAME BLS BULLSHIT

I spent most of Obama’s presidency obliterating the jobs recovery narrative every month, as millions supposedly left the workforce because their financial situation was so wonderful. The bullshit shoveled by the BLS was nothing but manipulated misinformation then and it is still bullshit now. Just because the president is now Trump, doesn’t make the false narrative about a strong jobs recovery now valid. After a disappointing December jobs report, the cackling and tooting of horns might die down a little, but the propaganda peddlers will somehow spin it as a positive. Buy Stocks!!!!

Candidate Trump railed against the fake data put out by the BLS. He railed about the ridiculously low interest rates manufactured by the Fed. He declared the stock market was a bubble ready to burst. That was over 5,000 points ago. As expected, now that he is el presidente, Trump embraces the fake data, low interest rates and the most overvalued stock market in history. He tweets about the great economy and stock market every day. GDP has risen at a scintillating 2.5% pace in 2017. This is up from 2% in the prior two years, driven by people going further into debt to survive or buy shit they don’t need.

The narrative being propagated by the corporate MSM was this was the best holiday retail season in years. Americans were back to spending like drunken sailors. Trump is making America great again, so why not spend money we don’t have using that little piece of plastic. Those future tax savings will more than pay the bill. Except for a couple nagging questions.

Why did Sears and Macy’s just announce massive new store closures? Why do they, along with JC Penney and dozens of other retailers, continue to report hundreds of millions in losses? Why did 2017 see over 7,000 store closures and a record number of retail bankruptcies? Why would 20,000 retail jobs disappear in December, the biggest retail month of the year? Why did the country add 203,000 retail jobs in 2016 but lose 67,000 jobs in 2017 if the consumer is back baby? Something doesn’t smell right about the economic boom narrative.

asd

If the unemployment rate was really 4.1% there would be tremendous upward pressure on wages as companies competed for a dwindling number of workers. The ball would be in the worker’s court. Wages have gone up by a pitiful 2.5% in the last year. Meanwhile, even the lying BLS has inflation running at 2.2% in the last year. That means real wages are up a pathetic 0.3%. And if we admit we are living in the real world where inflation is really running at 5%, then real wages have fallen 2.5% in the last year. Does this happen when the employment market is strong? Wage growth has been stagnant in the 2% to 2.5% range since the economic crisis.

asd

How is it that Trump tries to take credit for the jobs added since election day? He wasn’t the president. He had implemented nothing to influence the job market. Let’s face it, presidents have virtually no impact on the jobs market, especially when they have passed nothing legislatively to impact the market. Companies do not hire because they love the new president. They hire either to grow business or because it has already grown. Obama was elected in the midst of an economic meltdown. The horrific job losses from November 2008 until Obama took office were nitwit Bush’s. The same applies now. Trump gets to take credit for everything since February. Not before.

So let’s see how we’ve done since February.

  • The working age population rose by 1.8 million, while employed Americans rose by 1.5 million, but as usual the unemployment rate somehow fell from 4.7% to 4.1%.
  • As long time readers know, according to the drones at the BLS, it fell because another 1.3 million able bodied working age Americans decided to leave the labor force of their own free will. There are now 95.5 million, or 37.3%, of the entire working age population – not working. An all-time high.
  • The participation rate and employment to population ratio continue to hover at or near 40 year lows. This is surely a sign of a booming jobs market.

asd

  • According to the Household Survey, only 104,000 jobs were added in December, while 96,000 left the labor force. Does that sound as robust as our Orange Moses has proclaimed from the mountaintop?
  • Any honest assessment of our true unemployment rate would put it north of 15%.
  • It seems 100,000 of the jobs added in December were part-time jobs. For the maff challenged, that means a total of 4,000 full-time jobs were added. And the cherry on top is the fact 50,000 of the jobs added were self-employment – you know – trading bitcoin and selling crap on eBay.
  • And now the really great news. The number of multiple job holders went up by an astounding 305,000. Think about that for a minute. When over 7.6 million people have to work multiple jobs and the number is accelerating, does that paint a positive picture of our economy and the supposedly strong jobs market?

So all the talk of a Trump economic miracle is overblown. During Obama’s last year in office the economy was generating 130,000 new jobs per month and since Trump has been in office we’ve been adding 150,000 per month on average. The jobs are still part-time shit paying jobs. Nothing has changed. Even though Trump was going to declare war on China and Mexico when it came to trade, the trade deficit has grown by over 10% since he’s been in office to over $550 billion. The manufacturing jobs are not coming back. And now even the lousy retail jobs are disappearing.

The BLS will report more of this swill next month and when another 500,000 Americans decide to kick their feet up and live the good life, the unemployment rate will drop to 3.8%. It can’t be long until 0% unemployment with 150,000 million American not working. So it goes.

Trump has a lot more serious items on his agenda than fixing the crooked Government statistics.Later on, maybe..Squashing the pedophile and child trafficking rings would be one major item, which would also drain much of the Swamp, heavily involved in those activities. And a lot of Republicans will go down with the rest of these monsters.

