The Great Firewall Of China – Government Bans Orwell’s Animal Farm & The Letter ‘N’

The Chinese government has banned George Orwell’s dystopian satirical novella Animal Farm and the letter ‘N’ in a wide-ranging online censorship crackdown.

As Mike Krieger has recently noted (here and here), what China is doing is dangerous:

Narrative is particularly important to lunatics who run a global empire, and the U.S. media’s almost always happy to oblige. For example, the media’s enthusiasm to swallow government propaganda is what led to the Iraq war disaster, in addition to so many other societal tragedies I write about here on a daily basis. While the marriage between U.S. government propaganda and a complicit corporate media has been a demonstrable danger to the world, we shouldn’t for a moment think American propaganda is the only threat. Other powerful governments use it as well, and China is no exception.

With Russia obsession dominating almost every domestic media headline these days, Americans are woefully ignorant regarding the explicit intentions the Chinese government has for the world.

And as The Independent reports, experts believe the increased levels of suppression – which come just days after the Chinese Communist Party announced presidential term limits would be abolished – are a sign Xi Jinping hopes to become a dictator for life.

The China Digital Times, a California-based site covering China, reports a list of terms excised from Chinese websites by government censors includes the letter ‘N’, Orwell’s novels Animal Farm and 1984, and the phrase ‘Xi Zedong’.

The latter is a combination of President Xi and former chairman Mao Zedong’s names.

It was not immediately obvious why the ostensibly harmless letter ‘N’ had been banned, but some speculated it may either be being used or interpreted as a sign of dissent.

This censorship is fortified by the Great Firewall of China – a term which refers to the combined force of technological and legislative measures which tightly control the internet on the mainland.

Why should you care about China’s seemingly totalitarian shift? Krieger concludes poignantly:

The reason is because a major shift in the polices of the second largest economy in the world, populated with over a billion people and run by leadership intent on establishing a far more dominant position on the world scale militarily and politically, will affect everyone.

I don’t see what the fuss is over. Clearly the best form of government is a wise king.

Hollywood Rob

China sees that the Rothschilds intend to retaliate for the renminbi and BRICs. They know social media is assisting the government to destabilize them and control the people here as well. They are closing the channels for spying and CIA ops to retaliate against them. Elections are a problem when you have an enemy like the CIA. It will encourage coup attempts and the making out of “oppressed” opposition. In Truth, there were NEVER any “Free Elections” in China. There is ONLY THE COMMUNIST PARTY after all. China is simply preventing retaliation it expects from the Petrodollar people and their minions.

Zarathustra

The communist ideology died with Mao. What I see is the party transforming itself into a modern interpretation of its historic monarchy. China has proven that a modern economy does not by definition need be accompanied by “democracy” and that the lack of republican institutions does not necessarily imply that you can’t have generally uncorrupt and efficient administration of laws.

But wait! An insightful commentator said that after observing the west, the ChiCom thugs in charge traded in their machine guns for a FED printing press! Works way better if they don’t think they’re slaves. “Meet the new boss …”

And I thought the Chinese had the second highest IQ in the world.

They appear to think that by controlling everything – social JustUs brownie points on one hand and prison slave camp on the other – they can set up an eternal world empire. And the West’s Holy Oligarchical Collectivist Empire states that the ChiCom society is the model for their Eternal Empire too? Have none of them read Atlas Shrugged? Anthem?

Not ironically, Anthem IS the long game of their empire. I wonder if the rulers have their own Homes For The Useless at age 40? Or a 9mm to the back of the head.

Zarathustra

In Atlas Shrugged, all the corrupt bureaucrats and crony industrialists nursed a furtive self-loathing.
The Chicoms aren’t like that at all. They think they’re superior to everyone else. They may envy our stuff, but they don’t envy foreign devils. Not at all.

China doesn’t want a world empire, that’s the difference with the US. China will always be China , when in the entire history of China stretching back 5000 years or more were they a democratic liberal society. They always had a powerful elite that controlled but they always believed in China and that Chinese are a special people. The rulers of China don’t want to replace their people with Africans or other third world people’s. The Chinese think differently than westerners. Don’t put so called western values on China , because they are Chinese not Americans,British French Germans etc.

Holding up examples of foreign tyrannies is a hollow distraction from the truth that the US is truly NO BETTER. China never pretended to be “free,” while the lies of American freedom are beaten into children from their first day in school. If you think that all the YouTube, Google, Twitter, etc. censorship is coming from independent decision-makers, then you haven’t been paying close enough attention to the folks who have been pulling the strings since at least 1913 and likely well before that….all while everyone is told how “free” we all are.
