An Ancient Greek Sage (Sophocles) Has A Message For Pelosi, Schumer, And Ilk

As early as next week we’ll be hearing long speeches from those paragons of virtue, Schumer, Pelosi, & Ilk,  who lead such morally exemplary lives that they have now acquired God-like powers, such as, being able to ascribe immorality to a Wall. A few weeks later, Saint MAGA will be giving a State Of The Union speech (a Holy Ritual in which not even one teeny tiny little falsehood will be uttered).

Nothing disgusts me more about life in America than this culture’s wholesale abandonment of Virtue.

Even as the above sentence is being read, how many hundreds of people have already stopped reading or, have already formulated a negative response to what they “know” will be a hypocritical rant from a Chicken-Choking addicted moron? After all, Virtue is soooooo …. Old School! It’s a nice thing to have, and we ought to strive for it (at least on Sunday) but, at the end of the day, politics is inherently dirty and this thing called Virtue is impractical and irrelevant.

The overwhelmingly prevalent attitude today across all spectrums (Democrat, Republican, Conservative, Independent, male, female, etc., etc.) defines morality (Virtue) thusly;  a moral leader is one who uses the power of high office to bring about laws and policies that clarify national ideas, inspires the people, and brings together society towards greatness.

To further clarify, the definition of a moral leader today has virtually NOTHING to do with fearing God, personal rectitude,  being faithful to a spouse or renouncing untruths and devious business practices.

Just this past weekend on Sean Hannity’s radio show he beat to death the idea that “Trump’s supporters JUST DON’T CARE about Trump’s private life!!”.  In other words, to hell with morality! (A rather drastic change in position when Clinton was President and Hannity, Limbaugh and ilk ranted for eight long years about the importance of personal morality.)

In one national poll after another Americans through the years have become ever more willing to put up with leaders with personal flaws, even serious ones. Only about 15% of the public said it was most important that Presidents serve as moral role models; while about 3 in 4 said it was more important that Presidents do their job well.

Perhaps Americans subconsciously realize that the ability to combine personal purity with the political skills to lead the nation toward greatness has eluded most Presidents. After all, long before Donald Trump was grabbing his share of pussy, Thomas Jefferson was boinking black slaves when no one was looking.

Nevertheless, I simply have not yet grasped the mental gymnastics a person must employ to trust a person like Donald Trump. When  man breaks the most solemn vow of his entire life — a vow made before man and God — to be faithful and true to his wife, and then proceeds to repeatedly break that promise, and with multiple women,  then what kind of neuronic gyrations are going on in such a brain to foment this idea; “Hey, I can trust this guy!“??

It wasn’t always like this.  Let’s go far back in time when humanity actually thought things through to their logical conclusion. Specifically, read this excerpt from Sophocles’  “ANITGONE”.

Wonders are many, and none is more wonderful than man;

The power that crosses the white sea, …

He snares the light-hearted race of birds, and the tribes of savage beasts, and the creatures of the deep sea ….

He puts the halter around the horse’s neck,

And rings the nostrils of the angry bull,

He has devised himself a shelter

— against the rigors of frost and the pelting rains.

Speech and science he has taught himself,

And artfully formed laws for harmonious civic life….

Only against death he fights in vain.

But clear intelligence, a force beyond measure

— moves to work both good and ill ….

When he obeys the laws and honors justice,

— the city stands proud.

But man swerves from side to side,

and when the laws are broken, and set as naught,

— he is like a person without a city,

— beyond human boundary,

a horror, a pollution to be avoided.

Never may he share my home, never think my thoughts, who does these things!

Charles Freeman in his book The Closing of the Western Mind had this to say about this passage;

The closing line of this famous speech are a reminder that the great achievements of the Greeks in the use of rational thoughts have to be set within the wider context of their views of just government and correct moral behavior.

Isocrates (Athens 436-338 B.C.) looked back at the great men of Athens — Themistocles the hero of the Persian Wars, Pericles, etc. — and noted that these men used rhetoric solely for the good of the state.  What was vital to the success of Athens, he said, was the moral independence and integrity of the speaker, and training in moral responsibility was the essential part of rhetoric the people could believe in.  He wrote;

The stronger a person desires to persuade hearers the more he will work to be honorable and good and to have a good reputation among the citizens.

