Near-synonyms are “diversity,” meaning groups that cannot do the job well, and “inclusiveness,” which means seeking people who you know cannot do the job well. These underpin American society, and have ruined education. For some time the sciences seemed less susceptible to the prevailing enstupidation because mathematics would present an impenetrable barrier to the the insufficiently bright. This, astonishingly, is changing. The sciences are being dumbed down to–are you surprised?–spare the feelings of included affirmative diversity.
It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. Which somewhat curiously brings us to international politics and an aspect of scientific schooling that does not appear in the mainstream press: Psychometrists, people who endeavor to measure intelligence, universally agree that the Chinese are more intelligent than Eurowhites. So are the Koreans and Japanese. Since for the most part psychometrists are themselves white, their conclusions presumably do not spring from racial chauvinism. The Chinese advantage is measured at around five IQ points. This is not great but makes a considerable difference at the high end of the distribution.
As a matter of observable–if, to many, unwelcome–fact, virtually all of the work in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in America is done by whites. Blacks contribute nothing and Hispanics, to date anyway, very little. For reasons of politics we must pretend not to notice. When a piano is falling toward one’s head, one may pretend that it is not, but not for long. The arrival of the piano will ensure this.
America’s prosperity and place in the world very much depend on invention and excellence in the STEM fields. Boeing sells airliners, and provides jobs to Americans, only because its airliners are technically equal to those of AirBus. A lowering of technical capacity will have unfortunate consequences for the country.
America’s whites number at about 200 million, the Han Chinese of China about a billion–five times as many.
Beijing understands perfectly that technological virtuosity is crucial to the country’s well being. It spends heavily, and successfully, on increasing China’s performance. Those who follow such things note the speed of the the advance. A fully developed China will be able to deploy several times as many researchers and engineers, these being at least as intelligent as America’s, on problems of its choosing. Numbers count. They will count more as time goes by.
This strongly suggests that, unless Washington starts a major war to prevent it, or China collapses from within, the future is in the East. It also suggests that the United States would be well advised to do all it can to maintain its competitiveness for as long as it can. Instead it seems to be committing imperial harakiri, deliberately lowering the quality of education in all fields at all levels.
America’s suicide note: How Identity Politics is Harming the Sciences, by Heather Mac Donald. It is long but well worth reading. It documents the systematic lowering of intellectual standards in the sciences to increase the numbers of women and underperforming minorities. This, as she makes clear at length, is strongly supported by the federal government. A few examples:
“Entry requirements for graduate education are being revised. The American Astronomical Society has recommended that Ph.D. programs in astronomy eliminate the requirement that applicants take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) in physics, since it has a disparate impact on females and URMs….” (These are “Underrepresented Minorities.”)
“Mathematical problem-solving is being de-emphasized in favor of more qualitative group projects; the pace of undergraduate physics education is being slowed down so that no one gets left behind.”
“A typical INCLUDES grant from October 2017 directs $300,000 toward increasing Native American math involvement by incorporating “indigenous knowledge systems” into Navajo Nation Math Circles.”
“The National Institutes of Health are another diversity-obsessed federal science funder. Medical schools receive NIH training grants to support postdoctoral education for physicians pursuing a research career in such fields as oncology and cardiology. The NIH threatens to yank any training grant when it comes up for renewal if it has not supported a sufficient number of “underrepresented minorities” (URMs).”
“Medical school administrators urge admissions committees to overlook the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores of black and Hispanic student applicants and employ “holistic review” in order to engineer a diverse class. The result is a vast gap in entering qualifications.”
Mac Donald goes on to tell of school after school accepting diversity with credentials well below those of real students, of schools dropping the GRE requirement because it makes obvious that in STEM fields women and minorities are not performing as desired. (“Minorities” always means “poorly performing minorities.” Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and so on don’t count.)
The comparatively young may be so steeped in such corrupted pedagogy that they do not know how the sciences were formerly taught. A description:
I went to a small Southern school, Hampden-Sydney College, of respectable but not astonishing credentials. I believe the pre-dumbing-down SATs were a bit over 1100. This was before social justice had replaced competence as a reason for study. Freshmen were expected to be fully literate and know algebra cold. Remedial courses would have been thought crazy. If you needed them, you needed to be somewhere else. In any event, if you had graduated from high school without being able to read, you were unlikely to learn.
Freshman chemistry at H-S–much like freshman chemistry in other schools I suppose–was not a cooperative shared learning experience that avoided unnecessary facts. It did not exist to avoid disturbing heartwarming but dim-witted minorities. It was–boom!–s-p hybrid bonding orbitals, resonance in benzene rings, the wave equation del-squared psi and a bunch of constants, probability densities, quantum degeneracy, equilibrium constants, Pivnert the ideal gas equation, the mathematics of a mass spec, the Krebs cycle, and endless problems: 2.4 grams of phlogiston anhydride are dissolved in 2 liters of 2,4-diethyl-polywannacrackerine. What are the products and the weights and molarities of each at equilibrium?
It was real chemistry, sink or swim, and most of us swam because we were looking at med school or graduate work. If there had been affirmative-action students–”students”–most of the material would have had to be eliminated. Mathematical illiterates do not balance redox equations or interpolate four-place log tables which, in those slide-rule days, we did.
Pop quiz. Take out a sheet of paper. Question: Are Chinese students, there or here, studying de-mathematized semi-chemistry for reasons of identity proportionality? Or are they, at every high-end university or elite high school in America, eating the white kids alive?
The same madness appears below the level of college. Walter Williams writing of the 2017 National Assessment of Educational Progress in America: “Only 37 percent of 12th-graders tested proficient or better in reading, and only 25 percent did so in math. Among black students, only 17 percent tested proficient or better in reading, and just 7 percent reached at least a proficient level in math.”
What?
Affirmative action in the sciences needs to be scrapped. For everybody. The purpose of studying astrophysics should not be to make social-justice warriors feel good about themselves. If women do not do well at engineering mathematics, let them become neurosurgeons.

