What You Should Know About The Central American Caravan

Guest Post by Joe Guzzardi

Weeks ago, a 1,500-strong caravan of Central American migrants headed north. Along the way, partly in reaction to President Trump’s decision to send the National Guard to the border, the group splintered. But a small handful proceeded to Tijuana where they hope to begin the asylum process. According to Juventud 2000, hundreds more asylum seekers are on the way. But, earlier this week, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen pledged that border jumpers would be prosecuted, and that she would order legal teams to the Southwest to adjudicate amnesty claims on the spot.

Asylum is a two-fold problem. First, the existing asylum process is particularly vulnerable to fraud. A New York Times story, “Asylum Fraud in Chinatown: An Industry of Lies,” provided the details of commonly used, but deceitful techniques. And in Queens, N.Y., an immigration lawyer pleaded guilty to essentially cutting and pasting identical false statements into his clients’ amnesty applications. Second, Congress has done nothing to restore integrity to the flawed process.

As with most immigration complications, amnesty fraud could be minimized by enforcing existing law. According to countless media reports, Central American families and unaccompanied minors qualify for amnesty pursuant to the 2008 Trafficking Victims Reauthorization Act. The very wording of the act’s name, “trafficking victims,” implies that many amnesty seekers don’t qualify. The caravan was organized by the San Diego-based, pro-immigration Juventud 2000. Central Americans who boarded the caravan did so voluntarily, and were not in any way trafficked, a crime that involves coercion and is normally associated with bringing minors to the U.S. for sex slavery.

Moreover, even a credible fear defense may not reach amnesty’s qualifying level. The Migration Policy Institute, an immigration advocacy organization, concluded that “being forced to join a gang or experiencing violence do not generally qualify as a basis for refugee status [amnesty] or fall readily into one of the refugee definition categories.”

Asylum seekers are skilled in gaming the U.S.’s toothless amnesty loopholes. Once across the U.S./Mexico border, they turn themselves in to an immigration official, request asylum and then disappear into the interior. With the backlog already at 300,000, new petitions hurt asylum seekers already in the U.S. whose cases have been pending for years.

A humane option for Central American asylum seekers is to take refuge in a safe third country, possibly permanently but at a minimum while their application is reviewed. Along their way north, the Central Americans pass through Mexico, a democracy that offers migrants a healthy economy and a mutually shared language. The safe third country option helps weed out fraud. If an individual is truly fleeing fear of persecution, the most common claim asylum petitioners make, the first port in the storm should suffice.

But U.S. asylum process, although convoluted and tedious, is ultimately more rewarding both for the applicant and his extended family than staying in Mexico. If 150 days pass without a decision on an asylum request, the petitioner can apply for employment authorization. The successful petitioner can also bring his spouse and minor children to the U.S., and after a year, file for permanent residency which initiates chain migration. In the end, amnesty’s long-term effects include a looser labor market, higher population and increased pressure on social services like education and health care.

A compassionate but prudent approach to asylum that honors valid claims, but denies fraudulent appeals, best serves Americans’ interests.

I don’t have to know nuttin’ ’bout these subhumans. They want a free ride, a caravan of squatters, illiterates, low skilled, not English speaking, criminals, low life’s, disease infested… I’m sure you all can find more adjectives.

I say hold these ‘beaners’ at the border – attn National Guard: Use rubber bullets, tear gas, whatever.

What about compassion for white folk? We need immigrants like another hole in our heads. Take one immigrant in and the breeding begins until the brown ones swamp the white ones. The whole immigration thing needs to be stopped cold with few exceptions for special cases, which would be in the hundreds not hundreds of thousands. But such a wish is just dust in the wind to our superiors.

We have no use for the ones we have here now. Closing the border is a good start, but we must deport the ones that are already here, too.

So why aren’t they seeking asylum in Mexico where they would be far more in tune with the prevailing culture and language and easily integrate into it?

Because Mexico is as much of a shit hole as where they’re coming from. Besides Mexico pays no welfare benefits.

Why are only 5 foot nothing brown people working in all phases of construction in America ? Don’t give me that hard worker bull shit . Americans can and will do the jobs but not for chump change , the fact is illegal crimanils enter our country falsify documents and an employer gets a pass to pay shit wages to an illegal . This happens nationwide every day and it is bankrupting working American people and their families daily . Our governments cannot find 11 to 20 MILLON people here illegally but they can find every street kid with a bag of pot to sell and lock them up . Nice going taxpayer funded minions hope you are not counting on a government pension , those overpaid American construction workers have been on unemployment and now are scraping by and there is nothing left to make up your short fall !

Mr Boat Guy,

I don’t know where you are located but I will relay to you my first hand construction experience of employing workers. First off wage scale is from 17.00 to 30.00 dollars and hour, mandatory overtime, per diem, 401k match, health and life insurance. We work in the mid west in agriculture, iron workers and millwights. We are on the road from Texas to Nebraska, Colorado to Kentucky. 10 days on, 4 days off. I would hire white Americans if any would show up every day and work the 10 hours they hired on to. But they won’t. Plus here in the mid west meth is a scourge in the white population, and 90 percent do not have a drivers license, and their parole officer or ex wife are continually looking for them. What i can say for the little 5 foot nothings is they show up and work, every fucking day. There is a severe labor problem in the US today. To many lazy entitled people thinking they are entitled to receive a pay check for little or no output. Fuck them. During the depression people appreciated the work, even in the 80’s jobs were hard to get and people gladly did above and over to keep them. Not now, but I am thinking all that is going to change here shortly.

