Illegal immigration across the southwest border surged 200 percent in March compared to the same month last year, according to Homeland Security statistics released late Wednesday that back up White House’s claims that things are quickly deteriorating on the border.
The year-over-year surge is by far the largest in the records, which date back to 2011, and it could be a signal that the Senate’s debate on legalizing illegal immigrants earlier this year has sparked a new wave of migration.
The Border Patrol and officers at the ports of entry nabbed 50,308 people in March — up from less than 37,000 in February, and three times the 16,588 people apprehended in March 2017, when President Trump’s tough enforcement talk had sparked a major drop in illegal immigration attempts.

That drop only lasted a few months and since last summer the numbers have been steadily increasing again, reaching back to levels not seen since the middle of the illegal immigration surge during the Obama administration.
The numbers were released just as Mr. Trump was signing an order deploying National Guard troops to the southwest border to assist in enforcement. The government couldn’t yet say how many troops were being sent, what their duties would be, nor how much it would cost — though Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said they could be deployed as early as Wednesday night.
According to the new numbers, the Border Patrol caught 37,393 illegal immigrants in March. Customs and Border Protection Officers, who man the ports of entry, encountered another 12,915 people who showed up without permission to enter.
Those numbers are considered a rough yardstick for the overall flow of illegal traffic, so increases in the number of people caught signals an increase in overall illegal immigration.
Analysts say that migration is seasonal, so comparisons to the same time in previous years gives the best sense for where things are headed.
Particularly troubling for officials was a major jump in the number of illegal immigrants traveling as families. Nearly 9,000 were nabbed by the Border Patrol and another 5,100 were stopped at ports of entry. By contrast, in March 2017 the Border Patrol caught just 1,125 immigrants traveling as families, and the officers at the ports of entry stopped just 768.

First off, He never should have allowed federal liberal activist judges to stop him from implementing immigration reforms that are a national security issue. He doesn’t have to listen to them. @Admin: Yes, the border is very long, but most of it, at least in Texas is like the surface of the Moon. There are dead bodies recovered along our border all the time. The vast majority of crossings are in Rio Grande, Tuscon and San Diego. This is where the wall and troops should be focused.

The problem with “just enforce the existing law” as a strategy is that clearly neither party wants to do that – as evidenced by the last 55 years’ history. That’s why Trump was elected – to accomplish the One Big Thing that the entire political establishment doesn’t want done. If there were a 30 foot wall from the Pacific to the Gulf even an Obama or President Kamala Harris wouldn’t have the chutzpah to tear it down. The open borders crowd doesn’t oppose the wall because of the cost (nobody cares about the cost of anything). They’re not afraid that it won’t work – they’re afraid that it will. All of the other things we should do – E-Verify, penalize employers of illegals, cut off welfare, etc. are necessary, but not sufficient, and bringing them up as something to do INSTEAD of the wall is counter-productive and, frankly, stupid. Do both. Do all.
“Wall” doesn’t mean a reversible assigning of troops to the border.

I think its way too early to blame trump for the trade deficit. That’s been built into the cake for a very long time. Perhaps he could do more, at this point he has done mostly sable rattling. Although the tariffs are what folks have called for toward trying to have “fair trade” although that isn’t going to be a smooth ride either. In terms of the wall, Trump has mostly been full of bluster. He definitely didn’t try all that hard and rolled multiple times in the past year where he could have perhaps forced concession for funding. The problem is WAY bigger than Trump, it seems like half the republicans want illegal immigration and the Democrats view foreigners are their main path to power as they work toward their communist utopia. I suppose the national guard is Trump’s late attempt to provide some bullshit cover for spending a year being weak on pushing his Wall agenda.
I for one wasn’t expecting a massive amount from Trump, mostly that he wasn’t Hitlary and that a few good things would be thrown into the final act of the Titanic. A couple Supremes to keep tyranny-light slowed down a bit. I expected more from him that his weak rhetoric on the 2nd ammendment. But I suppose again I am mostly just glad he isn’t Hitlery. Trump has a long history of changing positions and being a bit of a narcissistic bullshit artist, likely why he fits well enough with the ruling class who seem addicted to lying to the peasants.

I said that if they built the wall 5 feet high instead of 50 feet high, they could use the extra cement to build 4 more walls 1 mile apart.
Instead of a one and done, it would turn into a daunting series of walls. It’s actually quite brilliant, if you think about it; the BP can use the lanes as a highway. Of course, that is if the terrain is actually level, some of the same reasons illegals end up injured or dead or left for dead after they break a leg is that the desert has treacherous ravines, gullies, boulders and other obstacles that would require a flashlight where one can’t be used.
A wall would save lives, I can’t say it will deter anybody. The marchers said they were heading to the border to turn themselves in as asylees.