It’s not that the average Chinese is so clever, it’s that there are so many. Having hired plenty of utterly useless Chinese and Indian programmers, I can tell you we won’t be steam-rolled by their average talent.
The issue, of course, is that I could not afford to hire the really good ones. And there are plenty of them at Google and Facebook etc. etc. and plenty back in China too. Science and engineering leaps forward on the backs of the elite, not the average.

Advancements i science etc. are indeed driven by the few. My experience is that you also need well skilled average folks to grease the wheels. China is spilling those out of the machine in droves.
Here is a little factoid: China graduates more engineers each year than the US has in total. Hmmm. Maybe the bulk of them are average. But a fraction will be superior. And they will be invaluable. And the rest of the bulk will help grease the wheels of production. They will be the little worker bees implementing the ideas of the reaaly good engineers and scientists.
I hear how the quality of their education system is poor. That is largely true. But they send large numbers overseas for edducation, and what they lack in quality they more than make up for in volume.
Anyone noticed how they built islands out of virtually nothing, so as to expand their territorial control? That did not happen as a result of a bunch of idiots. It happen d via a few really good engineers and scientists, and a hoarde of skilled worker bee engineers and construction workers.
China will be the leading world power in coming years and decades. They will have some serious hiccups along the way. They are on the ascension. The US? MAGA? Not so much. Debt. Demographics. Social Strife. Those obstacles will prove too great to overcome. The debt will be defaulted, as what cannot be paid will not be paid. Demographics will not be changed – you cannot make the old young again, and boy howdy are there lots of old on the way, all wanting to milk the SS, Medicare, and pension cow, and there are insufficient young to support them. And social strife? You ain’t seen nothing yet.
How is asking Social Security to repay what was paid in, “milking”?

Wrong, every word of it…Northern and northwest European whites (but not southern Europeans, who are significantly dumber) are as smart as anyone on the planet, and much more creative…Their record of achievement backs that up. Fred’s research is shoddy in this area.
P – you got any facts on that? Every word is right that he said. You parse it down into small subsections, but that in no way refutes his claim, which is easily verifiable by a simple search.

Those two links clearly show you have no idea what you are talking about. East Asians have average IQs of 105,Northern Europeans 100. Looking at countries, the tpo 6 are Asian.

My point is that everyone is overestimating China. That’s different than “underestimating” them, as you say. Their newly created “islands” will turn out to be like their products now sold throughout the world: total shit when the first storm hits.