17 to 30 bucks per hour is not much these days and only desperate people will work for that and they will stab you in the back when opportunity arrives ! Your retirement and benefits sounds fine coupled with wage it’s just rare in America today . Perhaps you need to hang out in better areas looking for good American citizens . We have great young people in America we are just over run with cheap labor thanks to a total deliberate failure of government on both sides of the political coin . Remember half of hourly wages are eaten up in direct and indirect taxes and most 401k plans are really bull shit in the long term . The employee takes all the risk any lose for 30% of real gains

Bacon Lover- I’ve worked in all phases of the construction industry for nearly 30 yrs. in the central plains, and the only time I even came close to the kind of wages you cite was on the east coast, and NO BENEFITS !! After clearing a six month background check, drug test, and40 hours of extensive computer in class training on confined space entry, hazardous materials, fall protection etc.,which you pass or you go home with no pay for the week and no job. We rec’d per diem, worked 6 twelve hour days and were only on one site for about 2-4 months, then the process started again. I’ve been on job sites with the brown people, and they are no better than the white people (rarely have there been more than just a few blacks, except in Surry, Va. and they were all union plant workers).

The 5 foot nothings were the ones that brought the meth you CLAIM only effects the white workers.

The international company my wife has been employed with for over 30 yrs. has repeatedly found 2, 3, and even as many as 4 of the ‘5 foot nothings’ using the same damn ID badge were the ones working the 3 two, two 3 mandatory 12 hours production schedule with ‘voluntary’ overtime.
Moving from one company to another in the construction biz, most require extensive resumes requiring an accountability for every part of your history, i.e. past employers, supervisor name and phone number, layoff periods, unemployed periods, education, past experience details, submitted to the black hole of the internet. You can’t tell me the third world shitholers have the experience, paper trail, and initial road money without the U.S. government help, and you traitors- for- the- dollar pricks looking the other way!

Boatguy- “17 to 30 bucks per hour is not much these days and only desperate people will work for that and they will stab you in the back when opportunity arrives !”

I have driven 50-60 miles one way for temporary construction jobs (that offer no per diem) for $13-15 per hour !! From metal/wood stud framing, drywall hang/finish, providing your own tools (drills, saws, bits, etc.)

I enjoy reading this site, but I thought I was swimmin’ in a pond with a much higher level of fish. Bass and crappie instead of the drum, perch, and bottom feedin’ cat.

Low wage is the result of illegals flooding the labor market . The fact that working people are now forced to accept the shit sandwhich offered by corrupt employers is abusive labor practice at its finest . Democrats like illegals for future victim class voters and republicans like the illegals for the cheap labor that allows the crony capitalists to donate mor money to their campaigns to continue fleecing the system designed and built for the benefit of a few at the cost of the many . Do the math when offered that $15 bucks per hour the fact you must accept it does not make you the problem . Remember most American families can’t cough $400 bucks in an emergency , that’s not because of the great pay for skilled working people or that they are all alcoholic meth heads . The system has broken down for average working people and it is the government representitives past and present at fault along with complacent or lazy apathetic no voters

My Mother worked at a hotel in North Dakota that was filled with Mexicans on H1 Visas brought here by the construction company. None of them spoke a lick of English. Jobs Americans won’t do my ASS.

Saw a pic of a young (14 yo) Polish immigrant working in the Philly Steel works operating a metal lathe circa 1946. Do you think he took some American’s job? Employers don’t care about your entitlements, they want cheap labor; hard work for little pay gets the job.

On the one hand, you got bitches wanting the same pay as that guy busting his ass. Then you got blacks wanting free shit because they tired of picking cotton. Pedro and his compadres say they’ll bust their ass for your measly $25 or $50 bucks an hour building houses, no SS or healthcare required. What a bargain. You make mucho dinero and go home to fuck the old lady or you hire legal workers, make poco dinero and go home and fuck the dog. Your pick.

Armageddon hits.
Sinners and evil souls wander the planet.
Poets and Angels rise to Heaven, soon overcrowded.

Friday night, St. Peter is closing the pearly gates, when 2 more come wandering up.
Pete says: “I’m tired, and taking the weekend off. Sorry boys.
We got plenty of Angels, but need 1 more Poet. Last spot left.
Tell you what. Go back down to Hell on Earth for 2 days.
Do something, and come back Monday morning.
Whoever has a better poem will be granted Eternity.”

One asks: “Wait. What kinda poem? About what?”
Pete: “I don’t know. I’m tired. Uhm, …make it end in ‘Timbuktu’.
See yas next week.”

Monday morning comes. Both guys are there, when St. Peter arrives for duty.
“Well fellas, who’s first?”

Omar steps forward, clears his throat and recites:
“Saw the desert; felt the sand. Saw a lengthy caravan.
Walked the camels, two by two; Destination: Timbuktu”

BIG smile across Pete’s face. To the other dude, he says: “Well, whataya got?”

Darnell stifles a belch, leans in with bloodshot eyes, and mumbles:
“Uhh…Me and Tim, a-camping went. Saw three bitches in a tent.
Smoked some weed, drank some brew; I buck one, an’ Tim buck TWO.”
