The Treaty of Versailles

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

It’s only been a couple of months since my son and I took our trip down the eastern seaboard to visit with family and see some of the historic sites he had only heard of or seen in books; Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, D.C. but it already seems like another time. There’s a giant fuzzy part right around the holidays where I injured myself rather badly and faced not only an operation, but a rather lengthy recovery. I was glad for the pain management the physicians prescribed, but even happier once I was able to deal with it without them.

They affected my thinking and left me vulnerable to self-pity, the exact opposite of what it takes for a healthy recuperation. I have come to see the accident as a gift, really. Never have I had an opportunity to both write and study to my heart’s content. I haven’t suffered one moment of boredom, thanks in large part to the dutiful and loving care of my wife and children. I don’t think I have ever considered just how much value is built up in our daily interactions with each other, how all the multitudes of small kindnesses build up huge balances in unseen accounts and how the dividends of love and commitment pay us when we need it most.

If they are frustrated with the additional labor they have to carry their only response has been to do even more than what was expected. Last night it snowed a good foot or more and this morning after visiting with me and having a nice breakfast my wife and sons headed outside in a great mood to shovel and plow together and when they finally came back in they were happier still. In many ways my current situation could have been a near catastrophe- just look at how high paid furloughed government workers complain after a single missed paycheck- at least they have insurance.

There’s no union for sustenance farmers, no disability or workman’s comp. I don’t get unemployment during this period and what I was able to earn must now wait until I can work again, at least a few more months, best case scenario. And the first thing I have to attend to is to finish removing the maple tree I fell out of that left me lame. As many of you know I began to work on a book I have been putting off due to the pace of my life and now life has given me not only the time, but the motivation to do something I have put off for a very long time.

I have begun sending out thank-you cards to the numerous readers who have sent me such thoughtful gifts and contributions to help us get by and there’s really no way for me to express my humble thanks for all the kind thoughts, prayers and wishes that have been sent my way. Maybe I’m creating something in my own mind, but I believe that it has helped me in my recovery. I know for certain that it has inspired me to write every day because that connection, that feeling of being able to speak to other people who see the same things that I see and experience the world in a similar manner, is repeated in so many of my communications.

When I began to write again after an almost ten year hiatus I promised myself- and my wife-that I would stick to my own life and avoid the topics I’d touched on in the past if they could possibly give offense regardless of how much I might want to say. I think I have done a fairly decent job of that and anyone who knows me understands the kind of man I am and what my intentions are. I’m interested in the truth the way the Greek philosophers understood it and in trying to communicate the way we live our lives- good and bad- to show that you can live the truth.

There’s a problem with that. Clearly we have entered a time when speaking the truth as you see it and understand it, even if you have no ill intent, is considered anathema if it contradicts The Narrative. And it’s ever changing. One day you do exactly what you were taught to do by the parents that raised you and the next thing you know you’ve offended an entire class of people you’ve never even heard of before by observing the values and morals you’ve based your life on.

Living in America, especially anywhere off your own property, is like walking on eggshells, every word or gesture is loaded if someone decides it is and any interaction is fraught with misunderstanding and hostility. I know that my own government when it asks me to fill out a form sees me as a 58 year-old, married, White, male with four dependents but that if I am to openly identify myself as such I am subject to derision, hatred and ridicule. Of course that’s not at all how almost half of America would see me.

To those who are far more privileged than I, wealthier, better educated, embraced by the establishment, free to protest and march for their own interests see me as a threat- to their identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, race. After a half century or more of efforts to ameliorate our divisions, they’ve only exacerbated them, leaving all of us in a perpetual state of agitation and simmering anger.

Yesterday I came across a current media piece that presented a video of a young white male wearing a Make America Great Again hat face to face with an elderly Native American beating a drum at face level. The way it has been presented in the press is the way virtually every encounter between a white male and any non-white is usually presented- the White male is by default guilty of some infraction of the Politically Correct code.

In this instance his smile and the fact that he is standing so close to the Elder is that he is engaging in some form of bigotry, intolerance and whatever else they could pin on him and if you saw only the clip they presented without any explanation for how these two men came to be in that place at that time you could easily see where his smirk is disrespectful, but that would be about as far as you could spin it and teenagers are not known for their fawning respect for their elders even in the most rigidly patriarchal systems.

