Biden Calls On Congress To Strengthen Gun Ownership Rules

Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

President Joe Biden on Feb. 14 urged Congress to strengthen existing laws concerning gun ownership on the third anniversary of the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

“The Parkland students and so many other young people across the country who have experienced gun violence are carrying forward the history of the American journey. It is a history written by young people in each generation who challenged prevailing dogma to demand a simple truth: we can do better. And we will,” Biden said in a statement.

This Administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed that call. We will take action to end our epidemic of gun violence and make our schools and communities safer. Today, I am calling on Congress to enact commonsense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets.”

In the afternoon on Feb. 14, 2018, a man identified by authorities as Nikolas Cruz, now 22, walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and opened fire with AR-15 rifle. The shooting left 17 dead, including 14 students. Cruz, who is currently awaiting trial, could face the death penalty.

After the shooting, a number of Parkland students and parents began agitating for stricter gun control laws, arguing Cruz shouldn’t have been able to obtain a gun. But others pointed to failures by law enforcement, including safety officer Scot Peterson, who has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges for not entering the school building to confront Cruz, and urged restraint on new measures.

Biden said during the 2020 campaign that he supports stronger gun control; last week, administration officials met with gun control advocates, including Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, and John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters later that the administration is ready to move on the “ambitious plan” Biden laid out during the campaign.

Biden said on his campaign website that he will “defeat” the National Rifle Association (NRA). Among his proposed actions is repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which protects gun manufacturers from some lawsuits, banning so-called assault weapons, as Congress did for 10 years in 1994, and forcing people to either give up certain guns and magazines or register them with the federal government.

The NRA’s lobbying arm has fired back at Biden, saying he wants to ban “America’s most popular class of centerfire rifles, as well on the factory-spec magazines for most of the defensive pistols sold in the U.S.”

“Just as when Joe Biden unsuccessfully pursued gun control as Barack Obama’s vice-president, your NRA is fully prepared to oppose whatever plans he may have to ‘defeat’ America’s largest and oldest civil rights organization and the fundamental liberties it protects,” it added in a recent blog post.

Gun-control advocacy groups are pushing both executive orders and legislative packages they believe will help lead to fewer deaths by gunfire.

While Democrats control both chambers of Congress in addition to the White House, they require some Republican support in the Senate to pass new legislation.

Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) on Feb. 14 also mourned the shooting anniversary.

“As we honor the anniversary of this tragedy, we must also find the strength as a nation to prevent such tragedies from ever being repeated. With President Biden in the White House, we finally have the opportunity to make real strides to end gun violence. No survivor should endure another year of inaction. The fear of mass gun violence for Americans doing the most normal of activities, as well as gun violence in too many neighborhoods across the country, must be brought to an end with congressional action,” Wasserman Schultz said in a statement.

“On this day, I recommit to ensure that the names of the 17 victims are never forgotten in the halls of Congress and to honor their memory with action that will make our communities safer from gun violence,” Deutch added.

Blame an inanimate object? I have yet to hear one public official tell people to show some personal responsibility for their actions. We all just have to live with the fact that havings freedoms comes with some risk. It’s impossible to know if someone is going to go mental and kill people for no reason.

“Their actions” are what are never discussed by MSM and Prog scumbags. The cops were losers. They had a politically correct female Captain incompetent in charge. The Sheriff was/is a buffoon. The FBI was warned numerous times about Cruz. The school never reported incidents because they were, with the help of Sheriff loser, dummying criminal records regarding the school to qualify for federal reward money for being able to show decreasing criminal incidents. In other words the school district and sheriffs dept. were engaged in committing fraud for financial gain with the federal government. Where are those indictments?

If Xiden wants to end “gun” violence, he needs to go after the perpetrators of said violence, not the tool used by them. 1/2 of all violent crime in America is committed by young black men and most of them have been raised in single parent households. I would guess that 60 – 70% of the violent crime in America is committed by young men of all races that are raised in single parent households.