The loss of retail jobs is not the presidents fault. When it comes down to store closures in retail, there is no one to blame but them selves. Technology is changing and when a company refuses to change with the times they will be left behind. Just like the atrack, cassette, minidisc, and CD’s they are obsolete. Who goes and buys music at a store these days? If I want to listen to music I can stream entire albums from my phone. The video store… what happend to that industry?? A little strart up company called NETFIX made an offer to Blockbuster with the intention of becoming even bigger. What did the do?? They laughed and said no.. were are they now? Then came a small company who started selling books. That company made the necessary changes to catch up to the times to become relevant. That company is known as Amazon. Yes, its the Freddy cougar of the retail industry. While companies like Macy’s, Sears, Jc pennys among others were a sleep, Amazon came in and took most of there business overnight causing chaos in the retail industry. When the retail giants wanted to change, it was too late causing a domino affect. These days people dont want to drive around a malls parking lot and wait for some to leave and open space, walk in a store and shop. They don’t want to wait in long lines.. Why? If I can do all of my shopping from the comfort of my own home. I see something I like on line or on T.V, I log in to my Amazon Prime account and ”Done!” in 5 min or less. I get free delivery and my purchase will sent to my door step in 1 to 2 days. My prediction is that malls will be no more. All the Retial Giants remind me of the dinosaurs and Amazon was that big astroid that hit earth. Alot of them diminish on impact and the rest started dying off slowly. Sad but true.

The same phenomenon is happening in Europe and Japan. Official unemployment is dropping. Now you can conclude that every government statistical agency is lying and, admittedly they have a motive to do so, or something else is going on like an ageing work force causing a decline in the labor force. I think the ease of getting student loans has also kept the number of people not in the labor force at high levels. If you are 35 and unemployed and can’t get SSDI or unemployment benefits a student loan will pay the bills.

Wages are being held down by low quality jobs and the gig economy. Its hard to get productivity gains in the service economy

How long can a nation exist when we are fed a diet of lies as far as the eye can see and corruption at the highest levels is endemic? Is there a market that is not rigged? Is there any economic data that is not manipulated? Is there any news from the MSM that is not fake? Is there a politician or corporate leader who is not corrupt? How long can these criminals hold it all together before it implodes? How is this all going to end…and when? What a fake world we live in…definitely one for the history books.

It also amazes me that wages are still the same as they were 20 years ago – maybe lower. Do you see real estate prices? REALLY? Clearly 24/7 MSM propaganda and subversion has twisted a lot of minds and made them seemingly incapable of rational and independent thought. Just remember that the MSM +government = Fake News writ large. Just go out on the street and talk to ordinary Americans who are living from paycheck to paycheck and still falling behind. As for buying an inflated home and raising a family, it has become a distant dream for most young Americans, at least in major cities.

Lots of us feel “better” even if the trajectory continues to spiral down,
because under O, every single day was a bummer. We have open ears
and are filtering all data hoping to hear something “hopeful.”

I am afraid we will end up in a fishbowl and pay a tax for each turn
around it. Internet of “things?” Terrible. We have to try to help
people wake up. Approach/avoidance = more avoidance than ever.
Those people call themselves optimists.

And Admin. tells us Trump has embraced the lies he railed about
during the campaign. It takes real chutzpah to call unemployment

everything.

I posted a list of 10 things I wanted Trump to do in the first 3 months of his presidency. One of those I thought would be a master stroke would be to immediately have the BLS ditch the current unemployment rate calculations and instead use Labor Force participation numbers.

The 3 biggest benefits would be: 1) honesty with the public about how many working age Americans really are unemployed……. 2) it would destroy the narrative that we had a “recovery” under Obama and ……..3) It would actually give him some room to show real progress if he could reduce 36% non-working Americans down significantly.

Alas, he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and the opposition he faces from the political establishment, MSM, deep state, intelligence agencies etc etc have him so tangled up with foolishness that a genius political move like that escaped him….. now he is blathering and bloviating just like his predecessor on these fake economic numbers.

So Jim,

Been an interesting day. I signed up for Twitter. You probably know that because you are my only follower. I think. I’m still trying to figure the damn thing out.

Anyways, I sign up for the Prime Minister’s feed this morning. One of the things he tweets is that unemployment is down. This is in the middle of an economy where the resource sector is depressed and is suffering from massive retail closures everywhere. Not just Sears but others too. In my sector the largest chain here is not Cabelas or Bass Pro (they are here though) it’s Wholesale Sports. They even owned a bunch of the Warehouse Sports stores in the US for a time. They just closed their doors last week. Caput. Done. There have been some big independents go down as well.

Anyways, the economy here, with the possible exception of housing in the Vancouver region is very sick. We all know it. So this moron tweets regarding this topic and I am guessing that of the 20 or so tweets that I read in response that close to half of them were this:

Yep, unemployment is down because employment insurance ran out for those who were on it. Great Job.

I think your work in this area (along with that of others) is slowly but surely working its way into the public’s consciousness. It makes me optimistic (there’s that word again). If people can see and understand the truth of something then it becomes easier to deal with it in a sane and rational manner. At some stage.