The problem isn’t in the confrontation, but in the blatant dishonesty used to twist a few seconds of footage into a 250 year narrative. I finally found the entire clip and while at more than an hour and a half in length may be too much for most viewers, let me assure you that not one “trusted news source” made any effort whatsoever to tell a truthful story. In fact they did everything in their power to not only deliberately mislead the casual viewer, but to try and fire up the mob to ruin this young man- and by association all young White males for an infraction that never occurred.

HATE HOAX: Native American Activist Approached Chanting Covington Catholic Teens, Got In Their Face
The viral Twitter posts claiming a group of Covington Catholic teenagers aggressively ‘surrounded’ a Native American man on Friday and ‘mocked,’ ‘harassed’ and ‘threatened’

As you will see the event took place at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, the American shrine to equality. The entire area is open to anyone, from anywhere, at any time. There were, at the outset of the videotape, two small groups of protesters, one made up of Native Americans that was keeping to themselves and a group of 30-something Black males that were preaching a kind of firebrand/racial Bible-speak I was unfamiliar with, although I immediately recognized their citation from Ecclesiastes that specifically stated “there is a time to hate…” and made clear in no uncertain terms who they thought deserved hating.

For the majority of the video the Black preachers sparred with the Native Americans and there was plenty of racial taunting and insults, especially towards random Whites who wandered by- crackers, rednecks, ashen faced- and plenty of not so thinly veiled threats addressed towards people minding their own business. In the final third a large group of teenage males began to gather behind the Black preachers, a fairly good distance from the Native American protesters.

They seemed rather amused at the wild arguments and constant insults being traded back and forth, but they did not butt in or engage them until they had been verbally abused for a good ten minutes. Eventually the Native American elder with a tom-tom style drum held at face height approached and walked directly INTO the crowd of teenagers who rather than backing up, simply held their ground. And instead of showing signs of deference to being approached in what is a socially awkward manner (banging a drum in someone’s face is supposed to diffuse tensions?) they appear to find the entire episode entertaining.

And one fifteen second clip of a young man who was merely standing with his friends completely innocent of any form of harassment or incitement has now been openly threatened across the entire Internet by the bannermen of the Progressive Elites for being in his nation’s Capitol with his friends and NOT groveling in front of a benighted minority who got in his face.

So before I ask the obvious question, help me understand what those young men did to deserve the firestorm of criticism they have endured, and the fallout from which at least one of them will have to carry like a scarlet A for the rest of his life. What would the correct response be to an older man making an aggressive move into his personal space? Should he have given him money? knelt before him, abandoned the small spot on Earth he occupied just because a stranger was beating a drum in his face?

If they had ignored him completely we’d hear about how they “marginalized” them by treating them as if they were invisible. I thought that while they weren’t exactly deferential to a group that was doing a very poor job of articulating tolerance, they were certainly restrained having both the numbers and the youthful energy to easily stand up to both groups.

The fact is the preachers stood there inciting people, especially along racial lines, for an hour and a half and the only real complaint is that a group of high school students demonstrated their own form of group cohesion in the face of racial intimidation. There’s simply no other way to look at this, if you watch the entire clip and the only way you can accuse the students of any kind of racial taunting is if you deliberately conceal what actually took place.

And that’s what makes any resolution in the current era impossible. You cannot constantly hammer people with the idea that past White racial behavior is abhorrent while ignoring real time racial hatred directed at them is not only acceptable, but not to even be discussed. You can’t make the claim that diversity is our greatest strength when virtually every interaction that doesn’t involve riot police seems to be fraught with tension and miscommunication.

I’ve been through this circus before and there’s no way to get out of it gracefully because you aren’t afforded an opportunity to defend yourself. You may be accused, they may selectively pick and choose what piece of information they want to show without any context and condemn you for motives based on something as vague as a nervous grin, like they did to this poor young man. You are only allowed to accept the scorn and if you do it fast enough with abject regret, perhaps apologize to people you’ve never met, for something you never intended. Each month it continues to ramp up, until the only smart move is to completely withdraw from the modern world.

