By Steve Candidus (Steve C.)
The Christmas season is a time for us all to stop even if just for a few weeks and remember the truly important things in life. A time to step away from the day-to-day worries and frustrations that distract us from what really matters. Friends, family, our spirituality, and our true place in all things on this planet that we share with billions of other souls.
This has been a rough and tumble year for all of us and the true meaning of things often gets lost in all the scurry and strife. So let us not sweat the small stuff for a few weeks and just kick back and enjoy in the spirit of the season regardless of our troubles and our differences.
Since music is here to soothe our souls, I would like to share a few of my own favorite Christmas songs and encourage everyone to post in the comments your favorites to share with our ‘Big Family’ here at TBP.
As the song says, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams:
This is my favorite version of “Silver Bells”. Martina McBride sings it here:

Here’s a new favorite for all the hopeless romantics out there, Lady Antebellum’s version of “All I Want for Christmas is You”:
And what would Christmas here in Texas be without our own favorite son George Strait singing “When it’s Christmas Time in Texas”:
Merry Christmas everyone.

Funny, every alleged Christmas song mentioned had nothing with christ.
I encouraged everyone to add whatever they liked…
Christ
Maybe because it’s been largely a pagan holiday since before the supposed birth of the Jesus character?
Just like Bing Crosby recorded it.
Good one Donkey…
Good stuff, and I especially enjoyed hearing George Strait. Thanks!
My favorite in any language:
Karla Bonoff
I like Karla Bonoff. Especially her song “Home”.
Here’s another version of your choice that I particularly like.
Celtic Women singing “The First Noel”:
Wonderful songs. Thanks for this post.
One of me favorites,by Tull of course!Jack Frost And The Hooded Crow:
Christmas songs from the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. My kind of music! (Warning: It’s an hour long.)
Vic – I knew that you would like this post. I love all of the Christmas song compilations and the one you just posted is great.
Most of the ones that I’ve saved are saxophone based though because I played the saxophone in various bands for almost 30 years. I played alto, tenor, baritone, and C-Melody Alto/Tenor Saxes. I was never a very good guitar player (I played rhythm guitar) and the only leads I ever took were with the sax since I was much more proficient with it.
Kenny G (he looks like a cocker spaniel) is an excellent sax player, but I just never warmed up to the soprano sax – especially the straight soprano that he usually uses. They always sound a bit ‘quacky’ to me. I think that the curved soprano sounds better, but it’s still not a favorite of mine.
Here he is playing “Silver Bells” on a tenor sax. It’s a nice rendition and I like the sound much better with the tenor sax:
Thanks for commenting. I hope you have a Merry Christmas.
I really do love that old music!
Kenny G has nice music as well. You can’t be a sax, especially in instrumentals.
A favorite of mine.
Jon understood the truth Great man They couldn’t let him live sadly
Yes. And I still say the Feds did him in. His message of peace wasn’t acceptable to their money grubbing hands.
And let us not forget the Wolfman. I would listen to his show on Armed Forces Radio before I saw him in American Graffiti.
Thanks, Steve. I love this song by TSO and the singer Jennifer Cella. Great voice control and a beautiful woman.
TNP – Thanks. That was nice. I had never heard of her or them.
I had to crank the volume up to maximum and it still needed a bit more to really appreciate her voice though.
And as you said, she’s not too hard to look at either.
I’ll have to check them out.
Another of my favorites, sung by Karen Carpenter. In my opinion, she’s one of the best female singers. A lovely voice. And yes, it’s secular not holy.
Indeed She’s as good as gold Bless her in heaven

One of my all time favorite carols, Iska.
Me too. Josh Groban has an amazing version as well.
I usually prefer traditional carols but this newer one became one of my favorites.
This is my brothers Christmas light set up and this year he’s adding the Lucy Linus song, my request. It’s a pretty cool set up as you sit in your car and tune your radio to 90.3FM and listen to show at the top of the hour. I think he has 25k lights now and 6 songs. There’s a street lamp that you don’t see because he has a laser mounted on the roof that turns it off when the show starts and comes back on afterwards.
I hope you enjoy it.
Eyes Wide mentioned Jesus not mentioned in a lot of songs,so,another favorite Christmas song, once again,Tull of course:
,
These beggining lines should cover his concerns:
Once in Royal David’s City stood a lowly cattle shed, where a mother laid her baby. You’d do well to remember the things He later said. When you’re stuffing yourselves at the Christmas parties, …
This one always makes me cry. I can’t identify why.
