‘Unplanned’ Box Office: Controversial Anti-Abortion Pic Surprises With Strong $6M Debut

Left wingers are so fucking stupid. Everything they try to censor or suppress becomes ten times more popular due to their ineptitude and idiocy. Twitter banned the Unplanned Twitter account and caused an uproar among conservative members. If the lefties had completely ignored this low budget movie, it would have been under the radar and not done well at the box office. The uproar from Planned Parenthood and their lefty sycophants has insured this movie will end up earning $50 million or more. Well done you dumbass liberal douchebags.

The R-rated pic scored the second-best start ever for faith-based distributor Pure Flix; tracking had suggested it would only earn around $3 million.

Graced with a coveted A+ CinemaScore, the controversial anti-abortion drama Unplanned opened to a strong $6.1 million from 1,059 theaters at the U.S. box office despite a relatively modest footprint.

The R-rated film — landing in fifth place — scored the second-biggest start ever for faith-based distributor Pure Flix behind God’s Not Dead 2 ($7.6 million). The Christian pic did its biggest business in the Midwest and South.

Generally, theaters in New York City and Los Angeles populate the list of a film’s top 20 grossing theaters. In this case, there were none. Instead, the top theater was the AMC Northpark 15 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, followed by cinemas in St. Louis; Detroit; Wichita, Kansas; Temecula in Southern California’s Riverside County; Salt Lake City; Orange County, California; Kansas City; Odessa, Texas; and Nashville.

“We are thrilled, gratified and humbled,” co-directors Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman said Sunday in a statement. “We are so pleased that the American people have responded with such an enormous outpouring of support at the box office. It humbles us and we look forward to seeing what happens in the weeks ahead.”

Heading into the weekend, tracking suggested a $3 million debut for Unplanned.

The pic tells the true story of Abby Johnson, who defected from Planned Parenthood to become a pro-life activist after witnessing an abortion at 13 weeks. Unplanned was partially financed by My Pillow founder Michael Lindell, who is a born-again Christian and outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump.

The film’s producers, who unsuccessfully fought to overturn the pic’s R-rating, note that Unplanned didn’t have an easy road to the big screen. A number of TV networks declined to play ads for the movie, while the film’s Twitter account was briefly suspended Saturday morning.

On Friday, trailer views hovered at around 250,000. That stat swelled to 1.7 million views by Saturday morning.

“To bring the story of Abby Johnson to audiences and have them show up in such large numbers shows how abortion is so important to bring to audiences,” said Pure Flix CEO Michael Scott. “We hope that those on both sides of the debate will see Unplanned and begin to have their own dialogue. This film can be that spark to bring more hearts and minds to understanding the value of life.”

Unplanned is set to move into a total of 1,700 theaters next weekend.

I was lucky enough to get invited to a private screening last week. A generous donor purchased enough tickets to fill 4 theaters and all of them were full. Donated proceeds from the audience went to a local Crisis Pregnancy Center that shares a parking lot with Planned Parenthood.

I am not sure I would disagree with the R rating.

I am betting this draws a big crowd at the local drive-in. Do you know… MC? There is actually a couple of them still open out here in the Ozarks. Along with some really awesome theaters in little valleys commonly called “hollers” around here. The acoustics are interesting.

The young man who tends our livestock and dogs lives a half mile away on a hill across the way. There are spots in my barnyard acoustically tuned to receive sound waves from spots in his family’s barnyard. Some mornings I hear his mother talking as if across the room from me. So, some of the hillbilly theaters do decent “event” business. Especially to the tent revivalist types.

MC, the R rating keeps the individuals that need to see the horrors and evil of abortion from learning exactly what happens during the procedure. By refusing to give it a PG-13 rating the leftist keep 13, 14, 15 and 16 year old girls from seeing the movie. Yet many 13, 14, 15 and 16 year old girls wind up pregnant. If a young woman saw this movie it might, just might, convince them to abstain from sex or to carry the child to term and offer it for adoption instead of murdering the baby.

in my opinion, NY and VA are both vile and evil fro passing laws that murder babies that are carried to term once they are born. This is outright 1st degree murder and should carry a mandatory death sentence upon conviction of such.

Those children, regardless of race, that are born should be offered for adoption if the mother doesn’t want them. They should not be killed!

It’s pretty graphic. All I can say is do not eat while you are watching this movie. It’s different than the usual gore that you see in the typical Hollywood crap. It is very realistic when they portray abortions both medical and chemical. I think teens should see it with their parents or someone older. There needs to be discussion afterword.

FYI–six million dollar is NOT good box office.
Not good for even a low budget film of any type.

It’s just a blip and will be largely ignored.
These movies play to a select choir who are primed and ready for its message.

You want to see a wide release–hijack a network satellite feed and run it.

It’s being released in limited theaters and will move directly to Red-Box and Netflix… if they decide to handle this picture that is.

I read somewhere the TV networks have refused to run the trailer – so it could be that word of mouth will give it more legs than most might guess? It also has a whopping 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. So there’s that too.

We’ll see what happens.

Anyway, ironically, I started a piece about this film last night and am about halfway done. If I’m able to finish it – meaning if it comes together to the extent I decide to post – then it should be up by tomorrow or the next day?

In the meantime, as a teaser, here is the title and the first few lines (as of now):

Five Insights Gleaned From The Movie “Unplanned”

Over the weekend, I was where I needed to pass some time and thought an early afternoon matinee would do the trick. Although I was not overly enthused to see any of the films currently showing, I chose to see “Unplanned”. Mainly because the title seemed apropos just then and the movie’s starting time fit my schedule. Moreover, it looked to be a political film about the controversial subject of abortion and was, in fact, based on a true story.

The tale told of the life and times of Abby Johnson, a headstrong young lady from Texas who became one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the United States…

As much as I delight in the left’s stupidity, it’s actually a two-edged sword. Yes, they do expose their inane ignorance to the minority of us that are woke, but that just cauterizes their stupidity and cements their bone-headedness.

You could cave in their heads with a two-by-four, but they’d never feel a thing and they’ll keep marching like the Energizer bunny. That makes them a formidable foe.
