Is Baltimore America’s “Shithole”: Visualizing The Collapse Of An American City

The real ‘shitholes’ are democratically controlled cities across the United States that have let their inner cities deteriorate into a complete war-zone. This is not a new phenomenon but has been worsening for decades.

Baltimore ranks high on the “shithole” list for its widespread death and destruction. The city’s population hit a 100-year low in 2017, as residents are fleeing neighborhoods to escape the violent crime. The federal government stepped in last year at the request of the mayor to get the city under control. Intelligent agencies are circling above with light aircraft using optics and other spy-tech to monitor residents, meanwhile, a network of cameras on the city streets use facial recognition software to track citizen.

In 2014, the Ferguson effect aided in the 2015 Baltimore riots, when citizens from low-income areas ripped up their social contracts with the state and started looting local businesses. The National Guard was called in to close down the city with armed troops patrolling the streets.

After the riots, Baltimore residents and the entire world scrutinized the police force, which ultimately led to the fracturing in the relationship between the community and police. As requested by the residents, the police started to pull back from proactive policing, which left entire areas to fend for themselves. As police patrols decreased, inversely, violent crime surged to record highs.

Now, Baltimore’s homicide per capita is on par with Venezuela, a country that is suffering from an economic collapse in South America.

Combined with violent crime, the opioid crisis is adding fuel to the fire signaling that the most violent days are just ahead.

The Baltimore Sun says violent crime surged after 2015, precisely lining up with the popular theory called: the Ferguson effect. That year, homicides spiked 62 percent to 342, a level not seen since the crack epidemic of the late 1980s and 1990s. Further, the report labels 2015 as a pivotal year, when overall violent crime started to increase. Below, the Baltimore Sun shows three years before 2015 and three years after.

From 2012-2014, the city experienced a steady decline in violent crime. The narrative then was Under Armour’s gentrification of the area, but that all came to a screeching halt when the riots of 2015 sent the region into a panic.

According to the Baltimore Sun, “overall violent crime between these two time periods is up 9.8 percent. Most categories of violent crime either increased or stayed about the same, with the biggest percentage growths in homicides, shootings, and robberies.”

Homicides And Shootings

Homicides and shootings make up a small percentage of the overall violent crime, but saw the “highest percentage jumps from 2012-2014 to 2015-2017,” reported the Baltimore Sun.

From 2012-2014 to 2015-2017, low-income neighborhoods with abandoned homes saw a dramatic increase in homicides and shootings. All violent crime in the city is centralized to 12 impoverished communities, where education, health, and wealth inequalities are some of the widest in the United States.

Shootings and killings are now occurring earlier in the day.

Robberies

Robberies account for a majority of the violent crime increase over the time periods. The city saw 4,358 more thefts between 2015-2017. The most common of these are street robberies.

Street robberies in the downtown district, otherwise known as Baltimore’s tourism area outpace all neighborhoods. Crime networks have found that robbing tourist is the most lucrative way to make a living in Baltimore.

Carjackings in Baltimore have seen a significant percentage gain over the past three years.

Unbeknownst too many, carjackings in low-income areas have exploded in the 2015-2017 timeframe. The Baltimore Sun failed to label the energy behind this trend, but we might add, it could be due to subprime auto lending enabling low-income folks to buy new cars, and consequently, the vehicles are parked in lawless neighborhoods.

Commerical And Residential Robberies, 2012-2017

According to the Baltimore Sun, commercial robberies have increased by 59 percent between the two time periods. Since 2012, most business thefts occurred in the downturn area near major roads.

Firearms

The Baltimore Sun explained, “between 2015 and 2017, 25 percent of violent crimes were committed using firearms, up 8 percent compared to 2012-2014.” With that said, the increase in firearms could be contributing to an acceleration in violent crime.

Unfortunately, many Americans don’t have to look to Haiti to see President Trump’s “Shithole.”

Just take a drive to the nearest inner city, and you will be able to find a community that is rotting away.

It’s time the American people understand where the real “Shitholes” are before it’s too late. Take for instance Baltmore; it ranks fairly high on the “Shithole” list, as the city risks imploding on itself. Welcome to the United “Shitholes” of America.

The sad reality is: Whites turn bricks into cities, blacks turn cities into rubble.

No disrespect- I understand how important that is in some communities- but if people are uncomfortable with police presence and prefer not to snitch, then they can absorb the crime rates that are concomitant with that culture, n’est-ce pas.

Clearly they prefer a progressive Democratic leadership so they get a Democratic progressive culture.

Visiting my daughter in Maryland in 2012, we decided on a day trip to Baltimore. First it was finally nice to see Denver supplanted as the ugliest US big city I’d ever seen.

We had a nice walk and lunch in the Inner Harbor. We wandered about and I was patting my side for my weapon(which was back home in CO) within a block. Holy Shit, we had descended into a true shithole in just a matter of a minute.