The problem is not one that can be corrected. The very concept that people should be held accountable for crimes they haven’t committed based only their race is a complete contradiction to everything The Narrative has been trying to convince us of for the past half century. They demand that we submit to rules from which they are exempt and to do it in the name of equality.

They shame people for enduring the abuse of others in a manner that is insufficient and allow the abusers complete cover for far more egregious affronts and ask us to not notice the double standard. That it works at all is astonishing and it can only be the result of a long and intensive conditioning to remain cowed, to always cede ground no matter how illogical or hypocritical the standards demanded. Except of course for those who refuse to cave.

I know that the vast majority of people who saw the coverage of the Catholic high school students encounter believed The Narrative the networks tried to push and I’m sure that they are delighted that their efforts have resulted in threats to the young man’s life for simply refusing to be bullied by a much older man, but there was something else we could see if we looked at it another way.

We saw a very large group of young men who have grown up their entire lives submitting to an educational, religious and social education that should have left them all sobbing in apology in the mere presence of their social betters, and they were standing on their own feet, refusing to bend down on one knee. And that is something the MSM missed completely.

We have come to a Treaty of Versailles moment, where the victors in the cultural wars make demands upon their defeated enemy requiring not only the transfer of their wealth, but their complete humiliation. And we all know how that turned out.

UPDATE!!!

While I was writing this piece Attorney Robert Barnes offered to represent any and all of the students present, pro bono in a libel case against both CNN and The New York Times for their perfidious coverage of this non-event.

Trust the media and government at your own peril is the message I spread. All these years with my wife and I can’t get her to stop watching Good Morning America. Every chance I get, I yell at their lies. I often go to work in the morning in a foul mood. Depressing but I won’t stop.

I read this over at another blog . I’m glad they stood their ground. I didn’t watch the video cause I just get to upset and want to harm people.I will watch it a little later.
This is off topic but here goes. Since you have time on your hands.
Watch this 1) . Sending Thor to Smash the Firmament ,Rob Skiba.2 ) Oh look – Is that the Firmament ? Sweet let’s Nuke it ., Rob Skiba
3) The Gofast rocket 2014 73 miles up and going fast until it hit something . Kinda funny . 4) Research Admiral Byrd trips to the north and south poles. He was Indiana Jones on Steroids . Read what he says about the Antarctica .
After you watch these Hardframer ask the question why would the leading nations get together to ban all travel to Antarctica 1961. These days you are not allowed to fly over it. Governments have scientists up there but you think they could be hiding something ? You can watch most of this in less than an hour. A little longer if you do research about the Admiral.

Hey, BB, thank you for your card and your gift. I’m sending something back your way, but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your kind words. I know I’ve said it before but it would be a pleasure to show you around if you ever get up my way.

And yeah, the Antarctica protocols don’t see suspicious at all, do they?

Will check out the other suggestions.

I’m the same way with my wife, only she insists on watching the local ABC affiliate and Gayvid Muir every night for the “news”. I patiently point out the utter lies, mis-coverage and non-coverage of important stories. She usually agrees in a point by point discussion but she’s not exactly watching to become informed, just entertained.
There must be something compelling about watching a pretty boy fudge packer rattling on inanely but I don’t get it.
Maybe I’m obtuse.

I returned to my farm this summer, uninhabited for 30 years, alone and divorced by my wife and partner of 40 some years. I’ve kept the fields mowed and the house in semi repair. There is a new group of neighbors. All the old-timers who welcomed and helped me years ago are gone. The newcomers are good people, folks with skills and training who found a way to live in the country and earn a livelihood in a state with terribly low stats on all the indices of success. They raised their kids here and sent them into the world well grounded. Here’s the thing. They are all left of center in varying degrees. Again, they are good people who I socialize with but have major differences with on several issues. I know that if I called on any of them for assistance they would respond, just as I would for them. I have learned to listen and be very thoughtful in conversations. I try to plant seeds of doubt regarding their beliefs. Stuff like how the welfare system has destroyed the black family in America. Some listen and some are rigidly locked into their version of 3-D reality, as are many on both sides of the political spectrum. I’ve let them know that I am into free speech, period. They cannot define hate speech, but know it when they see it and want it censored by whoever. I respond it is either free speech or censorship. There is nothing in between however good your intentions.
You are a great writer with an uncanny knack for getting to the core of things. I believe that with proper exposure your wisdom will have lasting influence. I am sending a check for a signed copy of your book.

