WHO’S NOT WORKING

Very interesting breakdown of our working and non-working population. If you back out those under 16 and over 64 years old, you get 234 million working age Americans. According to the BLS, only 7 million of these people are unemployed, even though only 153 million are actually working.

Do you believe 10% of the working age population is really disabled and unable to work? What a crock of shit. Why are 46 million Americans between 16 and 64 not working? That’s 20% of the working age population. How can you not classify them as unemployed? Any critical thinking person knows the real unemployment rate isn’t 4%. It is north of 20%. But, let’s keep believing Trump, the government drones, and the corporate media. It makes us feel better. The American Dream – because you’d have to be asleep to believe it.

They are lazy people on welfare who do not want to work. When you have a system that pays people to sit on their butts and do nothing, what do you expect? To be considered unemployed, they have to have the desire to BE employed. So, the unemployment rate is calculated on those who are able AND desirous of being employed.

There are lots of employed people sitting on their butts and not producing anything.

“Let’s begin with the big picture. In any human society, whether it’s a tribe of hunter-gatherers, an industrial nation-state, or anything else, people apply energy to raw materials to produce goods and services; this is what we mean by the word “economy.” The goods and services that any economy can produce are strictly limited by the energy sources and raw materials that it can access. ”

I totally agree with you but where was your argument when Obama produced his fantasy statistics. The country is not in good shape and much of what is fed to us borders on fraudulent information coopted by them messenger that has kept just enough truth in it to call it a statistic instead of a scam.

Doesn’t that mean 81 million aren’t working? But below you say only 46 million aren’t working. Don’t kick my ass please, I’m just checking my maff skills.

Wholeheartedly agree regarding the Double Standard, (That Trump Himself is now applying to the U-6), but I find myself FAR more appalled at his 180 regarding The Market and The Fed…… It’s ALL His now. If he’d kept hammering on The Fed and the “Fake” Market, he might have had a little Plausible Deniability when it all crashes down. Now he claims it’s all about HIM, and he’s gonna Pay The Price for it. Unfortunately for us Normals, we too are going to pay, as there will be another Clean Sweep of Dems swept into office, and The Almighty only knows how they’ll go about further sodomizing us…..

My thinking is a lot of the 46 million are in the ‘children economy’.
Welfare mom has children by different men and receives enough welfare for a household. The respective fathers are not on welfare but live with the various mothers of their children on a rotating basis. He supplements his and their incomes in the underground economy legal and illegal. Look at any news report of an police incident and siblings often have different last names. The underclass is quite resourceful and view welfare as a base income to supplement the hunter gatherer aspects of the man. These fathers never show up in the labor stats.

The government(s) have made it uneconomical to be lawful.
I “grossed” about $75k last year, between consulting and part-time employment. My wife put 20% aside in an account for taxes; we were able to use part of that to buy a used car, with a loan for $6k for the balance. We sent $8k in as estimated taxes. Minor withholding was done in the part-time job, less than $250 overall.
TurboTax said we owed so much for ObamaDontCare premiums after subsidies, not much different from what we thought. The kicker was our state tax suddenly went up to $2500. After we took the estimated refund and what was left in the 20% account, we were approximately even, a couple hundred dollars off.
We didn’t gain much in savings last year, despite getting more income than usual and putting the 20% aside. The main factor was having to replace two extremely aged cars with newer, used cars and paying $1100 a month more in car payments, hopefully to expire in two years or so. Meanwhile, between ObamaDontCare and state taxes, anything over our minimum earnings to pay bills was eaten up.
I can see why so many people have side gigs that go unreported; it seems like the laws are written to ensure you stay poor if at all possible. Meanwhile, idiots print $20T more dollars, waste $1.5 T per year and complain that we aren’t paying our fair share!
Let them eat lead; I’m tired of paying for other people’s idiocy, ideology and mistakes.

What is the total combined cost of welfare at the federal, state and local level. If you assume that each person unemployed, not working or on disability is paid about $20,000 per year, we are looking at a cost of over $1.5 trillion per year which is astounding. How long can this continue before the entire rotten system implodes?

I have been thinking about moving and it seems like there are a fair amount of jobs everywhere. People who can pass drug tests and who want to work? Not so much.
I also have gotten tired of the unemployment numbers that say people are employed when they stop receiving unemployment. I would bet the real number is much higher than what the gov. says.
Those jobs I mentioned, They don’t pay much. The work is hard. I don’t think this flies with many. I will end up with one of this kind of jobs. I can make it because I have no debt.

It will continue until the USA becomes another Venezuela where the people just collected a monthly government check; now everything costs more than they can afford and they wait for the government to solve their problems or flee to a Capitalist country.

Thanks, Admin.

As many have mentioned, it is absolutely that welfare is the cause. Pay people not to work, and they do not. Plus it kills family structures, etc.

Can you imagine the economic boom if even half the non-workers were working? GDP would leap by a third or more.

I manage several rentals in a poor region of tidewater Virginia. One is rented by a guy who gets a disability check and Section 8 housing assistance. He spent 3 years working with a lawyer and a doctor to build a history of mental issues and medication use. He qualified for disability about 4 years ago. Doc. got paid. Lawyer got paid. He got paid. Rent got paid. Another unit is rented by his niece who worked the same scam in high school. She qualified for her”crazy check” at age 19. Set for life. I know both of these people pretty well. They could work, but, don’t want to. Others have said it well. We provide incentives for people not to work. People respond to incentives. China provides another type of incentive that is powerful…….No work=No eat.

JQ, how would you count a stay at home mother? Is she employed or not? My wife does not work outside the home and she is not looking for work. I wouldn’t count her as unemployed exactly. I don’t know what percentage of the able bodied non-working people are in a similar situation, but I can sort of see why the government chooses to not count people who do not want a job as unemployed. Single income households are no longer the norm since they went away because of the two headed monster of inflation and women’s lib. that at first made it seem like there were new and exciting possibilities if they wanted them for the fairer sex, but then over the next several decades the larger pool of labor coupled with persistent inflation resulted in essentially forcing them to work just to try to keep up with where families were 50 years ago, but now with two wage earners instead of just one.

I’m not disputing the phoniness of the government propaganda, just mentioning that not every working age adult without a job is not on disability or unemployment. Some truly are just not in the workforce. No idea what that number is though.