The problem is not guns, but boys raised without a father and this is a problem that is the result of democrat policies enacted over the past 56 years. States need to put in place laws that will protect their citizens from an illegal action by the federal government. Screw the District of Corruption and all who live there.

They can pass all the laws they want it will mean butkus. Logistically and practically it cannot be done. They’ll target a few people to make examples of in attempts to frighten all others into compliance but it won’t go much further than that. Smoke and puffery.

Agreed.

brian, You are looking at the immediate and short term, when medium and long term is where the prog/lefties are. Once they make it mandatory, lots of people comply right away. Nowhere near a majority, but a lot of people nonetheless. Over time (and less than you would think) compliance is so broad as to constitute the new normal, and than it is game over. There will be so few guns and so little ammo left in non-authorized hands that there will be no check anywhere on tyranny. That is what they hope, anyhow. I think they are probably right. If we the People were going to revolt, we already would have.

TN Patriot

Based on recent history, I doubt there will be much compliance.

I’m thinking long term. Like TN posted, when reg’s were made to turn in newly minted illegal accessories, very few get turned in. The ones that do turn them in are those that will obey ANYTHING the government will impose.

And we are talking about the US and not canukistan right?!?

IMHO you’re giving too much credit to the average American. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think so.

For YEARS many here have said that taking away gun rights would be their line in the sand. “YOU CAN GO THIS FAR, BUT NO FURTHER!!” … implying,of course, resorting to physical violence to preserve your rights.

I assume it’s indicative likewise for all true patriotic Americans.

I am NOT saying TBPers are pussies if they don’t do whatever necessary (including violence) to preserve their right-to-bear-arms. Folks have a right to change their minds, or engage in angry rhetoric.

This opens up an excellent side discussion.
The globalists are very close to achieving one of their biggest corrupting goals – the economic and military crippling of the US. A divided, discredited, economically weak America set upon itself will no longer be capable of extensive force projection and a foreign war, even if it was a short one, could be disastrous.

Shall not be infringed. All your bullshit gun control laws will do nothing to fix mental health crises. Exactly. Nothing. I know this game and I am not playing it. Stand by for the “next mass shooting,” aka inside job.

Gun ownership rules are already as strong as they need to be:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Everything else they have done has violated this.

Vixen Vic

None of these guns laws are constitutional. You need a constitutional amendment to change an amendment or any part of the constitution. Congressional legislation doesn’t do it. Where’s an honest court when you need it? Oh, right, we don’t have any.

Ghost

My husband just announced he’d read that the National Guardsmen will be kept in DC through the fall. Something about it costing $450 million.

I wonder if the two things are connected. Calling the NRA your enemy seems to require some defensive measures. Biden promised to “defeat” the NRA. He didn’t say he wanted to change the ideology of the NRA. He said “defeat” an organization whose basic principle is to stand on the 2nd Amendment as an inalienable right on equal footing to all other inalienable rights.

Thems War Words. So, he might need a defending army in place, don’t you think? Even though stripping citizens of their first amendment rights has gone rather well so far, taking the battle to an armed enemy, such as the members of the NRA, requires some carnage in the streets.

I pray our soldiers are not part of some evil scheme to create a false flag pitting our soldiers against our veterans, which comprise a lot of the NRA, I’m betting.

Anyone know what percentage of NRA members are veteran?

MrLiberty
MrLiberty

If the NRA actually supported the second amendment, they would not have caved in 1968 and nearly every time since. Other organizations actually care. They are simply put up as a evil symbol.

True. The NRA has either written or lobbied for every major gun control bill that Congress has passed, starting with the 1934 National Firearms Act. The NRA was established by the GAR during the republican party’s rule after Lincoln’s war. Many modern conservatives don’t know that the republican party started all of this shit that the democrats are practicing now. They don’t want to know, either.

Vixen Vic
Vixen Vic

Yes, but what conservatives also don’t want to admit is today’s Democrats were the “War Between the States” Republicans.