I saw a headline yesterday similar to “Young Trump Supporters Disrespect Native American” but figured it was just another “privilege” piece and so never checked it out.

Just now, though, I watched the video above and it seemed like a bunch of teenagers doing what teenagers do.

The snowflakes, however, instead saw a bunch of young Brett Kavanaugh’s in training and waiting to pounce.

Hardscrabble wrote above:

One day you do exactly what you were taught to do by the parents that raised you and the next thing you know you’ve offended an entire class of people you’ve never even heard of before by observing the values and morals you’ve based your life on.

Ironically, I found myself ruminating upon that very thing this morning while perusing this article:

I Was A Gay Student At The Evangelical Christian School Where Karen Pence Now Teaches

At the end of this piece, the author wrote this:

While part of me would love to see the supposed liberal-fascist machine shut down schools like ICS, that won’t ever happen. Religious schools are part of this country. So, instead, I would like to see them change from within. And that won’t happen if we refuse to even talk about them. I’m glad we’re talking about this school, and I’m glad people are being critical. Now maybe the Pences are the ones who will have to learn some resilience.

And with this byline:

Ian Cronkhite grew up in Northern Virginia. He now works as a software engineer and lives with his husband in Maryland.

Dorothy? In Kansas, we ain’t. Nevermore. There’s no place like home.

“BuzzFeed Editor Says Brett Kavanaugh Is A Lot Like That Covington …”

Also, I read a similar article about another previous student of ICS.
Instead of the byline you saw, there was a link to help lines for student minors
who were considering suicide.

The last couple of essays you have written Scrabble have really resonated with me.
I am writing but not sure if I will post. It is dangerous to confront the narrative.

Been lurking about the rabbit hole and stumbled on this..
Watched this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XoK7fQLCPw

The Womyn did her best to present her opinion as fact.
Droning on and on about white privilege.
The Interviewer did his best to deflect her accusations.
Nothing was accomplished
but it turned out to be enlightening
Which surprised me…
Once I found the kryptonite in the links of the description.

Interesting stuff. no wonder she was in such a hurry at end of interview to run off..

Anyways thanks again for your observations.
I am finding them helpful.

Cheers

I do.

Reading Scrabbles musings has, as mentioned above, resonated with me. Though not myself physically infirm, I am spending much of my days observing, reading and not saying much. This self imposed exile is driving my wife crazy. She worries that my reasoning has slipped its earthly bounds. It has not…

I will admit that it is easy being an observer when you wade shores outside the narrative as I have often done in past. Still who da thunk it that it would be a young man from Covington high would be the ONE.
The Neo who would show everyone else the way to Zion.

He is the krytonite right now.
The virus in the matrix.
This Monday is a glorious day….

In my quiet moments, this morning, I can hear the cognitive dissonance as it spreads across the narrative. Could it be that the crisis of this turning is upon us? I sure hope so as…

The continual bashing from the left of all things white has become so overt that even to the most hardened leftist ideologue is being forced to confront it. Hopefully some of them will take time to reflect and confront their moral dilemma..

the rest of us can find solace that this coming generation is going to be a force.
Hope and change for real.

We have a larger-than-normal snowfall with lower than expected temperatures which has driven a lot of trudging out to feed, water and care for my animals. The barnyard is probably less than a football or rugby field length away, but it is an uphill climb I dread when temperatures are in the teens and below. But, they are my animals and I am thankful I am able to make the trek and take care of them again. My poor, dear husband deserves an award. Or a cake.

RiNS, I was thinking about your experiences from years past, nothing specific, but a general sense of the tragic realization that it all could have been averted only if… and how unresolved so many issues remain. I suspect it is the same for any great tragedy faced, especially when there is a chain of blame to be assigned and distributed. But, I am forced to realize that line of thinking is best not drawn in the sand or anywhere. The blame kind of distributes itself, with plenty to go around and far more shoulders to burden than you or I could even point toward. It is the acceptance point where we balk: Acceptance is the point of no return in the grieving process.

