America 2020: Déjà vu All Over Again

It was a presidential election and, oh, what a tumultuous year it was. The country never seemed more divided.  Both parties were unwilling to accept defeat. More than a few threatened civil war if their candidate wasn’t seated in the White House. The economy was a wreck. Pissed off citizens, armed with guns, took to the streets. Citizens died. Protests abounded in many major American cities. There was widespread accusations of voter fraud and intimidation. Most newspapers printed fake news – no matter which side they were on – as each candidate was fundamentally flawed (amongst millions of citizens, this was the best each party could come up with??). To make matters even worse, the guy who actually  lost would become president.

Is that America in the 21st century? Nope. It’s a description of the 1876 presidential election; Republican Rutherford B. Hayes vs. Democrat Samuel Tilden.

How the 1876 Election Tested the Constitution and Effectively Ended Reconstruction - HISTORY

Sam Tilden actually won BOTH the popular vote and the Electoral College. However, Florida (and a few other Southern states) claimed voter fraud and invalidated enough Democratic votes to seat Rutherford Hayes as president. Deja’ vu.

The Democrats actually made plans for a counter-inauguration for Tilden in Manhattan. They planned to seize the federal treasury building to fund a shadow government via customs revenues. They envisioned that Democratic state militias would invade Washington and throw Hayes out of office; “a little bit of war to inaugurate Mr. Tilden would do us no harm.”

Of course, Hayes supporters weren’t just going to lie down and play dead. One Texas politician pledged “thousands of ex-soldiers to fight for the Republican candidate.

Of course, we know the outcome. But, it does indicate that the times we are living in today aren’t unique … or, minimally, not as extraordinary as we are led to believe.  Can it be that we have a nostalgia for a golden age of national unity that never existed? We have this powerful notion that we are a nation of the Very Many who peacefully melded into One People.  Is it possible that this is just a myth … that it is as Trump said in his very first press conference in 2017: “I didn’t come along and divide this country. This country was seriously divided before I got here.”?

I don’t mean to be a historical revisionist but, is it possible that the idea of “disunion” — that this grand experiment is doomed to fail — has been lurking in our past from the very beginning? There is at least some evidence that it has.

The famous duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton wasn’t just about their mutual animosities toward each other. History shows that it was about a volatile and furious debate whether or not the United States should remain a single nation or be broken into two nations. Burr was approached be a bunch of New England politicians and businessmen who feared losing power in the rapidly expanding country. They thought it would be a good idea to secede and form their own “Northern Confederacy” …. with Burr as president.   When Hamilton caught whiff of this conspiracy he denounced Burr as a threat and a traitor.  That’s rather ironic because in his last letter just a week before the famous duel, Hamilton himself wrote that, “breaking up the United States would spark a rebirth of American democracy“!

And what about Thomas Jefferson who said he hoped the United States would stay united “if it be for their own good. But, separate them if it be better.“!  He was literally OK with two Americas being peacefully broken up “as long as the principles on which it had been founded endured“.  Apparently, a single sea-to-sea nation wasn’t a top priority for the nation’s third president.

Not even foreign collusion (!!!) is new to our times. Jefferson’s critics accused him of “taking orders” from Napoleon.  Napoleon (the Putin of that era) was accused of sowing chaos in America in order to destroy us.  His theory was that America’s size would be its undoing because joining so many diverse people over vast and complex geographical systems would be completely impossible with democratic self-government.  He only agreed to the sale of the Louisiana Purchase because “America’s ungainly size will lead to her demise … this swollen Union will collapse under the weight of its own contradictions“.

There was even ridiculous race-baiting way back then. In the 1896 Democratic Convention there was a fellow named “Pitchfork Ben” Tillman who told the frenetic crowd that he would fight for the “emancipation of white slaves“.

Yes, we’ve been through this before.

Nothing New Here — Steemit

The question is, should that make us feel better? Should we believe that just because we survived very similar issues back then, that we’ll be just fine now?  Would America have broken up in 1876 if there was Twitter? Are these even relevant questions?

