Those rankings can be customized. Everyone has a different opinion of what freedom is. For me it’s outlawed DUI checkpoints, asset forfeiture restrictions, smoking a joint and keeping the wannabe super cops in check. When you factor those in those so called “free” states don’t look so free, while some other states take the prize. NY, NJ , IL and CA are awful any way you slice it.

It certainly would make sense as to why my outlook is less cynical than many other posters here. Take Eric Peters. I’ve lived in Virginia. I found it stifling. I couldn’t believe the stuff they pulled was legal. But unlike Eric, I knew it was different in other places. I don’t feel oppressed by the state here in Florida at all.

I lived in Virginia, and found the police to be thugs, and the people to be cold and conformist, lacking all imagination. Not a fan of that state.

VA was a shithole, thanks to the illegals and the libtards and the DC douchers. Further south, it’s better.

VA State troopers, biggest assholes on earth. And don’t get me started on the ABC liquor stores and weird ass liquor laws, and indecent exposure laws from the Victorian era. I won’t get into it.

George Mason would have packed his shit and moved.

Any state without a “gun show loophole” isn’t very free – income tax rate notwithstanding.

Minnesocold ranks 37th. This is the Land of 10,000 taxes. Just this year they allowed liquor stores to be open on Sunday.

Hennepin County (Minneapolis) has voted to grant $275,000 for defense funds of illegal aliens .

I wonder. Am I free, or free-er, if all my neighbors are just like me?

I haven’t interacted with a law enFORCEer since 1977. I don’t smoke. I don’t drink to excess. I am utterly DEPLORABLE. I shun those that I find icky.

I am happy where I am. Am I free?

CO2,tis things like no sales/income taxes/you own it/carry it/helmet-seatbelt laws. That said, property taxes many parts too high in comparison to land value and we need to be ready at drop of a hat to fight to keep/expand freedoms in Hampster.

Not to mention the inability of the NH government to legalize Marijuana. Pathetic to think that they consider it #2.

The Constitutional right to violent revolution and jury nullification- both unique among the 50 states- and they make pretty good consolation prizes.

So…Florida is the “most free state”. But they also have gators…so…yeah. I open carry if I want. I concealed carry if I want. Thank God for the great redoubt.

Not sure how Georgia ranked so high (or went up in the rankings since last year). A state that only recently legalized Sunday alcohol sales, only recently allowed the sale of beer with higher than 6% alcohol, and still will not permit the growing of cannabis to supply a pathetically-limited list of medical-marijuana-appropriate diagnosis, certainly doesn’t seem deserving of such a high ranking.

But then freedom in the US is a lot like the dollar. Sure, when you compare them all, some may be seen to be going up, and someone comes out on top, but when freedom overall (or the purchasing power of all fiat currencies) is plummeting, its all just relative.

It would be interesting to see the same criteria applied to the HISTORY of the US and other countries to see when we were all the FREEST.