If I remember what I was taught in grad school, the Japanese had IQ’s about 10 points higher than Americans. However, third generation Americans who were pure blooded Japanese had the same IQ as other Americans.
Huh? It turned out that Japanese in Japan did about the same as Americans on most subtests of the IQ test, but skyrocketed their scores on the visual non-verbal subtests. Why? Because as children they had to learn thousands of characters in order to read, while the American born, regardless of ancestry, only had to learn 26 letters.
The brain grows and interconnects neurons as they are used and needed.
If you really want to know if the Chinese are more intelligent, test third generation American born Chinese.
Well the data on American of Chinese and Japanese and Korean decent is well established. Through effort, determination, more complex dendritic connections likely due to environment plus a biological advantage for a a larger portion of their racial groups they are dominating test scores in America. This is why the Harvards and such have been dropping them from entrance despite their lofty test scores. They are also dominating in the SAT’s and in the proficiency exams. Ever gone to a large hospital and see how many asian looking folks are Doctors? It’s a stereotype based on data. Their complex pictorial language system is not the cause for their ability to do well in the US. I had two asian friends in college that couldn’t speak any of their former native tongue let alone read any of it. They were dominant academics who went on to become Ph.D’s in Physics and the other a Medical Doctor. Only a portion of IQ is environmentally based, sure with proper diet, exercise and intense intellectual stimuli you might be able to raise an IQ 15pts, which is signficant. But a larger portion of Asians have a biological head start so given the proper enviro their dendritic growth can put them into an entirely different league than many others. Biopsychosocial underpinnings are well established at this point. Life is a complex interplay between environment, psychology, culture and biology. So biology may not be destiny all the time but its still a huge factor in many things, some of them not so good such as disease states.

I am pro affirmative action. As one of the resident liberals on TBP , I feel sorry for the colored people. The goal is for equal outcomes in our country and everyone knows that as a group they need a leg up. A race whose major accomplishments are running fast with watermelons and throwing rocks through windows are not equipped by the almighty to compete in modern civilized society. They are dumb and don’t want to change, therefore we must help them.
A cautionary note, when your affirmative action doctor or lawyer is the head of your professional team make sure he is getting the credit. However, he shouldn’t actually do the work leave that to those passed over due to affirmative action.

The problem we have in the USA is that our political system depends on an independent rational thinking voting population. Average IQ of say 97-99 is the cut off point for a representative republic to function. We are now right on the bubble now and if Hillary had been elected it would have been all over.
Immigration of low IQ people from LatAM or ME, Africa etc does not help it destroy America. Why? Because they are here for the free stuff the force of government extracting resources from the successful and giving it to them. Democrats.

Two things, we support the rights of the individual and property rights. That means that you keep the fruits of your efforts! In most cultures, the king/government takes the fruits of the successful and therefore most folks don’t try too hard. E.g. China, India never had empires.

Where to begin ? Parents , a now retired city school teacher lamented in her 25 years of teaching in the Baltimore City School System support from black administrators did not exist . The school system had more black administrators making $100k then any school system it’s size but a teacher could not even get a note a phone call or a grunt from parents of most of her students that were not making it . If she failed the students the administration was right up her white ass because dat be makes dem look bad .
She now teaches in a private Christian school and meets with concerned parents who actually give a shit and wow what a difference in outcome .

And our industry is uncompetitive with theirs. For hands on physical work we have over regulation of safety to avoid an accident and compo at all costs. This leads to stupid procedures that cost time and time is money. In office work the female workforce has so many leave entitlements, sick, parental, numerous annual domestic violence days and vacation. Women tend to use all of it up and more, but theres none of that in asia.

Nowadays, I would bet 3/4 of the projects are bullshit busy work instead of anything close to preparing a kid for a real career or job in anything that could be considered productive. They should be teaching problem solving. Why do you believe they should not be taught how to function in later life by learning to have a career or job? how are they supposed to support a family? Do you think that all of these social justice and pie in the sky things they are being taught is going to pay the rent? Bullshit. They need to be productive to pay the bills. I am not condoning taking away their childhood, far from it, BUT this nonsense of the 30 YO still living at home because they “fail to launch” is ridiculous.
They should not be wasting kids time with bullshit courses and busy work. If we have decided as a society that we are going to have schooling, then at least use the time wisely for something useful, not just a make work program for misguided liberals and lifer administrators. The other thing that would go a long way towards helping our youth is to get rid of the “mote” of credentialing in most occupations now. A piece of paper does not guarantee skill, and in many cases almost guarantees you someone that is incapable of thinking outside the box, or creatively about anything. The credentials scam is set up to protect the currently employed from being usurped by someone with more skill and more imagination that does not want debt.
I remember back when I lived in Virginia, there was a lawsuit alleging that the test to become a fireman in Va Beach was racist because white applicants tended to pass it at a higher rate than blacks.
Instead of acknowledging reality, they had to dumb down the test to make it ‘fair’. No idea whether passing a written test is all that important to how well a particular fire fighter can fight a fire or not, but it was just one of many cases where ‘fair’ means discriminatory against whites.
As I recall, same thing happened in Chicago many years ago when I lived there. The Fire Dept could not get any kneegrows on the job because they scored much lower on the written test. They said the test itself was racist. The mayor at the time was the little sawed off runt Richie Daley. So, Daley has a company come in to completely redesign the test to help the kneegrow applicant. Guess what happened? The kneegrows still couldn’t pass the test at numbers to compete with white applicants. Daley was furious. If I’m not mistaken now the Chgo Fire Dept uses a fucking lottery to hire applicants!