We literally will not watch the news here. If we see something “referred” to, such as the incident discussed here, we might look further onto trusted news sites (I like Whatfinger, as well) and/or search the internet for a story we think we trust. My husband gets most of his/our news via his football forum, so that means our news point of view is from Cleveland football fans. Think about that perspective.

Anyhow… a few musings while I get ready to check on that pregnant nanny. Seriously, she’s about to pop.

Yeah I have been avoiding news of late. Playing bridge and reading books. Exciting stuff eh!
And I too am a recent subscriber to whatfinger. Good website! Even took a break from TBP. You likely can understand that as well.

It never lasts very long.

And I agree with you about acceptance. It is tough to hold. I liken it to grabbing a greased pig in a barnyard of shit. I still sometimes project upon myself what should be other peoples moral dilemmas. However I do now see that is not a great idea.

I already have enough of my own..

It parallels what is happening today in broader society. This twisted post modern narrative is bent on projecting on the white people of today the past sins of persons long dead. It is a burden that is designed to be impossible to carry. For long time it was effective but things, I think, are changing. Charges of racism have lost their sting as a pejorative..

It’s about time…

These young men from Kentucky can teach us old farts a thing or two about how to confront the hostility and contempt of the left and their minions..As for any realizations I might have, well, there sure is an inevitability to tragedies. They cannot be stopped only accepted. For it is in only tragedy that society is rid of rot and decay. It shouldn’t to be that way but sadly it is.

Same as it ever was….

I watched it and could not help but notice a few things-

I have a visceral reaction to the use of the word ‘problematic’. It is never used in any way that leads to a solution.

She’s in pretty poor physical condition for her age and she exhibited a couple of nervous tics that were indicative of some neurological or psychological disorder. A relaxed organism does not shift constantly in their place, eyes darting, blinking rapidly, and rolling back in her head. Her speech pattern was about 1.5x faster than most people outside of NYC and came out in bursts and randomly broke and halted. Very odd for a person who should be relatively comfortable (she’s in her own house).

There’s something wrong with her and the stark comparison with the guy, he was relaxed, speech pattern was fairly stable and he wasn’t bobbing and shaking all over the place while he spoke made her look even more…what? Neurotic? Paranoid? Medicated?

But then here’s the gist of it. She hate, hate, hates the concept of “White supremacy” but fails to acknowledge that for some reason I can’t fathom, this is the place she is embedded in. Our language, our houses and cities, our consumer goods and diet, fashion and technology. Aren’t they, by her choice to utilize these myriad resources, superior to whatever she has turned her back on in terms of where and how to live? Clearly the Western World is superior in that it is the human magnet of the planet. If this ‘supremacy’ that draws them is so powerful, why would you wish to dismantle it? And what, if it happens, do you imagine will replace it? And here’s another thing, all of those examples cited above are available in whatever nation on Earth you’d like to visit, including the homeland she talks about having visited, so be why here?

I agree with you on their inability to reach any common ground. Both of them look at an egg and one of them sees a bowling ball. Where do you go with these kinds of disconnects? And so, more importantly, how do you fix the problem between us? Neither see the same thing so there’s no way to even begin working on it. And both have distinctly different ends that are polar opposites.

This is an unsolvable problem.

yep I am continually amazed at how thick the delusion is right now. Even in the face of clearly observable facts folks like Ms. Rao cling doggedly to their ingrained programmed bias.

Today I have been on twitter. An equally useless platform. Tried reason with some person about the situation at Lincoln Monument last week. I gave her links to videos and the lot and even then she persisted in sticking to her premise.

That Nathan Philips did nothing wrong… I gave and while she did this…

“This is an unsolvable problem.”

It is a problem which has already been solved. Very few seem to care for the solution however.

Colossians 2:13 KJB… “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses;”

Knowing such forgiveness, how ought one to move forward in life?

Imagine if such a thing actually caught on and started to spread…

I watched the video last night and had two thoughts:

1.) She, like all other SJWs, define themselves by those whom they hate

and

2 .) The guy was calm, composed, and likeable (even serene), but, in my opinion, could have refuted her premises in better ways.

