A Majority Of Millennials Blame Baby Boomers For Destroying Their LIves

Millennials, the largest and most significant generation for the US labor market, came of age in the era of broken central bank policies, leading to the greatest wealth, income and inequality gap in recent history. While baby boomers promised millennials the world through (expensive) college degrees, this generation discovered that massive student loans coupled with a deteriorating work environment had turned them into permanent debt and rent slaves.

And now, according to a new Axios/Survey Monkey poll, millennials are getting angry, and starting to point fingers and cast blame, with a majority accusing baby boomers of not just making things difficult for them, but, of “ruining their lives.”

The survey found 51% of millennials (18 to 34-year-olds) blame baby boomers (51 to 69-year-olds) for making a raft of poor decisions since the 1980s, that have contributed to a weak political and economic environment; only 13% said the boomers made things better. Gen Xers was not satisfied with the pesky boomers, either; as 42% of them have blamed their life’s troubles on the boomers. Most amusingly, upon self-reflection, 30% of boomers agreed that their generation’s policies had made things worse, while only 32% said they had made it better, and 34% answered it made no difference.

This new Axios/SurveyMonkey online poll was conducted April 9-13 among 4,638 adults in the United States. The modeled error estimate is 2 percentage points. Data have been weighted for age, race, sex, education, and geography using the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey to reflect the demographic composition of the United States age 18 and over. Crosstabs available here. (Chart: Axios Visuals)

When asked on how to improve today’s economic and political environment, millennials had several modest proposals:

  • “Remove all old government officials and term limits for the House and Congress,” a 34-year-old male Republican said.
  • A number said “Impeach Trump” and “vote.”
  • “Sleep more because you will be less sensitive to negative emotions,” said a 22-year-old female Democrat.
  • Axios also said millennials have little confidence in their fiscal responsibility than boomers: 56 percent of millennials said they are “extremely” or “very” efficient in wealth preservation techniques, compared with 80 percent of those over 70-years old.

While the economy has entered its late-cycle phase, the dangerous rift is growing between the millennials and boomers, each wrestling for a smaller pool of jobs and shrinking government handouts. The intergenerational conflict will only escalate due to the historic accumulation of debt, and unprecedented shifts in demographics and automation, which will only accelerate into the 2020s.

But the punchline is that if Millennials loathe Boomers now when the economy is still doing relatively well thanks to a decade of central planning and trillions in liquidity, one can only imagine how delighted they will be when the next recession, or rather depression, hits.

Might not be accurate, but generations and the years they were born
Boomers: ’43-’60
X: ’61-’81
Millennials: ’82-’04
Zyklon: ’05-present

The danger posed, is if the Millennial ranks get elected, and push to change current rules about how boomers remain eligible for social policies, bennies, etc.
SS and Medicare are prime examples of a shrinking pie, with growing poole of applicants.

Not all millennials are scatterbrains. I know a handful making good wages, in lucrative careers.

But their ‘problem children’ have a bitter, victim mentality and poor financial skills.

Old school (boomer and Greatest Generation) ideologies of thrift, savings, and understanding of ‘wants’ vs. ‘needs’ is lost on a good many millennials.

They can’t seem to deny themselves, with discipline, all the modern gadgets of the day and expensive, trendy, habitual pleasures they prefer.
Have boomer and Gen-X parents spoiled them, in the quest to give them all the finer things?

Those $6 lattes start to add up, depleting disposable income.

Heard a quote once.
The economically struggling spend money they don’t have, on things they don’t need, trying to impress people that do not matter.

Reaping what they sow, the wiser ones wake up to the bind they find themselves in, and learn that they need to pull back the reigns on their champagne lifestyle, because they only have a beer income.

The lower IQ ones don’t have that realization, but they’re in for a rude awakening, when the shit hits the fan, and it eventually will.
Then, things will get ugly fast. Boomers may be targeted.
“You got lots of stuff, and I need some of it. Gimme.” seems to be a common mindset.

Like all younger gen’s that are lost at times navigating the financial problems they face,
scant few are smart enough to think that the elders have been there; done that, and might be
able to offer advice about finding solutions to their dilemmas.
Never grasping that the old timers were in a similar situation in their early years, but have worked and
earned what they have.
Most successful people have earned their rewards. Not all, but most.

Violence might commence.
Plan accordingly.

Suds,
I agree with the generational years you put forth, but disagree with almost everything else.

The ‘Boomer’ generation was spoiled rotten by their parents, being a direct result of the amount of loss and heartache that the ‘Greatest” generation had to deal with following the Great Depression and WWII. ‘Boomer’s’ are the very definition of the ‘me generation’. Most Boomers barely showed up as parents, and when they did it was more a ‘best friend’ than a parent. Boombers then went ahead and rigged all of the social programs setup by the ‘Greatest’ generation for their own benefit because….well, they deserved it.

Boomers suck the oxygen out of everything they touch, leaving nothing behind for the generations that follow. Yours will be the first generation to leave LESS, MUCH LESS to the next generations than you inherited. You inherited a country rich in culture, resources and infrastructure, you leave behind a wasted dying husk.

Struck a nerve?

Never lived in ‘mommy’s basement’. Emancipated at 16, bought my first car (’76 Corvette Stingray) with cash, own property in 4 states (all but one paid off), never received a dime from my parents, and never been on public assistance of any kind. Ever.

How many Boomers here will be handing down to their children more than they received from their parents? What will the Boomer generation be passing down to the next generation? Other than broken down roads, failing/aging infrastructure, busted economy, lots of regulation and laws that make everyone a criminal, maybe even full blown censorship and gun confiscation unless all of the Boomer politicians happen to up and die off first. What did you grow? DEBT. Thanks a lot. Luv ya’, mean it. ;P

For the record, I’m not a Millenial. I’d be willing to bet that was the assumption.

