What NEW music are you listening to now?

I recently had a conversation about music with a client. We were wondering where people find great music nowadays. We know you aren’t going to find it on the radio. Yojimbo has posted some music I really liked.

What NEW music are your old asses listening to right now?

Me?

My music has to have 4 things.

1) badass guitar
2) made up of white people.
I can’t relate to anything but
Straight up rock and roll
Although, badass blues work
Also.
3) tension and release
4) a good hook

“Long Way To Go”
There’s something going down on the streets right now
Hate in the air we’re upside down, yeahGuns and bombs blood on the floor
Killing ourselves and there ain’t no cureMaybe tomorrow, maybe today…No more enemies
No more anarchy
Just more suffering

We got a long way to go
And no time to get there
One step forward two steps back
There ain’t nobody to blame

Something’s going on times are changing
Moving too fast we all gone crazy
Black man white man no despise
In the name of love open your eyes

Maybe tomorrow, maybe today…

No more love and hate
No more hope and faith
No more time to waste

We got a long way to go
And no time to get there
One step forward two steps back
We’re stuck in the middle
And way off track

We got a long way to go
And no time to get there
Say what you will
Do what you want
There ain’t nobody to blame

You did say NEW music… None. Nun. But I do keep a station streaming that plays so much good old stuff that nobody’s heard in years…. Won’t post a link as that’s unseemly, but it’s called “The Gamut”.. ‘Bout every 4th or 5th thing they play is good enuf to get me up outta my chair…. Outta Frederick MD

Listened to quite a few of these songs, I guess my days of hard driving R&R are long gone. My tastes these days run to what’s called house music. Certainly not for everyone. Here’s some Satin Jackets

Roosevelt is good too

Donkey – Thx for asking for new music. There is some interesting music being posted here! I can tell that most here don’t much care for the “music” being played on US radio stations these days.

Try this.

Or, to highlight Floor’s vocals, here is something different. Each year, there is a Dutch show that invites Dutch vocalists from various genres, where they sing each other’s songs or types of songs to each other. Here is Floor and Henk Poort (who DOES sing opera) doing a duet of Phantom of the Opera. Yes, Floor could do opera, but chooses to do metal instead with Nightwish.

How about this? Pipes and guitar duet?

This is why I like Nightwish. They are all very talented musicians, their music is fairly complex (almost all written by the keyboardist, a genius) and their songs are NOT all the same. Not one instrument overpowers the others; they are all used.

What the heck, another one to highlight Floor’s vocals.

One last one here – Greatest Show on Earth, done at Wembley 2015. Yes, it is 18 minutes long, so be patient, it takes time to unfold. The gentleman joining them on stage at the end is indeed Richard Dawkins, who provided the voice during the song (at the 17 min point) and wrote the book of the same name.

And, yes, Nightwish is great in concert. What I like, actually, is that since NW is relatively unknown here in the US, when they do come through on tour, the venues are small.

Enjoy!

Relatively new from “Poets of the Fall”. Also from Finland. Coincidence?

Slightly older from a concert in Moscow.

Entire concert, if anyone is interested. Some good stuff.