For example, instead of telling her that blacks were complicit in their own slavery, he should have asked her to explain why SJWs have expropriated civil rights from Christians like Martin Luther King jr. And William Wilberforce. Another tactic would have been to ask why SJWs embrace Islam over feminism.

At the very least, perhaps the conversation would have ended sooner; and the meltdown even more fun to watch

The story of the intersectionality of Nathan Philips and a young man from Covington High School, like a youtube interview I watched sometime ago, between Anti-Racism Activist Saira Rao and online personality Sargon of Akkad, would make a great radio spot for Radio and Paul Harvey.

Why, well  because now we know the rest of the story.

vvzz43554

The world is full of Inconvenient truths…

For eons the Professional Class in the Grievance Industry have failed to acknowledge a fact. The standard dogma, the drone, is that white people alone have systemically oppressed everyone else.

Not true
Not Black and White.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XoK7fQLCPw

Towards the end of interview the conversation turned to the story of Anthony Johnson and John Casor. Once introduced into conversation, Ms. Rao packed up and ran away. It was a fascinating example of the ill effects of cognitive dissonance.

The stories of these men, Johnson and Casor, are now lost to history but they should not be lost. As both men in their own ways were trailblazers of sorts. It is the grievance industry alone that never tires of preaching to anyone who will listen about the problematic nature of intersectionality. Well this is a story of two men whose lives and circumstances intersected, in a very profound way, in a civil suit filed long ago in the colony of Virginia.

In a far more progressive time.

Both men started their lives in Virginia as indentured servants. It was the case at the time that many souls of all races, black, brown, white and native, were brought to colony indentured to the land and forced to work a seven year term before gaining their freedom.

Mr. Johnson having the privilege of arriving first eventually gained his freedom. And once free from his indenture he moved on to operate his own a successful tobacco plantation. Becoming a very wealthy man for his time. He was the embodiment of the American dream.

Out of nothing he became a success…

John Casor on the other hand started as an indentured servant and ended it with his descendants slaves in perpetuity. His greatest accomplishment was losng a civil suit in 1655. Because of that he became the first man in the history of the America to be legally recognized as a slave, for himself and his descendants, in perpetuity.

It should surprise nobody that he was a Black Man.
So far so good and the narrative holds.

Ms. Rao ran away because Sargon was about to deliver the hook and her cognitive dissonance threatened to overwhelm her.

And another fable, maybe the biggest of all, was about to be deconstructed…..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9LtmcN1gvY

Why.. because Anthony Johnson, born long ago in what is today the country of Angola, was Black Man as well.

And now Ms. Rao
now you know
the rest of the story…

The two of you (Mags and Rob) are making me nervous. Leaving early tomorrow for a trip halfway across the country (by car) and I was already a bit unsettled. It doesn’t help that the full moon kept me awake half the night.

It seems the current focus of the Judeo-Marxists is Christian schools for whatever reason. Maybe because they are creating too many independent thinkers? Too many “conservatives?” Or maybe because they just don’t follow the public school programming. For whatever reason, this fits the common pattern of a narrative seeking an example. The media has their talking points and experts lined up and ready to pounce once the appropriate newsworthy item happens that reinforces and confirms their theme. In this case we can hope that they chose the example poorly, and that rather than making whites hate themselves even more than they do already this example will wake up many more to the fact that they are unaware participants in a war that is being waged upon them.

Shame on the school and the Walk for Life organizers for immediately jumping on the bandwagon. I predict this will be a hard lesson for these boys but maybe it will teach them not to trust anyone associated with the TPTB.

Already 2019 is shaping up to be very ugly.

trump could entertain them in the white house, and you’re correct,it would make the liberals heads explode–
if he would also play clips of the entire video of the incident & explain how this is an example of racist, fake news,he could probably win some people over to our side while slightly cowing leftist journalists–
he should also publicly invite the catholic hierarchy, both from the covington area, and the national catholic hierarchy so he can force them to either condone what the boys did,or show other catholics that they need to find another denomination–