As for Trump, given the type of guy he is I think he’ll happily take credit for those numbers until A) he can’t or B) he realizes that telling the truth will suit his purpose better, whichever comes first assuming either do.

At any rate, you need to keep the pressure on these guys. He may be all we got right now but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t feel the heat.

Keep it up, my friend. You play your part, you make a difference.

I wouldn’t put too much credence in Trump having fun with the stats. Of course the leftists who make those stats are going to run unemployment down to nothing. It’s the only way you can justify open borders. We need workers. Watch what Trump does this year. A lot of it’s going to be based on cutting immigration and cutting welfare and pushing people back to work. Don’t think for a minute he’s fooled by anything. During the campaign he railed almost constantly about how fake those statistics are. If he believed them, he would fold on immigration. He won’t. And Francis, my heart is always warmed by hearing about a big box retailer go under. We need lots more of that.

starfcker
starfcker

January 6, 2018 11:39 am

Also, remember this, the numbers might be fake, but the psychology is real. Pushing people to do more than they think they’re capable of is one of the great skills of personnel management. I do it myself all the time. If a project is going to take three years, I tell everyone it’s going to take 18 months, because getting them to buy in for 3 years might be a lot tougher. So I save myself the trouble. I get the buy-in for 18 months, and 18 months later they see the progress that we’ve made, so it’s pretty easy to keep them right on track from there. Would have been a lot tougher to get them to buy in for 3 years in the beginning. Does that make me evil? Maybe, but I get a lot of shit done that way, as long as everyone’s better off in the end, trust me, they don’t complain.

Global debt of $ 233 Trillion is more than three times the level of one year of global GDP.
This is what happens when retail and investment banking is let loose on the world.
The very banking situation that led to the Great Depression is back with full force. TPTB will not deal with it. So the next downturn will be long and hideous, fueled by cascading amounts of defaulted debt.

MrLiberty

TPTB not deal with it??? THEY CREATED IT for their own benefit. And this is NOT a specific problem of retail and investment banking being turned loose, but is the DIRECT RESULT of the existence of the Federal Reserve, fractional reserve banking, legal tender laws, and government protection of the Fed. NONE of this would be possible in a system of HONEST banking (or at least the criminals would have already been stopped in their tracks by bank runs, bank failures, criminal charges, etc.).

I definitely think he under estimated the opposition he would encounter and to what extreme his opposition would resort to . The left needs a permanent victimized under class and sadly the wealthy investor class in this country overplayed there hand allowing steam for the lefts us and them mentality . President Trumps facing an up hill battle against experts in spin and lies . His original attempts to be cordial and make a deal especially with China and Russia can only benefit the American people in the long run scheme of things . Consequently the left will not allow it with out blood in the streets !

As always, good stats, Admin. Good post and sobering at the least.

I have yet to figure out how the US Government functions with BS stats. Must be two sets of books the Fed/Treasury keeps. One with “For Public Consumption” and the other secret one “For Government Use Only”.

I have just finished “Fire and Fury’ and there are two Muck’s minutes in finishing states.

i think I’ll open Muck’s Minutes to include my name and email address. I’d like some feedback from readers… Your thoughts?

The article states Trump wasn’t even President but as soon as he was the job market went crazy but President don’t have any influence. I completely disagree. If a business sees one candidate as horrid and one as better and the better wins they immediately start hiring. They were probably interviewing already and waiting on the outcome. Presidents done have any influence. I guess another peddled lie is that immediately the same day Trumps tax cuts were voted in multiple companies were giving hundreds of millions in raises and bonuses to their employees, southwest air, GE numerous companies. The author seems to not want to accept facts that Trump is getting shit done and people were truly sick of obummer and hated HITLERY AND THERE WAS PENT UP DEMAND WAITING FOR TRUMP. Investor sentiment matters as we have seen. When people feel good they buy stuff. When they are fearful of the future they don’t. We were in fear for 8 years now the snowflakes can live in fear for the next 8. I’m loving it!!

Greetings,
I have every reason to believe that Trump doesn’t care what the BLS has to say. Frankly, that the government even has something like the BLS rubs me the wrong way. In the same manner that there is a wall between Church & State, we need a total separation between Business & State. Neither one can be allowed to champion the other – period.

Let business worry about business and let Congress worry about our currency and give it enough power to at least see that the Navy is funded (a little more than 100 years ago, 20% of the federal budget went to the Navy).

Finally, anyone that cares to investigate knows that these numbers are fake in the same way we know the mall Santa is fake.

These sick fucking creatures don’t give two shits about about any of us sheep. They were willing to blow up a subway station full of people just to FUCKING DISTRACT the rest of us! These scumbags ARE the fucking terrorists (world wide) and we are the ones to be terrorized forever.

Trump is ten steps ahead of these fuckers at every turn. I doubt that means it’s going to be smooth sailing but I have a deep feeling that even the long time red-pilled among us are about to be amazed.

Trump has announced that at 5pm on Monday he is going to announce his fake msm media awards. Awards is surely a euphemism for something much more exciting. I suspect Monday will be pivotal….perhaps the end of the Calm and the beginning of the The Storm. I’ll bet the SOTU Speech is going to be a doosey!
