Facebook Bans CrossFit Group For Advocating Low-Carb, High-Fat Diets

Authored by Timothy Meads via Townhall.com,

As conservatives warn of the dangers of Silicon Valley’s left-wing monopoly on political speech, one fitness and self-improvement company has jumped into the fray to discuss free speech on social media.

Crossfit, the high-intensity gym program, released a statement this past Thursday slamming Facebook for the unexplained removal of its content as well the company’s lack of self-responsibility as the “de facto authority over the public square, arbitrating a worldwide exchange of information as well as overseeing the security of the individuals and communities who entrust their ideas, work, and private data to this platform.”

“CrossFit is a contrarian physiological and nutrition prescription for improving fitness and health. It is contrarian because prevailing views of fitness, health, and nutrition are wrong and have unleashed a tsunami of chronic disease upon our friends, family, and communities,” the statement began. The company then says that millions who use CrossFit and share its methodology stand “against an unholy alliance of academia, government, and multinational food, beverage, and pharmaceutical companies.”

The company says that it encourages and supports its adherents to “speak openly and freely about the ideas and principles that animate our views of exercise, nutrition, and health.” In doing so, CrossFit has defended their beliefs “against overreaching governments, malicious competitors, and corrupt academic organizations.”

But, now Facebook has threatened that freedom, CrossFit argues. It all started when Facebook removed a group of CrossFitters with more than 1.65 million members without explanation. That group advocates low-carb, high-fat diets — something that not everybody in the health community agrees upon.

Due to this unexplained censorship, the company believes that “Facebook’s action should give any serious person reason to pause, especially those of us engaged in activities contrary to prevailing opinion.” The company notes the group was reinstated, but that was never explained either.

Due to Facebook’s prominence in the free exchange of ideas, the company says that their status “mandates a certain responsibility and assurance of good faith, transparency, and due process.”

Because they failed to live up to that mandate, the company has removed itself from Facebook and its sister social media site, Instagram.

“CrossFit, Inc., as a voluntary user of and contributor to this marketplace, can and must remove itself from this particular manifestation of the public square when it becomes clear that such responsibilities are betrayed or reneged upon to the detriment of our community.”

The statement then lists a litany of complaints which reads more like a Human Eventscolumn than one you might expect from a fitness group. These complaints include the fact that “Facebook collaborates with government security agencies on massive citizen surveillance programs such as PRISM,” as well as arguing that “Facebook is thus complicit in the global chronic disease crisis,” when it removes content.

The company’s warning and boycott serve as a reminder that Facebook, whether we like it or not, plays a massive and unparalleled role in the American way of life.

And this, friends, is called Pushback. Bravo, Crossfit.

A good friend’s daughter is a huge advocate of Crossfit. She’s solid. Well toned is an understatement.
She’ a very attractive, mid-30’s woman, and she is in better shape, and stronger that most men
her age and even younger. Her and her husband are enormously successful in business,
and it’s easy to spot their success, as they also enjoy and do not hide the materialistic pleasures of life
some people have, when money is no object.
I would love to be watching, if any SJW decides to target them when TSHTF and looting-attacking begins.
Oh, and they both carry. But, based on their strength and fitness, they wouldn’t need to resort to that.
They’d beat the hell out of anyone who messed w/ them or their kids.

Fat shaming is politically incorrect. Males with muscle equals masculine toxicity. Soy boy fakebook hates them. Surely some overzealous onese butch haired dike employee at fakebook got her/his feeling all butthurt and shut crossfit down. I do not support any business that uses fakebook as their website.

I have a hard time believing that Zuckerberg did Facebook on his own. He’s the bought and paid for face in collaboration with a deep state actor, most likely the CIA. How do you become worth billions when you can’t make a profit? Shit don’t add up… Chip

FB was Lifelog before being FB. The day Lifelog ended was the day FB came on line. Lifelog was created by DARPA.

Oh yeah. I’ll be using that one, James, when I try spreading some awareness to friends who tout it.

“What? Are you insane for giving up your privacy, all for ego, friends, and convenience? Ok, your choice, but don’t mention anything about me on Fecesbook. Nor post any group photo with me in it. Phock that!”

“Hello Crossfit, welcome to Gab and Dissenter!”

I have said it before: Facebook IS NOT the “town square” and anyone claiming that is bolstering Facebooks position beyond reality.

The fact is that a “town sqaure”, in the traditional menaing, no longer exists. There are millions of digital-town squares now. The “town square” has been decentralized and .gov-backed-facebooks don’t like that. Pick one, or several, alternatives and feel free to come and go as you please and say what you want without fear of being burned at the stake or beheaded by a mob or .gov goons.

Facebook is a Digital-Saudi-Arabia. Don’t grant it power by calling it the town square.

Also, from a business view, facebook could not be making a larger mistake. In the past, businesses NEVER even mentioned political view points or wanted anything to do with identity politics. A good business was concerned with only one thing: serving their paying customers (all else stems from that – growth, profit, etc.). Serving ALL their paying customers. If you can pay for it, you are a customer and what you do on your time is your business. If customers choose to engage in behavior that is admonished by other customers, they can duke it out separately in a different arena.

Any business that starts picking customers based on identity politics and political beliefs is on the back side of the life-cycle.

Strange. Now I’m torn between my dislike of snotty gym rats and my dislike of fakebook. What’s a guy to do?
