Who needs to disconnect now? According to a new study by Common Sense, teens are more likely to say that their parents spend too much time on their devices than the other way around.

About half of the teens surveyed for this report think that their parents spend too much time on their devices. In 2016, only about three in ten teens reported that same answer. On the flip side, back in 2016 about six in ten parents said that teens spend too much time on their devices. Only about 39 percent of parents think teens spend too much time plugged into their devices.

Both parents and teens probably could use less screen time overall. The study also found that a majority of parents and teens used their phone right before going to bed and right when waking up, habits that studies have found to be harmful.

Whoever wrote this article had zero reading comprehension. Total failure on all levels.

The text on the chart describing the percentages is wrong. It claims 52% of parents think teens spend too much time on their phones and 39% of teens think parents spend too much time on their phones.

That doesn’t match the text of the article that claims the reverse.

So the article isn’t consistent with its own graph claiming to be a visual representation of the contents of the article.

Beyond that, neither the chart nor the article matches the findings of the study they are reporting on.

The numbers they used from the study are for the self-reported feelings of each group that they themselves spend too much time on their phones. 52% of parents think that they spend too much time on their own phones. 39% of teens think they spend too much time on their own phones.

Now, to the actual subject of the article:

68% of parents “feel” teens spend too much time on their phones (up from 66% in 2016).
39% of teens “feel” parents spend too much time on their phones (up from 28% in 2016).
