Man handcuffed in front of daughter at Colorado park for allegedly ...

BRIGHTON, Colo. (KDVR) — Matt Mooney feels Brighton police owe him a huge apology. The 33-year-old says he was handcuffed at Donelson Park in front of his 6-year-old daughter Sunday afternoon after police told him he violated the state’s social distancing guidelines.

Mooney told the FOX31 Problem Solvers he refused to provide his identification to three police officers because he was confident he wasn’t doing anything unlawful by playing tee-ball with his wife and daughter at the park.

“She’s like, ‘Daddy, I don’t want you to get arrested.’ At this point I’m thinking, ‘There’s no way they’re going to arrest me, this is insane.’ I’m telling her, ‘Don’t worry, Daddy’s not going to get arrested. I’ve done nothing wrong. Don’t worry about it,’ and then they arrest me.”

Former Brighton City Councilman Kirby Wallin recorded much of the incident on his cellphone, where you can hear his voice narrate the scene.

“He’s being taken by the Brighton police for playing softball with his daughter in an empty park,” Wallin said.

In an interview with the Problem Solvers, Wallin said, “I find it hard to believe with all the things going on in our communities, the only way to resolve a situation like this was to handcuff a father in front of his daughter.”

The sign at Donelson Park said “Closed” but in smaller print reads, “in groups of no more than 4 persons, parks remain open for walking, hiking, biking, running and similar activities.”

Mooney was just there with his wife and daughter. He said it was the officers who were violating social distancing guidelines.

“During the contact, none of the officers had masks on, none of them had gloves on, and they’re in my face handcuffing me, they’re touching me,” he said.

Mooney said he was released after spending about 10 minutes in the back of a patrol car but said he still deserved an apology.

“If we’re going to go ahead and start arresting people for no reason in front of their 6-year-old daughter, you’re just going to cause more problems later on,” he said.

Brighton police posted a vague statement on its Facebook page Sunday night that made no mention of Matt Mooney or his arrest.

Instead, it simply stated, “The Brighton Police Department is conducting an investigation into a situation that occurred late this afternoon at Donelson Park. This is an active investigation and so we are unable to provide additional information until the investigation is complete.”

The Problem Solvers emailed follow-up questions to a Brighton Police Department spokesperson asking if it was the officers’ conduct and judgment, regarding Mooney’s short-lived arrest, that was being investigated. As of Monday evening, we have not received a reply.

Don’t feed any govt. employee if you have a farm and they proved prior to a crisis that they were “just following orders”. Farmers shall have the power. Smart farmers shall have the power and the ability to enforce it with a strong, local community.

That’s the justice part. The mercy part is to feed their families because they cannot be held responsible for the sins of the father.

“Smart farmers shall have the power and the ability to enforce it with a strong, local community.”

is that the case historically?

Define “historically”. If by “historically” you are referring to “typical cycles”, then absolutely not. If by “historically” you are referring to “grand cycles”, then absolutely. What I should probably define is the role of the landowner versus the serf.

Who is really the farmer? The landowner, or the former suburban homeowner working the landowner’s farm in exchange for wages and food?

a better question is who is the landowner. and the answer is whoever can take control of the land and keep workers on it – and it’s not likely that the present nominal owners will be able to do that. it’s unlikely that police et al (especially as typically described here on this board) can be shut out of that by farmers/landowners/serfs. a better option would be to hire them to defend the nominal landowners from the competition. (which is why seven samurai came to mind.)

Partially agree. Hire only those who weren’t compromised before SHTF. Those who were compromised have already shown their true colors. And everything I need to know about who one associates with I learned in kindergarten.

There’re a lot of things I concern myself with. Worrying about one or two evil meatheads is not one of them. These aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed. Worrying about a GANG of them is another story entirely.

I do believe America is going to find out the hard way how thin of a veneer civilization is.

“Sins of the father.”