The great Roman orator Cicero wrote in Institutio Oratoriaan upright character and high ideals are presented as the fundamental qualities of a good speaker.

Now, regardless of your political affiliation, ask yourself; “Are there even 5 men or women such as Sophocles and Cicero described in the American Congress?”  I’m guessing that your answer, as mine, is a resounding “NO!!!”.

—————– –

INTERLUDE:

I see the prosperity of the wicked — Donald with his Billions and Nancy with her multitude of Millions.  There will be no pains in their death; Their bodies are fat.  They are not in trouble as other men, nor plagued like most of mankind. They wear their pride lie a diamond studded necklace; The garment of violence covers them.  Their eye bulges from fatness; The imaginations of their heart run riot.  They mock, and wickedly speak of oppression; They speak from on their high places and set their mouths against heaven and earth, And their tongue parades through the earth and they say “How can anyone stop us? Not even God knows!”  Yeah, these are your wicked leaders, always at ease, forever increasing in wealth … while you and I are stricken all day long, chastened every morning as we keep our own hearts pure in vain. But, Martin Luther King said “”The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Then I went into the sanctuary of God and understood their end. God will set them on slippery places. He will cast them down into destruction. In the twinkling of an eye they will all be brought into desolation … and they will be utterly consumed with terrors.

END INTERLUDE

—————– –

So, why do we even listen to these people??  When will you stop believing Lucy won’t move the football? Why do you think Red is better than Blue, or Blue is better then Red? How many times will you let them defecate on your dreams before you scream out “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!!”?  When will you use your rope and lead?

No empire has ever lasted forever. They all fall eventually, and for myriad of reasons.  But, I could make a case (perhaps in another article) that Moral Corruption is a common thread in virtually every instance, and that it is a catalyst which greatly speeds up the crash.  How can America escape what no other Empire ever has? [It won’t] Can we survive even another 20 years? [I doubt it.]

Sooooo …. next time you hear a speech from these frauds who “swerve from side to side” remember the words from Sophocles — that these people are a HORROR, and a POLLUTION to be AVOIDED.

And that includes roughly 535, plus The Golden One. God help us all.

Stuck – I have long given up hoping that people will require leaders to be persons of good character. To me, if you are not of good character, I do not want you in a position of authority. We have not had someone of good character as president for a long time, or even as a senior leader. The answer that “they are good at their job so it does not matter” is bullshit. It matters.

My sentiments exactly.
The other day on here I said both parties are equally corrupt and got the expected chorus of 1/3 of Republicans are honest and The freedom Caucus is honest. My reply to that is that if it were true, then their honesty would compel them to resign in protest or expose the corruption. To do the latter would mean having kiddie porn found on your hard drive or walking backwards into a knife 24 times in Rock Creek Park. In which case it would bring us back to Zero honest congressmen/women/congresstrannies/fags/dykes/hermies etc.

Over the past few weeks I saw Carlson ask Freedom Caucus guys “so who in leadership stopped you or this?” We now all know McCain, Ryan and Kinzinger were conspiring with the Dhimmicrats against Trump from day one yet not one would say Ryan, although a couple grinned at the suggestion. Republicans grin and cower while Muslim filth Democrats call the President a mother fucker in public, and of course also throw all pretense under the bus as they vote for Nancy after swearing high and low they would not.

Stucky. Been thinking about this topic a lot lately. Was almost tempted to write something about it.

I think virtue has been pushed aside for what is practical. And since we live in a society that is by and large corrupt, what is practical is also corrupt. Our laws are therefor corrupt, which means both those at the top of our political food chain (and those at the bottom) are corrupt too.

Virtue is now the realm of certain segments of the middle class. And of course, as the middle class gets squeezed by corruption on either end they too follow the pattern.

Frankly – watching it happen and being unable to stop it as it rolls over us like a freight train is exhausting some days. What makes it even harder to take is the constant virtue signalling that comes from the worst offenders (who are anything but virtuous).