Or, should we be asking ourselves an even more fundamental question;

—— Is this Union worth preserving and, if so, why?? —–

The answer to that question — not whether it will be Trump or Biden as president — which will determine America’s future.

Uh, the Republicans, for all their present gayness, kept the Demo-Commie revolutionaries of the day at bay from Reconstruction through about 1910. Think Teddy Roosevelt timeframe.

The 1910 midterms remain the all time Blue wave Republican slaughter with +57 Democrat House seats gained. The country never quite recovered, and with exception of the LDS, religion in America began it’s precipitous decline. That was 110 years ago in November.

1896 also happens to be the year Utah territory was held hostage until State indoctrination aka “free education” was adopted as a condition of statehood.

And yet, Winnie, the 1900’s saw the birth of the Pentecostal movement. It was also the birth of the electronics era. Most of the electronic devices that we are familiar with were invented after 1900. Radio and television became part of daily life and by the fifties Americans laughed at themselves with the idea that they were living in the stone age of modernity while envisioning a Jetson’s future.

While they fantasized about a perfect modern suburban lifestyle with shows like Lassie and Father Knows Best, there was still that pesky past to deal with. TV shows like Gunsmoke brought it to life and Americans worried that the cushy lifestyle was but a pipedream of peace in our time. They elected a young president who promised to lead them to a new frontier but then his successor took the country back to war.

Why not? War had made this country as Teddy Roosevelt proved. In the previous century, America and Argentina were economic equals but America’s leadership chose an interventionist policy that bought her power and hegemony.

There will always be those who want to return America to a time of the Little House on The Prairie or The Waltons or Leave it To Beaver eras but no time is perfect as painted in the memory hole. A wise man once said, “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” Except for the negative Nancys who would take us back to Jim Crow days, the rest of us have turned our back on the past and, like the pilgrims, look forward to the future come what may.

War had made this country

I don’t think this is right, properly war made the government and the government has decided the people are the enemy to be subdued. The pursuit of that war is where we are at. I am with you on looking forward to the future, we can make it if we will dare to.

If Ice-9 didn’t say it, I must have understood that the history of America is the history of war and the end of history is the end of war. Thirteen tiny colonies managed to take over the land from the eastern seaboard to the western shore by conquest, war and land purchases. Then, in the 1900’s by intervening in the European wars.

Amazed at how hung up you are on Gayness, Winnie. You seem to be consumed with boy butt sex. Why is that? Asking for a Lesbian trapped in a man’s body… And your reading of history circa 1910 is bullshit. The Solid Democrat South was in no way Commie-Revolutionary from Reconstruction to 1910, or beyond. The South was Reactionary. Conservative. Patriotic. Democrat. Lots of good dead white patriotic Protestant Democrat Southerners buried around the world from the Marne to Omaha Beach to Arlington fighting for the Constitution and America disprove your view of Reconstruction and the Democrat Party from 1865 to 1910. Tens of thousands of dead Southern Democrats fighting against Fascism and Communism in every fucking 20th Century war we had thru Vietnam lie in graves all across the world. The Republicans of 1865 were carpetbagging, money grubbing, thieving Yankees.

Taken at face value, this was quite the history lesson for me. I just did a quite search to find the national debt in 1876, slightly more than a decade after the civil war, was listed as $2,180,395,067.15…so there’s one big diff:

https://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt_histo2.htm

We have also been the beneficiaries of nearly 5 decades of the deliberate dumbing down of the populace:

https://archive.org/details/DeliberateDumbingDownOfAmericaCharlotteIserbyt

Of course, I’ve been saying for a long time-this nation was founded for the very purpose of ‘burning down’; to establish a return to the age when gods co-mingle with men.

Is this Union worth preserving and, if so, why??

No, not at all. And the more energy that is expended to hold the thing together, the worse off we’ll all be when it inevitably breaks up due to the laws of nature.