As a self taught electrical engineer and inventor, I am of the opinion that affirmative action only works at the school level and has very little impact, say, outside of the medical field which, as we know, is heavily subsidized by the government. How do I know this??? Easy. As someone that makes things, I often find myself at trade shows and other events populated by people that make things. It is where the rubber meets the road.
Wanna know what I do not see among the thousands of inventors – women. Sure sure, some companies hire women to help market and they even have them dress and act the part but that is where it ends as the most cursory of questions to one of these women will inform you that they are clueless about the inner-workings of the product they push. I’m pretty sure that that is where the larger companies use the woman that appears with a BS.
I’ve tried to remedy this and I can tell you as someone that has had a number of female interns both in the recording studio and in my electronics shop that women do not have the biological focus required to deal with difficult problems. For example, I have yet to meet a female that will tolerate listening to the same 18 seconds of music for 14 hours straight in order to get a certain instrument that is misbehaving to sit in the mix. They just wont do it – it drives them insane. Likewise, staring at schematics and numerical tables in the quest to figure out the optimum value and material of a filter capacitor is a fun day for me but pure hell for any female that I’ve ever attempted to task that job to. They don’t see the point and it really angers them.
Finally, women just lack for curiosity. I might build the same circuit 20 times and in 20 different ways just to see what happens. Even if I have a perfectly good working circuit, I might still build a dozen more just to exhaust every possibility. Women wont do this. Once they find something that works within the parameters – they stop.
Women are miserable when they attempt to act like men and should stop.
Women are natural multitaskers. They can watch 30 children, carry on four conversations at once, and retrace their steps to find something.
Men are of singular focus. They have narrow vision so as to be able to focus with great intent on game, they can hear only one thing at a time, they are able to focus on one issue at a time generally. One of my strengths in business has been to be able to bring lazer-like focus on sets of numbers, or on a singular an issue, for long periods of time.
Men and women are different. Women will struggle with roles where they need to be able to focus in very tightly on a task. They genetically, in my himble opinion, are not designed for that. Combine that with a general lack of aggression, non-interest in technical and numeric fields, etc., and they will struggle to compete with men in business and in technical fields. That is just how it is. There are many exceptions of course. But it is generally the way of things, and it will not be changed by quotas, affirmative action, or any other artificial means.
And there is no way to make Einsteins out of a cohort with an average IQ of 85. It is laughable to even try.
Edit: forgot to follow up re the women being able to retrace their steps. Men are very poor at that. Men put their book down on table X. Men go back to table X, no book. “Fuck, now what”, men say. Men have great spatial recognition, and can visualize where the thing was. But if it is not there, they have zero idea how to go about finding it. And hence a lot of arguments between husbands and wives. Women can find stuff, retrace steps. Men have no idea, and combining that with their tumnel vision, are shit poor at looking for things. Women can retrace steps, and have wide angle vision.
How many times has your wife moved something, you canno find it, and you ask if she moved it, and she answers no. After search, the item is found, and wife in fact moved it, but cannot remember. She does not need to remember where or if she moves things, as she is good at finding things. The man however needs things left where they were left, so he can return to them. Man, that has caused a lot strife in my house over the years. And I am not alone in that, I am sure.

I have a very close friend in charge of graduation at a liberal arts college in Washington state, in charge of the graduations. All education majors required to take a standard test upon graduation to become teachers. FIFTY percent failure rate.
Someone noted that therer are two or three hundred percent more psychology grads than engineers. Baristas with degrees to now get diversity training looks like.