I think it’s a big part of the reason I don’t feel like writing these days. It’s hard enough to keep myself from saying “Fuck it, I quit”. Sometimes I’d like to just walk away and watch it all burn. Maybe I could hide out in my parent’s basement?

Then I think maybe it’s just all a part of the cycle and it will end soon?

Or were we ever virtuous? David had several wives over his lifetime. God still loved him. Perhaps it’s a matter of degree?

Excellent point FM. I don’t see that we were ever virtuous. It would be impossible to name a politician who was virtuous. Even if you were to point at the one of them managed to do one virtuous thing, there would an endless line of unvirtuous skeletons lined up in his closet. Virtue is not a prerequisite for leadership and in fact one would have to assume that virtue would be an impediment to leadership.

In this past year, after a long hard fight, I lost my dead daddy’s house to the rest home and reverse mortgage company to fight over, old mom is still rackin’ up about 5500 month in rent, I had a heart attack ( small time construction projects), resulting in a couple of stints and then a quadruple bypass, a week later released from the hospital, and the very next morning my brother in law (divorced for over 20 yrs. and for the past 11yrs. had taken his mother in when father in law passed) was dead in his bed from a heart attack ! He had retired two months earlier from aircraft assembly (excellent pension), and never drew up a will. His two sons immediately evicted their 84 yr. old grandma, and my wife and I had to buy a small two bedroom house (there went my wife’s meager pension) a couple of houses down from ours……..only part of what we’ve had drop on us…….but me and Murphy have always been close.

First of all, let me say this piece was pretty phenomenal and your interlude approaches poetry.

Here’s how I see it: Trump is a man of his time and, perhaps, a reflection of America’s current WWE/Reality TV culture. Decency and demures were set aside decades ago, so what we are seeing now is the end game.

To those who support Trump, he is merely the vehicle by which to get even with the politically correct hypocrites. Trump may not have goods to completely tear down the existing establishment and he will very likely go down in flames. But, in the interim, he Tweets what guys like me are thinking. And watching the PC Crowd melt down, the hypocrisy of the establishment revealed, and the Lamestream Media’s dresses get torn away every day is fun to watch. Sure, we know we’re doomed and Trump likes beautiful women, but at least the snowflakes are getting what they deserve; even if only in part.

Although it is becoming obvious people like Robert Muleface, the Clintons, Rosenclown, and O’Barry may not ever be held accountable for their high crimes and misdemeanors, Trump’s 1/2020th tweet on Pocahontas Warren was hilarious. At least Boy Trump is trustworthy enough to Tweet against all of the Emperors not wearing any clothes.

Of course, it’s not enough, but at this late stage in the game, we’ll take what we can get. No mental gymnastics necessary. It’s a just frickin’ TV show.

Or not

It’s a show all right. But what kind? A fairy tale? A horror? Comedy? Tragedy/drama?

I guess it depends on the day. In the meantime, while we are being entertained, Rome continues to burn and the natives, at least those paying attention, are growing increasingly restless.

It is a passage from Psalm 73. I “doctored” it up to disguise that fact …. cuz if I would have just quoted it as is …. no one would have read it! I’m a sneaky bastard, aren’t I? lol

Dude, I just want to say I’ve always found your honesty inspirational. You do so, even against the risk of not taking yourself too seriously; and in so doing, you put your readers first in ways most may not even recognize. I just checked and now see the similarity of Psalm 73 verses 3 -19 – but, even knowing it served as your template, your interlude is still just as impressive; maybe even more so.

Hey, remember the time way back … when we basically couldn’t stand each other? Heh heh.

The time to which you are referring, even in my bottomless pit, when I wanted to tear it all down and paint it black, I still looked on you with great favor. You, Admin, Llpoh, Mags, EC, and others, gave me grace I didn’t deserve and when I was close to banishment and/or flouncing, you, personally, gave me a pep talk as one of the adults in the room. When I saw the value here, the community, I no longer desired to test the boundaries. I admitted I was wrong and you said if I meant it, y’all “could” be a “forgiving bunch” (or something similar). Honestly, I doubted that. Even so, I told ya I meant it and I’d prove it. It was a long road back, but still fun, and with more than a few setbacks (my apologies to dear Rose). I’m still not there yet, but I’m better than when I started. Less anger, less fear. Community will do that to ‘ya. Even one full of people ‘ya may never meet.