Nobody
Nobody

The “Union” is actually division. The government supporters are the ones who drew up all the boundaries to make their fiefdoms. It’s all driven by fear because people don’t want to take responsibility for their protection, knowing and upholding the law, building the infrastructure that suits their needs. The westward expansion of the government was actually preceded by independent people seeking freedom, escaping the insanity of authoritarian control freaks. The control freaks saw opportunity to come in and take over what others had built. The disease of control freaks continues to this day and all the people who vote or participate in any way are just as guilty as the control freaks they support. There are not enough free-thinkers, responsible people, to overcome the hoards of mindless supporters of criminal control freaks. The burning cities, division, war, surveillance state, police state is all consequences of those irresponsible ‘government’ supporters. Seeing the carnage that ‘government’ (organized crime) and their supporters have caused so many times over, the burning, looting, currency destruction, enslavement is only karma for how they have chosen slavery instead of freedom. I welcome the divine justice levied upon the voters as much as I do the control freaks themselves, both are guilty of destroying and enslaving their neighbors.

Glad your back, Stuck.

Yes, America’s ideological divide has always existed; but, perhaps, in our time, the divisions have finally reached critical mass.

Certainly, the nation will hold together or break apart.

And maybe either result will serve as the answer to your question. In other words, if the country holds together it was worth preserving. If not, it wasn’t.

Or maybe there are no answers, only choices.

Just typin’ out loud over here…

Harry Schultz, old timer financial guru and adviser, argued having 2000 counties rather than 200 or so would allow all tribes, cults, religions to have their own country, think Kurds, or Jains or Sikhs of BLM or San Francisco or Tajikistan…..No one country would have enough troops or power to attack the others…..no strength through diversity…..One worlders would have a hard time consolidating….Local rule…..50 states have saved this country from some pretty bad ideas….50 countries, why not?….Red states would prosper unbelievably………….

Frank
Frank

One issue with that splitting up idea:
The power hungry idiots, who can’t stand the idea of people existing that they can’t order around, will bring back the wars of conquest that eventually led to the nation-states we have today.
You know they will flock to the prosperous states and declare themselves to be the mostest red-staters that ever existing.
Unless there is a better citizenship awareness program that the one the U.S. originally had it place, I’m afraid it will turn into just another trip around the merry-go-round.

Articles of Confederation

Nope, you’re correct. No matter what better world will be envisioned, Man will fuck it up at some point. And that’s OK. The trick, as Jefferson and Franklin most especially knew, was that it is imperative to give posterity a fighting chance.

The smaller and less complex the machine, the easier it is to maintain.

Articles of Confederation

Unrealistic and idealistic. There is a balance between imperialism and anarcho-libertarianism. Harry Schultz was starting at his ideal endpoint and working backwards. Human nature doesn’t work like that.

TS

Knowing human nature, there’s no doubt in my mind that there were those who began plotting on how to subvert the newly written constitution before the ink was even dry, for their own gain.
The history of the US is no different than the history of the entire world; it always comes to this. To me, one of the most glaring differences is that now everything is so globally intertwined, what would have been a blip on the world’s radar then now has the potential – inevitability, to my mind – to be a global catastrophe. Back in the mid/late- 1800s, if the US failed or split into 2 or more groups of states, it wouldn’t have had a huge impact on the rest of the world. It would’ve just been an opportunity for other countries to manipulate/control/loot whatever remained. And whomever wanted to, could’ve run to somewhere else and started over. Now, there’s no place left to go. Practically every other spot on the globe, with a few minor exceptions of isolated areas, is worse off than the US is.
To paraphrase the NWO phrase into it’s proper perspective; think global disintegration, not local.
And I agree with all the other bible-reading Christians on here; there’s far more going on than just the unending cycle of human history. It all fits too neatly together for me to dismiss.
It doesn’t matter if I think this country should or should not be saved; it’s already dead. And there’s only one entity that could resurrect it, just as He did Lazarus. Unfortunately, for far too many people, it’s going to be a world-wide resurrection, and the child-birth pangs we see now are just the first convulsions. What follows is going to a remarkably painful delivery.
Just my $0.02 worth.

