40,000 Whiskey Barrels Ablaze As Fire Rages Through Jim Beam’s Kentucky Warehouses

In news that nobody wants to hear heading into an American holiday, a Jim Beam warehouse caught fire late on Tuesday, with alcohol fueling the flames and 40,000 barrels of whiskey possibly lost, according to CNN.

The warehouse was in Versailles, Kentucky and caught fire around 11:30 PM Tuesday night. 40 firefighters from five counties responded and a second warehouse also caught fire, but was later contained.

The initial warehouse has collapsed. It had held approximately 40,000 barrels of spirits and Woodford County Emergency Management Chief Drew Chandler called the warehouses “massive”, describing them as the same area as a football field, but 6 to 7 stories high.

Authorities think that lightning in the area on Tuesday could be responsible for the blaze. Chandler had said the fire was too big and too hard to get an investigator near it, and the flames continued on Wednesday.

He said:

“It’s purposefully being allowed to burn for several more hours. The more it burns, the less distilled spirits are in the debris.”

Allowing the fire to burn will prevent any runoff from “polluting” nearby sources of drinking water

How am I supposed to fix my “Breakfast of Champions” – Jim Beam and Lucky Charms – without the golden nectar?

Jim Beam should just sell bottles of Root Beer.

In small letters on the bottle; “jim beam root beer soda”.

In large letters underneath; “IDENTIFIES AS WHISKEY”.

I bought a six of Budweiser aged in Jack Daniels barrels. Just made the beer taste gamey.

Like sticking a frozen turd in chocolate fondue. Who the hell does that?
Good God, man … there’s way better beer you can buy for a dollar a can. Light lager isn’t a beer you age in barrels – that’s for better, higher ABV ales like porter and stout.

My all time favorite beer was Michelob Irish Red. After the furriners from Inbev bought out Anheuser Busch they dropped the craft beers. Almost as good as the Irish Red was their Marzen which is an Oktoberfest beer. Sam Adams has some decent stuff and I do like their Oktoberfest. I have had some good Ales from Goose Island too. I’m might drink a case a year total. No one will get rich making beer for me. 45 years ago was a different story. Probably for a lot of us. LOL!

Fill a tumbler with large ice cubes. Pour in original Crown Royal to glass 2/3 full. Add a splash, or fill remaining 1/3 with Canada Dry ginger ale, or Schweppes brand of same. Add a small lime wedge, and find a comfy chair to relax, outside in the shade.

Systems consisting of lightning rods, heavy copper wire, etc. are available for NOT A LOT OF MONEY. They are specifically designed to give lightning a rapid and safe path to ground and keep your building/house, etc. SAFE. Who in the hell runs the “risk assessment” and safety programs for this place? A few thousand dollars plus installation, all to save $40,000,000 in potential losses. That’s the kind of math even AOC or other politicians could figure out.

There are likely 3 primary threats to buildings in the area. Flooding (but you know if you are anywhere near even record flood areas), tornadoes (not something you can really prepare for, and above ground storage in that heat and cold is part of the “magic” of aging any distilled spirit, and lightning. What the hell?

Exactly what I was thinking. I would hate to be Jim Beam’s Loss Prevention Manager or the 3rd party property insurance inspector. Their insurance rates will go up!

You guys are buying “the narrative” . . . does not mean that “lightning” – even of the Judaic variety – is the ACTUAL cause. Breathe. Breathe. Wait for it . . .

and remember . . . after the towers collapsed, how long was it before they found the passports? Just asking. . . .

Industrial espionage, a new Cary Nation, etc. is certainly a possibility and my first thought. But THEY are saying lightning and CAN say lightning because they DON’T have a lightning abatement system on the buildings. So arson or not, not having such a system in a wooded area that gets plenty of lightning, is just plain stupid (penny-wise and pound-foolish as they would say in times of old). And not having a sprinkler system or similar if you have no other fire prevention controls, is also stupid. And what permanent war against “terrrizm” are they planning on waging based on these “attacks?”

The stuff is highly flammable and the evaporated part they refer to as the Devil’s Cut could easily be touched off by lightning or some nimrod smoking or any number of things.
Pretty obvious this was no “high end” facility.

This is the worst thing since the Italian earthquake of 2012, which resulted in the Great Parmesan Cheese Shortage.

Wanda- This has happened before, once the hooch goes up in flames it is hard as hell to get it under control. People are surprised that there are actually deaths of the fellows who clean the bourbon vats, they are drunk as a skunk by the time they get it clean but on occasion one will die. Making hooch is a dangerous business.