I would like to add a word to this discussion; Repentance.

Without it, the man who wrote “Amazing Grace” would never have been accepted as a Christian and would be forever labeled as the wretch that he was. Except that he repented.

In the two cases of presidents who were known to be unfaithful husbands, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump for example, has either one repented for their indescretion? When I consider repentance, I am not just talking about making a public statement, but as in the case of John Newton, the composer of Amazing Grace, a changed life according to his conversion.
In comparing Clinton and Trump, it’s pretty obvious in Clinton’s case, the same womanizer he was continues to today, but in Trumps case, surely the MSM would have dug up something juicy to humiliate him in his run for the office of the president. To me, aside from making public apologies that the press would have used to have made him into a Romney whining lap dog of the media, who would have hounded Trump into oblivion, Trumps actions spoke louder than his words ever could have.
My point is this; the media has as its most useful tool, exposed past indiscretions that in their mind, disqualify any they set their sights on as hopelessly wrecked for any future in public office.
If this is your understanding of virtue, you give the rope to the media to hang any that they deem unfit and the green light to their placing in power any they deem virtuous by their “overlooking” any sins they feel are irrelevant to their man for the job.

Not Sure, I understand where you’re coming from, but from what I understand, we really don’t know for sure if Trump had affairs while married to Melania. We know he had affairs in the past, but then he became a Christian. The media is full of Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, but were these women really seeing Trump or were they just after money, knowing that people with money will simple pay them off rather than go through a costly court case. Considering the negotiations for payoffs to both women went on for so long it makes you wonder who is telling the truth. Why would Trump drag it out if guilty? And based on the reputations of these two women, would you trust what they say? I haven’t seen any proof so far that these women are telling the truth, so I’ll withhold judgment on that aspect.

I am under the impression Trump has become or became much more of a believing Christian since he met Melania. He is the most active President surely in recent years attending religious events, invoking the Lord’s name and the only President to ever actively and openly support right to life events.
I cannot see his soul or read his mind but how many here have come to believe much more strongly that they must follow the path of the Lord or of “morality” etc?
I see the human wreckage every day all around me of the unbelievers, the immoral, the lost.

It’s going to get worse. Distractions such as the Warren tweet will not fire up the base. The Coulter fired a shot across his bow. Too bad. He will cave. He’s fucked in so many ways.

The fork in the road has two signs, impeachment or a 2 year Coulter-Limbaugh tongue-lashing. Impeachment might be the better route.

Of course, Coulter and Limbaugh never break a sweat. They don’t have to deal with the idiots. Theirs is easy work paying big bucks.

There was a guy at the street corner trying to start his car and the guy behind him kept honking his horn. After a few minutes of this, the first guy went over to the second car and told the driver, look, why don’t you go try starting my car and I’ll sit here and honk the horn for a while? – Old Pangloss

He needs to order an investigation into Clinton. One phone call will do it.

Back to yesterday’s topic: if they really want to start a war in the western hemisphere, Mexico is ripe for it. How many politicos need to die before people realize they don’t have a government? I bring this up also because the wall would almost certainly precipitate a shooting war there.

Every damn president that came in would seek to quell rebellion and the cartels in a particular area according to who they favored. AMLO is an unknown quantity. Will he clamp down on the cartels or will he cave?

The wall better be up before the shooting starts or we shall see a huge influx of refugees. The other option is to send a “peace-keeping force” there to secure the border.

So, no need for growing a pair, he just needs to get ready for the AMLO revolution to fizzle like Venezuela.

I read that the MIC was looking to start a war in Latin America. We already intervened in Nicaragua, Salvador and Panama. Venezuela seems to be a British-like starvation tactic. The cartels are well armed and have their own communication networks, cell and radio.