Struck a nerve? Nah! Just being a my normal wise ass self.

Yes, I did assume you are a Milly.

Let’s talk briefly about the gist of the article — millies blaming boomers. Blaming others is bad. Very bad. Very very very bad. Kneegrows love to blame a lot. Where does it get them? Nowhere. OK, maybe Boomers are fuktards. But millies better wake the fuck up if they think playing the blame game will help them in any way, shape, or form.

Admitting and confronting a problem is the first step in fixing it. I have a much lower opinion of the Gen-Xr’s, of which I would be classified as one. My only hope is in the Millenials and upcoming Silents/Gen-Z. Gen-Xr’s have proven themselves to be hopeless. 🙂 If millenials and Gen-Z don’t step up then we may very well be ‘lost’, maybe we already are. Then again the ‘Greatest’ generation wasn’t so great until they stood up and faced down the challenges that they were presented with. Either way, concerning Millenials, I have a stinking suspicion that we’ll soon find out what they’re truly made of.

Millennials, as largely Libtard/Collectivists haven’t a clue about consequences, but they sure know how to play the victim card.

As we enter the last half of this Fourth Turning, we can expect the hatred of class warfare and generational warfare to intensify. Unfortunately, I don’t have much sympathy for the young and their self-inflicted agony nor do I think they have any chance of beating the boomers. As O’Rourke said, “age and guile beat youth, innocence and a bad haircut.”

And, it won’t get any better because the economic collapse began long ago and will continue for a painfully long time.

Hey, look at the bright side. “In the end what will happen will be what has happened whenever a civilization breaks up. The people who have brains and courage come through and the ones who haven’t are winnowed out. At least, it has been interesting, if not comfortable, to witness a Gotterdammerung.” Ashley Wilkes, Gone With The Wind

On the plus side, boomers created PC’s, Smart phones, music so fucking awesome it is still being copied today and made it socially acceptable to be casual (Don’t have to wear a suit and tie? Thank a boomer).

On the negative side, Bill Clinton, Algore, Felonia Milhous Von Pantsuit and George W. Bush. I could toss in Emperor Obama, but he’s in Admin’s generation…at least by his definition.
I’ll call it even.

Boomers are ruining the lives of Millennials, that’s rich. Hey Millennials, maybe if you got off your asses in the coffeeshops and took responsibility for your lives, things would work out better for you.

Or maybe, you should sleep more so you will be less sensitive to negative emotions.

Preach it Trapped! Also if brain-dead Millenials would stop getting WORTHLESS college degrees, perhaps they could find a decent job. Hey Worthless Millenials, if all else fails, you could get you a CDL, go to the oil patch and make $100,000 a year! Just sayin’…….

I’m right on the break between silent and boomers. I’ll begone soon and so will a lot of boomers. Then the millennials can spit in one hand and blame in the other and see which fills up first. They can blame all they want but to fix it they will have to stop whining and go to “WORK”!!!

This post position is painting with a broad brush. And correctly captures much of what I witness.
My 37 yo son has breached these resentful-at-boomer thoughts with me. And I can see the the victim role assumption by some of his peers. And for what I have seen done in recent decades, I feel some collective guilt for, what is the coming doom predicted, and probable outcome ordained by reality. But I have worked since second grade. Paid payroll taxes non stop since 1964. It took me 20 years after graduation to buy a brand new car (a modest Toyota Celica) or take a week off from work. No guilt here for my SSI. And much gratitude for medicare! And if millennials resent boomers as a result of red pilling, so be it. I am here to help them overcome faults of the past and seek solutions for all. As are most of the men and women who comment here.

I once asked my son if he knows what Gerontocracy is.
Gerontocracy: a form of oligarchical rule in which an entity is ruled by leaders who are significantly older than most of the adult population.

As his vocabulary is equal or better than mine, he did know and replied his correct answer with a tinge of cynicism on his lips.

We do have evil old dinosaurs ready for the dust bin of history. Some are worthy of resurrection and retention. Time marches forward, goose stepping. ‘Tidal waves don’t beg forgiveness, crash and on their way.’ Time to move to higher ground lest you be drowned in the coming waves of the 4th turning?

Its hard not to be bitter. Remember all, I’m a “success” by any measure…and its laughable.

The decent jobs are being outsourced, either overseas or to boomer consultants who are flat-out refusing to retire.

I’m seeing both within my industry, my town, and my friends circle. Its brutal man.

Never mind that real wages are falling while inflation chews up all excess, with rises in healthcare and other costs eating up the remaining small gains.

Oh, and if you want children, best divorce your SO and register a separate mailing address, because if you are a traditional “middle class” couple that has completed college and are professional the cost to raise children is beyond prohibitive.

I’m still going to be fine. As an individual. But as a generation?

We’re screwed.

There’s enough blame to go around without throwing a whole generation under the bus or targeting one specific group or personality type to place all the blame for the degradation and social decay.
This is not to say that some generations, groups or individuals aren’t more responsible than others for the ills that afflict us now and tomorrow!

All you can do is manage what you Do.
Taken from the documentary “I AM” BY TOM SHADYAC …

A snipit from a film review
The film is an account of Tom’s journey around the world, speaking to the ‘significant minds’ of today. He asks them two questions ‘what’s wrong with our world?’ and ‘what can we do about it?’. He receives a wealth of answers, some of which I’ll go over, but the main conclusion was in the spirit of G.K. Chesterton’s response to The Times’ request to write an essay on the topic of “What’s wrong with the world?”: “Dear Sirs, I am. Sincerely yours”.