Filth, thugs(knee grows)liquor stores in between the boarded up storefronts and man were we getting the eye.

We skedaddled ASAP.

I can easily imagine how it’s gotten worse.

Thanx for the downer; Mega-Corps offshored American jobs for executive bonuses. Baltimore will be the norm for inner cities – just a matter of time.

We should also thank the Supremes for the Citizen United decision – it is now legal to pay CONgress members to screw the country.

A slow death that most won’t recognize.

Outsourcing has another HUGE consequence (It was intentional). Former middle class lost middle class jobs and incomes. They have to rely on the government for incomes. When you depend on the government, it is impossible to demand freedom from it.

The (gigantic and evil) government does not like independent freedom-loving middle class at all.

I never imagined I’d ever countenance elitist driven population control. But I must admit Margaret Sanger’s description of “human weeds” has the ring of truth to it.

My friend from Columbia, Maryland, told me a horror story about their newest venture into business: slumlords.

With their son, they purchased a couple of rental properties in the area. One of their properties is in Baltimore “city” proper and, while it garners them the best dollars in Section 8 rent money, it also causes the most damage when there are problems.

To evict requires 90 days without rent payment, then another several weeks for the “process” during which the tenant can’t be harassed or bothered. After the “renter” who had actually paid no rent left and they went in to clean, they renovated the stripped and trashed apartment to a tune of almost $5000. Her son, a young entrepreneur with the energy to fight, took it to court. And WON!

She said they recouped $400 in six months and have agreed they will not do that again. She also said she completely understands now why they were able to buy that property at such a great deal and would sell it in a heartbeat at a loss to get the nightmare of Baltimore city management out of their lives and business.

Maggie section 8 is just welfare for landlords inticing them to invest in non performing properties with a gaurentee of higher rent extorted from taxpayers . Bad plan for everybody but the investor and the city because the property tax gets paid with your money wow what a deal

Exactly… So, when the guy actually works, the courts garnish a pittance from his wages. I suppose he won a ‘sense’ of justice.

That doesn’t buy much bread when you don’t have an ebt card.

I’ve had many rentals over the years, quite a few in less then desirable neighborhoods and I have never gone Sec 8. Would never consider it.

Decades of democratic rule coupled with the collapse of industry and the higher paying jobs and you have the perfect mix for a shithole .
Now to truly fix Baltimore City you must kill it and then rebuild . Maryland is a state with strong democratic control and the signs are everywhere . Yes , we have a Republican Governor now but that’s just because the O’Malley administration fucked things up so bad even government employees and welfare reciepiants crossed party lines but even he is a bit of a RINO ! To win statewide office you only need 3 counties and Baltimore City and the rest can go to hell and usually do ! The jurisdictions that swing all the elections have 3 things in common 1) highest population of blacks 2) highest population of government employees 3)highest number of welfare recipients ! The state would benefit greatly with an electoral college at least then the other 3/4 of the states voices would be heard a bit louder and Baltimore City would be cut off at the money spigot !

“Now to truly fix Baltimore City you must kill it and then rebuild.”

Reminds me of Detroit and the Model Cities project; btw, that project has already been rehabbed in early 90’s and should be about time for it to be rehabbed again for Billions.

Rebuilding will not cure the disease.

“Rebuilding will not cure the disease.”

Agree. It is highly unlikely to reindustrilize Baltimore because many people there are lazy and have no skills (except for murder and robery).

The coming (Greatest) depression and the associated starvation will do the fine job.

WHAT?! I have NOT yet seen ANY comment about the most PUTRID ‘s-hole’ in the world: the “D[e]C[eit] Turd-Pond”.
Referencing Baltimore, respectfully suggest commenters check out “thezman.com” who refers to said as “Lagos on the Chesapeake”. Very intelligent, rational, informed and “cool cat”.

Just another example of the de facto race war that afros have been committing against the non blacks in this country, for the last half century. Those living in cupcake land, outside the consequences, come out with their pathologically naive excuse making liberal/libertarian fantasies of: if we just followed their respective political prescriptions, it will one day solve itself. For those of us who lived it in the inner city, we know better.

Eventually Detroit/Camden/Baltimore will become so common that all of this nation will become just another failed state like Venezuela. And if the afros are so incorrigible now when we give them everything, wait to you see how they act when we can give them nothing (can anyone say afro initiated race war?).

Many are afraid to face this unwanted conclusion, so look to desperately blame anything else in order to not face the reality of where our current situation is heading. For the rest of us non black inner city dwellers, whose empirical experiences well versed us in racial realism, we know exactly where this is heading (it is only the future timeline that we are unsure of).

Nice trick from the author. Democrats basically control all urban areas around the country due to social demographics. There are plenty of shit holes in the rural America controlled by Republicans that are actually more like Third World countries.