I had to take that “standard” test in order to teach and I was shocked by what I experienced. At first I thought it must be some kind of sick joke because it looked like a test one might give a ten year old – no joke. I was quite angry at the insult this test presented and I immediately voiced my objections to it until I was told that 30% (this was 1998) of the college grads that took the test failed the test. Seeing no other way around it, I raced through the test as quickly as I possibly could and still finished in the 98th percentile.
I try to tell parents that the teachers instructing their children are, more often than not, dumber than the child they are trying to teach. I’ve seen it with my own eyes and sending a child to a public school IS nothing short of child abuse and, frankly, is unforgivable. Life is hard enough and spending 13 years of it with mouth breathing low IQ pension seekers isn’t going to do squat to help.
I would homeschool. The woman over the hill from us has three really smart and well behaved kids who use an online homeschool network.
I darn sure plan on home schooling my great grand son. The current situation of toxic stupidity in public schools make it unsafe to send him to one.
New York State had a similar test several years back. It was done away with because only about 70 percent of white applicants passed with about 50 percent Hispanics and about 40 percent black test takers passing. It was about as difficult as what 60 years ago was tested on NYS Regents exams in high school.
The odds of a fully qualified applicant to a doctoral program in clinical psychology being accepted into the program, for many decades, was 100 to 1. Psychologists may sometimes be idiots, but they are never stupid.
Yep, until it all implodes from the sheer weight of all the unproductive, entitled people making demands on those of us who actually work and produce. Once it all breaks, natural law of survival will reassert, and natural selection will commence again. The bubble will pop, and the law of the jungle will be back. Most of the smart, resourceful and strong will survive and ultimately prosper, the rest will perish, and rather quickly.
Maybe that’s what our great central planners had in mind all along? Depopulation at wholesale level when they decide to pull the plug. Hmm….
The SO used to work for a government contractor called Stoller, a bunch of white guys, everyone was happy. Then Stoller lost to Navarro, a female/hispanic ‘small business’ contractor who only stays small because they keep laying people off to stay under a certain number. Everyone but him quit in a year.
Asians may be 5 points on average higher in IQ than the average white but that slight margin is more than compensated for with inventiveness.
The white mind ( yes, races do actually think & work differently) is most often never satisfied with simply knowing facts or how to factor an equation– the white mind often seeks the “why” of a thing and wonders if there is another way or some invention to make it easier, more productive, expeditious or it’s effectiveness. The Chinese often are clever enough to repeat or understand the technologies ( which they often steal) but rarely do they demonstrate any advancements on these technologies.
PS: When I was in elementary school there were 5 of us who already were studying algebra. My day started off usually with my 5 AM swim team practice followed by my mom dropping me off at the local Junior High School ( that’s what we had back in the olden days for grades 7 thru 9) where the 3 Asian kids, myself and 1 other white male would take our Algebra/Geometry class with the JHS students. After class a “short bus” picked us up and took us to elementary school for our other classes with the 5th and 6th graders.
By 10th grade I finished the higher level Calculus class and then there were no other higher classes to take in math in high school. This is where it gets interesting……
My senior year I was informed I still needed one math credit to graduate so I took a “consumer math” course that was a waste of time. I still remember entering the classroom that first day and seeing a room 2/3rds filled with black kids and the rest were the potheads or Bruno jocks. They all were struggling with the simplest of things like decimals, percentages and fractions ( things I learned in 3rd grade) and most appeared to not even care.
Thank goodness there was no mandatory attendance requirement to get a decent grade ( and my teacher understood my plight)–showed up every Friday, took the test quickly and was allowed to leave.
Ran into similar scenarios in college– my first Anatomy/Physiology class was filled with people that would scare the hell out of me to think they actually worked in the medical field. The class was simplified to such a degree that I ended up with a score of 1080/1000 for my A. The point was that the teacher was always adding bonus points, test re-takes, throw out the lowest grade etc to ensure all of the “culturally disadvantaged” would also pass the course.
It really is scary to think that some of those Dindu idiots might actually be treating patients as nurses, phlebotomists, pharm techs, lab techs etc etc– no wonder my liability insurance continues to soar…………
You have to be pretty low on the intellectual scale to think being 22,000,000,0000,000.00 or so in debt will work out ok.

I am, BTW, a bit of a “socialist” because I support the idea of public libraries,
municipal infrastructure, green areas/parks, and even schools . However, the schools
would have to be segregated. Segregated NOT by race but by behavior. Unruly people
have to be transitioned into work they can do…eg, painting, grounds keeping, and street cleaning.
Still can’t behave? Well…I don’t know, what then? I would wish to provide the free lunch/
subsidies to the blind, deaf, and the physically disabled. Otherwise = work to eat or leave
the planet.
