Tesla With No One In Driver’s Seat Wrecks, Burst Into Flames, Kills Two Men

Here we go again.

While the NHTSA continues to sit idly by and allow Tesla to continue to beta test its “Autopilot” and “Full Self Driving” features on public roads, yet another two men are dead after a Tesla crash where no one was reported to have been in the driver’s seat at the time.

The Tesla slammed into a tree near Hammock Dunes Place in the Houston Area, a local NBC affiliate reported. The wreck was in the “Carlton Woods subdivision near the Woodlands,” the report says.

According to authorities, “the vehicle failed to negotiate a cul-de-sac turn, ran off the road and hit the tree.”

Of the two occupants, one was seated in the passenger seat of the front of the car while the other was seated in the passenger seat of the back of the car.

NBC says it is “trying to determine whether the vehicle may have been in automatic driving mode due to the victims’ seating, but that information is not available yet.”

While we will also wait for further information before passing judgement, it would see to echo an influx of videos and Instagram posts showing Tesla owners sitting in various parts of their vehicles – anywhere but the drivers’ seat – while the car barrels forward in Autopilot or FSD mode.

And stop us if you’ve heard this one before: A reported 23,000 gallons of water needed to be used to extinguish the flames because the Tesla’s battery “kept reigniting”.

Meanwhile we continue to hear nary a word from the NHTSA regarding the potential (mis)use of Tesla’s Autopilot features. Perhaps when the family member of someone close to the agency, or congress, is involved, the agency will change its tune. Until then, they show no signs of being sweet on Elon Musk and letting him continue to beta test whatever features he likes on normal roads.

A funeral pyre on wheels. I’m at a loss as to why anyone would allow their loved ones to get into one of these.

Many think electric cars are safer after a crash because they do not have gasoline onboard. Batteries store nearly as much energy as gasoline and when shorted can release the energy quicker resulting in a hotter fire or explosion.

Also a different combustion 2Li + 2H2O –> 2LiOH + H2 (also combustable) . Very difficult to put those fires out.

Where is Ralph Nader when you need him to kill a dangerous automobile?

“In the early ’70s the Chevy Vega was found to be prone to explosions of the gas tank when they were struck from behind.”

I believe that was the Ford Pinto.

Ford could have fixed the problem for under five dollars. But, that would have meant some production delays so, Ford essentially said “Fuck you” to their customers. Iacocca is on record as preaching often in meetings, “Safety doesn’t sell.” Evil motherfucker, that guy.

You’re quite right. Sorry to post misinformation. I’m afraid memory no longer serves as well as it once did.

Mistakes happen. We ALL make mistakes. No big deal.

I know about the Pinto because I actually owned one. Really. Getting all 6’7″ of me into it was a challenge. Fortunately I was never rear-ended …. I guess Underwood wasn’t anywhere around. But, I’ll tell you what. I put around 80,000 miles on that car … had about 115k miles when I sold it …. and didn’t have even one repair on it (other than the normal wear and tear stuff).

Yup…it was the Pinto. My 80’s pop culture memory never fails.

Yes, Pinto, a Ford. However, the problem with a Vega was that it got around 100 mpq. That’s Miles Per Quart of Motor Oil. Aluminum block with steel pistons piece of sh*t.

Very effective at killing off mosquitos, as the fog trucks misting DDT mixed with kerosene had been banned. Jackson MS bought 100 to fog the streets ;-).

Remember how the early ’60s Corvairs would blow the smell of oil from the air vents?
No hassle huffing.

My little seester’s first car was a Pinto (a brand new 1980 base model), my older brothers first car was a ’60 Corvair, and my first car was a ’62 VW…..I didn’t run the heater in the winter because I would get some exhaust fumes thru the vents. It didn’t have a starter, but all I had to do was push it, jump in and pop the clutch.

Po peeps have po ways…..

Musk gets a pass because he’s the one they have putting 5G satellites in orbit.

Kinda like when the Corvair was finally taken off the road???

Thankfully only the occupants of the Tesla have been the ones killed in these crashes. Instant Karma.

Apparently, when a Tesla burns the roof completely melts into nothingness. Did they even find bodies, or just ashes?

Wonder how old they were? Seasoned adults or young kids out in Daddy’s really fast, expensive car? I wonder because I used to live there, and it’s a place bathed in soccer Moms and privilege. Just curious, as it isn’t like we haven’t seen Tesla’s kill these past few years.

How many “Crispy Critters” will Tesla accidents have to produce before they are declared unsafe by the appropriate alphabet agencies? You could not give me one of those vehicles. Seriously.