And the rabidity displayed by today’s Democrats is the exact same rabidity by 1800s Republicans before, during, and after the war.

Ed

You’re right. A few years ago I posted a comment to that effect and was flamed by nearly every motherfucker on here. What I wrote, if I remember correctly was something like: the only difference between the democrat party and the GOP is that the democrats used to be the conservative constitutionalist party while the GOP never has been.

You shoulda seen the shitstorm the conservatards here brought down on my ass. They beat the fuck out of me, to put it mildly.

That is how stupid anti-gun types are. Blame whatever serves the purpose of their crusade as long as personal responsibility is not involved….. except for copfuks.

This commie govt obviously and absolutely seems to want a war with its own people. They have called 80 million People terrorist. Allowed marxist to storm the capital in our own Reichstag moment and lay blame to maga. The media is complicit and they will be very remembered in the future as well.

They will make tens of millions felons overnight with new gun laws. One lone bullet lost in your basement or car and your life is ended and you are broke. This is what they need to make examples of normal people even people that complied. To place the fear of jail for 40 years all because one bullet rolled away in your basement many years ago and you sell your home and get ratted out. They need people so damned scared of guns for these draconian penalties. Laws that will literally end the financial lives of families and take the life of the person arrested for owning what is codified within the Constitution.

But, Once people realize the $150,000 fine is a starting point and the minimum is 25 years up to 40 years, that is a life sentence for even a 25 year old. The obvious choice in the Overton window, in which they have placed the narrative upon, is hoping people realize they should fight and go down blazing, so they can be proven correct that these terrorist are mean and bad and crazy. They want people to recognize either way, your life is over with such draconian harsh sentences and fines. They need the violence because there are none to point to regarding ar15’s! They refuse these facts.

The one thing they do not count on, however, is the people that must be made to pay by going to jail and become the example, is the Ensuing backlash. Or blowback as they say. No violence occurs, just thousands of CPA’s and doctors and businessmen all going to jail for life and losing their wealth and their families Are all Starving. This will not play well. It will even anger the indifferent sheeple and masses against them. They need the violence. They are depending on non compliance in a violent manner. Do not fall for it. Refuse to engage. Remain peaceful at all cost. Allow them to implode themselves!

Many will hammer down, not etch off, their serial numbers and then bury things deep instead….nowhere near their own property, and wait for the right moment. They think the people are stupid and emotional and they can evoke a response to their narrative. They are wrong. And then, when their big plans of genocide and complete marxism are put forth, things will rise from the dead and the fear makers will be on display like never before. And then they will realize just how badly they truly have fucked themselves. And I Mean fucked without jelly. As in a grape delivering a watermelon fucked. At that point the vengeance will be for Keeps. All the way; unseen for decades. And remembered for centuries. It will make the horrors of the civil war look like a fucking Barney Birthday Party in comparison. The sleeping giant will show the world it is not fucking around anymore. A statement will be made to the world. A Respect never known, will be shown globally.

Or, they crush the entire liberty movement at that point in a few hours and we all become slaves as per their current agenda anyways. I mean it could go either way. Seriously. These people are absolutely willing to rule over a nation of ashes. I prayed for this to happen this fast. I guess I never realized it could happen. More fantasy i guess. Now that it has happened I am even in shock at how fast it is moving and the sheeple still do nothing. I always thought even if they moved at half this speed even leftist would see where this ends up. I truly over estimated the IQ at 70. It more like 35. So now I am stuck in my fantasy land turned nightmare and not fully prepared. Shit.

One thing to remember about this is that Biden hasn’t said anything like what he’s being quoted as saying. The doddering old shitbag can’t string three words together without being prompted through an earpiece (think ‘Salute the Marines’). That’s why all his public ceremonies are conducted as “virtual” versions of what is usually done live and in public by a president.

If Biden were the actual threat, we wouldn’t worry about what he says because we know he would forget it in a few minutes. The ventriloquists behind Biden are the real threat, just as was the case with W.
