LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — A 10-month-old baby girl is dead in Lower Providence after authorities said her father raped her and waited nearly an hour to call 911 after she stopped breathing. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele called the case “deeply disturbing.”
Austin Stevens, 29, is charged with aggravated assault, rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, and related counts. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office determined that the baby suffered sexual trauma and blunt force trauma to the head. A specific cause of death is pending.
“It’s hard to imagine this child’s death being any more traumatic,” Steele said.
The incident occurred on Saturday in Stevens’ home on the 3400 block of Germantown Pike.
After the assault, from around 9:27 p.m. to 10:22 p.m., Stevens performed numerous Google searches on his phone, including “If baby stop breathing,” “What if you don’t hear baby heart or beat,” “My baby isn’t breathing,” and “How do you know if a bsby is dead,” according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
While he was browsing the Internet, he also chatted over text and Instagram with two different women, and the conversations were not related to the baby or any emergency issues, according to a criminal complaint.
Stevens called 911 and police arrived at around 10:40 p.m., officials said. The baby was taken to the hospital and declared dead.
Bail was set at $1 million, which Stevens did not post. He was booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Stevens and his daughter had just moved into their Germantown Pike home on Oct. 1, police said. He is being represented by a public defender. Patch has reached out to the public defender’s office for comment on the case.
A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 13.

That is not nearly as likely as it used to be. Regions in the US are different to a degree in prison but the prevalence of Muslim gangs that he could clique up with for protection are much higher. Honestly the best chance of him dying while incarcerated is in county waiting for trial. The news of what he did will be both local and recent.