Cuckoldry is a problem. Lots of apples don’t fall far from the tree. How is it that popo started a family and I did not. What is innocence? Every child has adult potential. Nature is a bitch. I’d like to reproduce. I’d like my kind of people to reproduce. Resources are limited. No good deed goes unpunished precisely because of Western Christian charity. At some point it’s important to vet who and what people are. Christianity in theory does not allow for that, and the practice is defined by its wanting. To help the antithetical is treason.

The Constitution takes my position and applies it to politicking. The treason was in fact committed by the father and ends with him. The total reflection of God requires both justice and mercy. It is a delicate balancing act that very few people save perhaps Solomon, Caesar, and Aurelius understood.

AoC, who will you trust with that delicate balancing act? Clearly, we don’t have a Solomon or Caesar on a particularly good day. That sort of safety margin is negative in the real world. Conditions on the ground will dictate many things whether we see the choices under such circumstances or not.

It’s good that you are friendly with the local police.
It’s also good that people keep pit bulls as loyal, loving pets, but I’ve heard more than one story of a pit bull eating a housewife, and I’ve heard as many stories of very nice, upstanding horrific humans that wear a badge and gun.
People ain’t dogs, and not every LEO is bad. But the LEO is supposed to always be better than a dog.
Luck of the draw, but always keep a sidearm to shoot that dog that killed your wife…or your Liberty.

Farmers have all the power? Hardly. Think FDR in the Depression or Stalin and the Kulaks (who were farmers, BTW) think holodomor, think Monsanto and big Ag buying out small farmers and then think about bank foreclosures and children forced to sell the farm because of taxes and bank liens.

Read the entire thread. Where we’re headed, arable landowners will be kings. This is a once in a 300-500 year (Armstrong thinks 309.6 year, so his timeline fits) opportunity. I could pay my mortgage off tomorrow if I was stupid enough to not keep such a low fixed rate. Basically, my day job has been funneled into the typical familial expenses but also into my land. I can see why suicide rates are so high in the farming community. It is hard work, it is time-consuming, and it is expensive. I’ve been blessed to be able to afford paying for it while gainfully employed.

If I could change just one attribute of the average American, it’d be to endow them with the knowledge to grow their own food. And as soon as possible so as to get the mistakes out of the way while we have the world’s reserve currency.

Farmers are essential.
As are waste treatment plant operators, steam plant/ power operators, water works, refrigeration, carpenters, electricians…..
They will be the essential people of the future.
Not the tattoo artist.
I get enormous satisfaction growing the few items I do, but I’m new to it and like anything else, get better with the mistakes.

In another week or so, cops are going to start getting shot over bullshit like this, and I do not mean in the diverse urban parts of the nation. The coppers are not even bothering to spend time in the ghettos and barrios, they leave that crew alone.

Police: you boys better remember what you took an oath to do. I know you want “your” job, and “your” pension, but this really is a completely different game. If you are on the wrong side of it, that is going to be that. Your co-workers will probably get the guy (he will be a regular looking dude) who caps you, but you will still be dead. The only way to avoid being on the wrong side is to quit or refuse orders to enforce laws and “executive orders” which you know to be wrong. This is all the warning you are likely to get.

You have to understand that cops are basically morons. In fact you cannot pass the police screenings if your IQ is too high. They are basically school yard bully psychopaths who react like rabid dogs if they are challenged in any way.
We may need law enforcement, but our system is seriously broken, and what we have is a clusterfuck.

Christians were arrested in North Carolina for standing much further apart, dozens of yards, protesting an abortion clinic which was allowed to remain open and perform only one “service”. Do you know what the dad above and those believers have in common? Neither was armed. It’s time to use your second to protect your first.

I have mentioned repeatedly I am behind enemy lines here in CO. It is not a Sea of Red with Blue enclaves along the coasts. A firebase has been planted right in the center of the country, coincidentally in the Capital for any continuance contingencies.
Arrests do need to be made here, The Governor, and Mayor of Denver would be a small but great start.

I lived in Northglen about 40 years ago. CO was a great place full of conservatives with lots of freedom. Not sure when the influx of Califonicators began, but it started going downhill as soon as they arrived and brought their needs for bigger government with them. We have kids and grandkids living in the Denver area now and when we go visit, it is much like visiting CA.