Yes, this is all part of the Fourth Turning, turning…

Articles of Confederation

Brilliant and well-said. I am not Catholic (anymore) but I do believe the Third Secret of Fatima conveyed an otherwise unreleased but catastrophic future. Fr. Malachi Martin spoke of Russia and Kiev’s role in it and the fact that he certainly wouldn’t have chosen Russia to play a role in that future, but that God has His own ways.

flash
flash

For the record. Malachi Martin was a paid agent of B’nai B’rith and the American Jewish Committee .I wouldn’t trust a word out of his mouth or pen.

Articles of Confederation

Maybe, maybe not. But the preponderance of the evidence is pretty astounding. When taking what he said, what was already known about the consecration of Russia to the Sacred Heart, the fact that it wasn’t released by 1960, and the Pope’s capitulation that “if it wasn’t released fully or in a timely manner, then it was to protect the flock” (or along those lines), then something smells rotten in Denmark.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence what’s been happening in Kiev since 2014. And we’re not on the side of justice in that matter. The United States needs to get kicked in the teeth, good and hard. The story of Sodom and 5 good people comes to mind.

IN the 1876 election, it came down to the State of Florida’s electoral votes to decide the Presidency. The party of Hayes made an agreement with the Florida legislature that if they voted for Hayes, when elected Hayes would pull Federal troops out of the South. These troops had been enforcing the civil rights and the civil liberties of the Blacks from the end of the Civil War. When elected Hayes did remove the troops and Reconstruction ended. So did the freedoms of the Blacks in the South and Jim Crow laws were enforced. This had the effect of making Blacks little more than indentured servants.

https://www.etymonline.com/word/nation

nation (n.)

c. 1300, nacioun, “a race of people, large group of people with common ancestry and language,” from Old French nacion “birth, rank; descendants, relatives; country, homeland” (12c.) and directly from Latin nationem (nominative natio) “birth, origin; breed, stock, kind, species; race of people, tribe,” literally “that which has been born,” from natus, past participle of nasci “be born” (Old Latin gnasci), from PIE root *gene- “give birth, beget,” with derivatives referring to procreation and familial and tribal groups.

The word is used in English in a broad sense, “a race of people an aggregation of persons of the same ethnic family and speaking the same language,” and also in the narrower sense, “a political society composed of a government and subjects or citizens and constituting a political unit; an organized community inhabiting a defined territory within which its sovereignty is exercised.”

Are These Antifa/ BLM Riots A Jewish Coup?
By
Kevin MacDonald
on 09/12/2020

So how to conceptualize Jewish involvement? As documented in my book The Culture of Critique, Jews have been the backbone of the American Left since they arrived in America and are central to the new elite that emerged in the counterculture of the 1960s. The Frankfurt School, largely shaped by Jewish refugees from Hitler, reconceptualized anti-Semitism as resulting, not from class conflict as orthodox Marxism had claimed, but from ethnic conflict. Similarly, Jewish activism in the post-World-War-II U.S. focused on importing non-Whites as allies of Jews in opposition to the traditional White American majority. Hence the critical role of Jews and Jewish organizations in the passage of the 1965 Immigration Act.

Jews and Jewish organizations have allied themselves with Blacks since the early twentieth Century with the founding of the NAACP. And, despite a substantial history of Black anti-Semitism (e.g., Louis Farrakhan, the recent spate of attacks on Orthodox Jews in New York, anti-Jewish statements by Black media figures like Nick Cannon—who also thinks Blacks are superior to White people but only apologized to Jews), this alliance continues into the present.

Becoming a modern society is about industrialization, urbanization, and rising levels of literacy, education, and wealth. The qualities that make a society Western, in contrast, are special: the classical legacy, Christianity, the separation of church and state, the rule of law, civil society…People define themselves in terms of ancestry, religion, language, history, values, customs, and institutions. They identify with cultural groups: tribes, ethnic groups, religious communities, nations, and, at the broadest level, civilizations. People use politics not just to advance their interests but also to define their identity. We know who we are only when we know who we are not and often only when we know whom we are against… There can be no true friends without true enemies. Unless we hate what we are not, we cannot love what we are. These are the old truths we are painfully rediscovering after a century and more of sentimental cant. Those who deny them deny their family, their heritage, their culture, their birthright, their very selves! They will not lightly be forgiven.