It was a wild proposition but for two realities: Dali said Mexico was too surreal for him and the cartels are comprised of descendants of the Aztecs; pioneers in the art of torture. They have no sense of human pity and are not afraid of hell. They have made a pact with the devil and worship Santa Muerte and Jesus Malverde, patron saint of thieves.

I’m not worried about the down-votes, they are like the Pavlovian coke monkeys that are willing to hit the button thousands of times just to get a crack cocaine reward.

One problem Trump will have is now the news is reporting tax refunds will be postponed if the government is shutdown. I think a little executive order bringing in some IRS employees may be called for. If not, people will be pissed and Trump will get the blame. Yes … and close down all those that are currently regarded as “essential.” All of them. Also, make it clear you will sign no bill that restores pay for time during the shutdown. As it is, about 70% are classed as “essential” and the other 30 (MOL) know they’ll be paid so there is no particular urgency.

It’s like when you have a loved one that is very ill. The worst part is not knowing what the problem is. You can endure a terrible disease if you know what it is because you can develop a plan and fight back. But when you’re in limbo and you never really know what is happening then you are POWERLESS TO ACT.

This is where we are right now. We are in limbo – somewhere between justice and failure without knowing which direction the body is actually headed. It is demoralizing. Many of us can deal with adversity or with success equally – whichever comes our way. But not knowing?

Limbo is hell.

At this point I would call this the Ann Coulter shutdown. Trump needs to grow a pair and tell Coulter to fuck off. This is a man’s job, she needs to fucking butt out and go feed the cats.

Stucky, let me just take one sentence that grabbed me and opine/rant:

“No empire has ever lasted forever. They all fall eventually, and for myriad of reasons.”

Yep, and it’s coming close to the time for the American Empire to collapse in on itself from the self-inflicted wounds, the metastasizing internal moral rot, greed, compliancy, allowed illegal invasion and last but not least the too much wealth and comfort leading to what too many do with it…they become fat, lazy and then obese with self-destructive entitlement.

Unbridled multi-generational attacks by our foreign and domestic enema enimies have not only NOT been fended off…their self-described LONG MARCH has trampled and broken the Constitution frame the Founding Framers gave U.S.

For the third time their secret renewed baby steps restarted in 1913 (the third time is the charm) and along with the Frankfort School’s seeping Cultural Marxism…they are publically and proudly goose stepping down main street in 2019…and half of America is cheering!

The Luciferianian Banksters, the Courts they infested that made cuckholds of Congress, the traitor Presidents, the Shadow Government they slipped in year after decade after century, the perversion of our media, of our public education system, of our entertainment complex, of our now filthy sick culture has been upstream for so long too many of U.S. are polluted, sick, wounded, bleeding and staggering. We are a rotting, putrid empire falling down like a bleary drunk.

I said too many – but not me and not a lot of people I read here and a lot of people I know in my Church and town.

Outside an Alamo handful of the 535 who haven’t been bought, bribed or Brown-stoned we are bleeding to death from a thousand cuts.

Is there hope? Of course there is…there always is!

GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED OR SURPRISED.

I make sure I do something…every single day to get ready for the shitstorm coming.

I’m a seriously-armed Prepper, homesteader, free American Patriot, modern day Minuteman who flies Old Glory, The Pine Tree Flag, The Stars and Bars, The Red Globe and Anchor of the Mother Green Killing Machine and last but not least the yellow Don’t Tread On Me warning.

I ran across this poem many years ago and the second I read it I knew I found my battle cry for the rest of my life:

MY ORDERS
by Agnes Ethelwyn Wetherald

My Orders are to fight;
Then If I bled or fail
Or strongly win what matters it?
God only doth prevail.
The servant craveth naught
Except to serve with might.
I was not told to win or lose
My orders are to fight.

One of the Saints said our job is not to win the fight in our lifetime but to insure the fight continues and to do our part in our time to move it forward toward the ultimate victory. Actually some of the “must have victory now” sentiments, while surely understood are little more than our side wanting instant gratification which may not be in the cards. While I would like my victory in my time, the idea of my grandsons trampling our enemies into the dirt in their time is surely a thought to be treasured.