HSF,

Amazing thoughts about how to live your life and Truth. Your insights to what I refer to as the HYPERSENSITIVE SOCIETY are prescient. Over the course of the past decade and a half social engineering agendas via PUBLIC schools and social media outlets (anti-Bullying and LGBTQLMNOP rights campaigns) have double-dosed the Millenial and Gen Zers into utilizing the power that resides within each of us as a victim. Many unsuspecting individuals have been conditioned to look for something to get offended about and immediately post it to social media where it has the opportunity to go viral. The rest is left to the BORG-MOB that I mentioned in my movie review of BIRD BOX. Remember the story from a couple years back where a shopper st Hobby Lobby was offended by this:
comment image

This dovetails into what you wrote:

You may be accused, they may selectively pick and choose what piece of information they want to show without any context and condemn you for motives based on something as vague as a nervous grin, like they did to this poor young man. You are only allowed to accept the scorn and if you do it fast enough with abject regret, perhaps apologize to people you’ve never met, for something you never intended. Each month it continues to ramp up, until the only smart move is to completely withdraw from the modern world.

The MOB sentenced Socrates to death and is a very effective tool used by the social engineers acting as the “unseen” government that Edward Bernays’ explained in his seminal book, “Propaganda”:

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an
important element in democratic
society. Those who manipulate this
unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the
true ruling power of our country.”

…..

I liken it to the “Eye of Sauron” from the Lord of the Rings realms.

Again, most excellent prose!

Has anyone here read Gulliver’s Travels? In his 3rd trip, Gulliver describes a strange, backwards land ruled by a new species of science taught at a new university by professors called “Projectors,” who teach that all existing science and tradition must be thrown away to make way for the new learning. Their buildings are decrepit, their farm fields are empty, and their clothes are all in rags, but they doggedly pursue greatness, which is only just around the corner.

Gulliver describes these people and their amazing, groundbreaking, futuristic concepts, which he knew were great, but admitted he wasn’t smart enough to really understand them or how they would succeed.

For instance, there was a man who had labored for years to take shit and transform it back into food by removing bile and saliva. (he was advised not to shrink away or even hold his nose when he met the shit-covered man) Another great thinker was working on a scheme to fill jars with cucumbers, which would be un-capped in cold weather to release their accumulated sunshine. Another great scientist was working to create new paint colors. He was blind, but he taught his blind students to create paint colors by touch and smell. Yet another genius was working on a giant mechanical frame with blocks printed with all the words of their language, which when moved by a team of 40 students, would re-settle into random patterns and any partial sentences or phrases collected for posterity. This machine was intended to let any man write great books about science or law or philosophy without so much as studying or preparing in any way.

This strange school of the absurd reminds me of liberalism today and I feel that Swift’s satire has unintentionally, and unimaginably, become real. Can you see liberals arguing blind men can be great painters? Or that with sufficient work, we can turn shit back into food for feeding the hungry? Or that we can collect sunshine in cucumbers for winter heating? Of course, that’s a far cry from their accusations of blacks being white supremacists or men being womxn. It all sounds believable. Worse, the hatred of the followers of this “new science” for their detractors is exactly the same as that held by modern liberals for we who know there is no way to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Wow. I had completely forgotten about travels to Laputia.

Thanks for the reminder of the fascinating lessons on viewpoint and perspective. That’s a definite 7-upper sort of clue.

https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/gulliver/section8/

I am digging out my old Gulliver’s Travels, folks. I’ve got some reading to do.

The king of Laputa hovers above his subjects on an island and he has NEVER been off the island. Like Gilligan or those Lost characters. It is a real venture into theoretical abstract thought, perhaps a little scattered for most, but there are some really insightful concepts Swift alludes to.

From the chapter summary linked above…

“Laputa is more complex than Lilliput or Brobdingnag because its strangeness is not based on differences of size but, instead, on the primacy of abstract theoretical concerns over concrete practical concerns in Laputan culture. Nonetheless, physical power is just as important in Laputa as it is in Lilliput and Brobdingnag. Here, power is exercised not through physical size but through technology. The government floats over the rest of the kingdom, using technology to gain advantage over its subjects. The floating island is both a formidable weapon and an allegorical image that represents the distance between the government and the people it governs. The king is oblivious to the real concerns of the people below—indeed, he has never even been below.”

“… he has never even been below.” Exactly. He can’t see from our point of view.
