A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.
Amadeus Soundtrack (Director’s Cut)
My apologies for this being just an album cover, but it’s the best version of this that I have ever found.
I could have done without the last piece (number 51), but for those of us that truly love Mozart, the rest of it’s wonderful.
This version is twice as long as the two-disc set that you can buy. You’re sure to hear things here that you won’t find anywhere else.
Everyone should just find something to do (or drink) and just listen to almost four hours of what is truly beautiful music…
I especially like the version of “32-the marriage of figaro k492_act iv) contessa, perdono” at 2:34:11 where after the count has spoken the first tender words to his wife in years believing her to be Figaro’s wife (who he intends to seduce) she exposes the fraud and he begs her for forgiveness and she forgives him. Anyone who’s hair doesn’t stand up on the back of their neck when the woman sings, “…yes, I forgive you…” must be ¾’s of the way dead already…

You Raise Me Up
Today, I introduce you to the very lovely and angelic pianist Ayako Ishikawa. As a bit of background, her website says:
A violin virtuoso, Ayako has given numerous sold-out recitals and concerts in various countries such as UK, Singapore, Russia, China, Vietnam, New Zealand, Philippines, Germany, Hungary, Australia and Japan.
She has also enchanted audiences worldwide through numerous TV and radio programs, concert broadcasts and CD+DVD albums.
Ayako is the winner of the National Overall Instrumental Winner’s Competition, and has been given the honorary title of “The BEST PERFORMER IN AUSTRALIA”.
Her exceptional international achievements were recognized by the Australian government, bestowing upon her a Distinguished Talented Permanent Visa – “the visa designed for people who are internationally recognized for exceptional and outstanding achievement in the arts.”
Ayako began playing the violin at the age of four in Tokyo, and moved to London at the age of five.
She was the youngest ever to pass the audition to enter the Purcell School, the oldest prestigious music school in London under the royal patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales.
At the age of fifteen, she moved to Sydney, where she was awarded a Merit Scholarship to the University of Sydney – the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and completed her Bachelor of Music Degree with First Class Honours.
She is the Winner of countless awards and scholarships such as Elizabethan Theatre Trust Violin Scholarship, Pan Pacific International Music Scholarship, the Australian Musician’s Academy Award and Golden Key International Honours Society Awards. She was also awarded both Licentiate Diploma of Music and Associate Diploma of Music, and was subsequently chosen to perform at the AMEB Diploma Presentation Ceremony at the Sydney Town Hall as one of the most outstanding musicians in Australia.
Ayako has performed throughout the world in the greatest halls including the Hanoi Opera House, Sydney Town Hall, Victoria Hall, Suntory Hall, Sydney Opera House and Toppan Hall, and has given her recitals at the Embassies of various countries.
We will start with her version of a universally loved song titled “You Raise Me Up.” The piece speaks for itself.
Amazing Grace
Next, she plays another universally-loved song titled “Amazing Grace.”
J.S. Bach : Cello Suite No.1 in G Major
Next, this little Japanese peach plays “J.S. Bach : Cello Suite No.1 in G Major”.
She plays this with a 1711 date Stradivarious loaned to her by Japan Violin.
Her admiration for the instrument, both before and after the piece does not go unnoticed.
Crying Violin
Next, she plays an original song titled “Crying Violin.”
An incredible talent.
Stand By Me
She follows that with the well known “Stand By Me.”
A Whole New World
We’ll finish this off with her gorgeous version of “A Whole New World” from the motion picture Aladdin.
Very, very lovely.
I hope that you enjoyed Ayako’s talent and music.
Have a great day.
Glenn Gould and Leonard Bernstein: Bach’s Keyboard Concerto No. 1 (I) in D minor
This clip is absolutely sensational: as education, composition and in performance. Glenn Gould was 28 years old here.
For the impatient, Gould’s performance begins at 5:08, but I strongly encourage you to watch Leonard Bernstein’s fascinating introduction.
This film originally aired in 1960 on CBS Television as part of its “Ford Presents” series.
The entire film in high quality (of which this clip is a small part) was painstakingly hunted down by YouTuber erp65 and his friends. It can be found here, and I urge you, I really DO urge you, to see it in its entirety:

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
Getting tediously awesome, another set of great music.
I especially enjoyed the playing of Evangelina Mascardi at the end here. Never heard her before, what an awesome find.
Thanks Brian.
Glad you liked Evangelina. I thought I’d share her talents with everyone.
She’s quite good.
Man, oh man, I love Sunday Morning Classics. No … no … I LOVE!!!! Sunday Morning Classics.
Four hours of Mozart? Are you kidding me???
Mean Mary is such an enjoyable performer to watch!
Ayako on the Strad …holy moly … almost brought tears of joy. wow. wow. WOW!! I don’t know if I will ever ever hear a better violin version of Amazing Grace. That DID tear me up, and I am not ashamed.
.
.
You guys REALLY NAILED it this week.
Glad that you are enjoying our offerings Stucky.
Four hours of Mozart was just too good to pass up.
I’ll let nkit comment about Ayako. Those were all his offerings this week.
Stephanie, today is Sunday, the Lord’s Day, a day of forgiveness.
And these music threads, which the 3 amigo’s painstakingly put together, as a labor of love, reflects the Lord’s Day. Of all the threads that are posted all week long, this is the one thread where anger and bitterness ought to be set aside … it is a place where shit-fests ought to die.
Yet, you for some unknown reason decide that posting “Gay!!!” is appropriate … because of your hurt feelings on another thread on a different day.
You’re hoping I respond with some invective, I am certain of that …. but, I will not play. You are doing a fine job on your own showing us who, and what, you are.
Have a nice day …… and try to enjoy the music.
Gayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
This is seldom stated in this site, but you are being highly inappropriate to pursue this on this particular weekly offering. This ain’t the time or place. Double down elsewhere if you just gotta, but please don’t sully what has become a beautiful TBP tradition.
It’s about the music.
Free Speech.
Oh, you mean that thing that pissed you off so bad to begin with?
I actually understood why you got upset to begin with, but you’re being an asshole right here and now.
A word of advice; do you really think Jim is going to continue to allow you to pull this bullshit on this particular weekly thread? He might, but I wouldn’t get too comfortable with it.
[youtube
What part of free speech don’t you understand?
What part of ass-hole do you not understand?
You’re not too bright, are you?
I will remind everyone of just how ugly these things can get.
Says the Ghost of Maggie.
There are a bunch of chauvinist pigs around here who occasionally lift their snouts and say something relevant, but they are not going to go to bat for you even if there was a giant misunderstanding and a spiteful bit of back and forth that justifies your anger.
You contribute good topics and bring a point of view to TBP which I consider valuable, being the mother of a millennial I tried to betroth to you years ago. (Remember how BL and EC gave me crap about trying to get you to meet my son? He is still engineering software for the evil empire. And, still available!)
I think there are bad vibes between some people here that go so far back no one really knows what started it.
Do yourself (and the rest of us) a favor and build a bridge and get over it.
Unless someone challenges you, then let the tampons fly. ;0
Glad that you liked Ayako on violin, Stucky. She has gotten to be one of my absolute favorites. I have put together another submission of her music that probably will not be on SMC for a couple of months. I’ll give you a sneak preview of one of the songs. I don’t know if I have heard better than this piece. If the Devil went down to Tokyo and challenged her, he’d have to leave a golden Strad at her feet.
Enjoy Ayako playing Vivaldi’s “Winter” It simply doesn’t get much better.
God bless you, nkit. And I mean that from the bottom of my heathen heart. I’ve posted this before but, Vivaldi is my absolute favorite! I’ve worn out a couple of Four Seasons CDs …. which I know is technically impossible. Supposedly. HA! And now to hear this? Later today I am actually going to see if I can find whether or not she’s giving any performances in the NYC-Philly area.
This guy, Elijah Aaron, plays a short piece … a love song to his wife of two years. Why I like it. He plays ALL the instruments and does ALL the voices. Literally, a one man band. I think that’s pretty cool.

Ana Vidović is considered by some to be one of the best virtuoso guitarists in the world. I usually take such praises (from people I don’t know) with a grain of salt.
But, in this case …… hmmm, they might be right. But, what do I know? I can barely play the radio. My son, who has been playing violin/guitar since he was 3 years old said what she is doing is pretty difficult … and that she’s amazing at it. He gave her a thumbs up … which he does with maybe 1 out of every 20 vids I send to him. Ha, I guess I really do suck at music!
.
OK … last one from me.
Based on the Johnny Cash article I submitted a little while ago … I know we have a lot of fans here. And Louie Armstrong? What a wonderful human being and musician! Here they are together, having a blast, and hopefully you will also.

Stucky – Maybe your musical taste isn’t so bad after all.
I will feature your last two selections in about a month or so. I’ll let you know when a little later today.
Many thanks.
lol Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
No need to let me know. I know you are busy. When I see it … I’ll see it …. and it will be a wonderful surprise.
Did you know Louis Armstrong was a 33rd degree mason?
So???
I love Masons. They make awesome jars.
May a diseased yak leave a surprise in you mason jar. 🙂
Turn on some smooth jazz Stucky, it will help you survive the day with Stephanie.
Stephanie has zero effect on my well being. I’m in HER head, she’s not in mine.
You’re sure on a roll today.
Beautiful selections. Rain and thunderstorms all day today. I will have this on in the background while work today.
That’s the spirit Abigail.
There are some fine banjo and fiddle players out here in the Ozarks.
And the Elephant Rocks are just around the corner from my grandmother’s grave, you know.
I am listening to a Bossa Nova/Jazz mix this morning but classical and swing are the best to get you into a good mental frame of mind. Jazz is very relaxing.
Some nice guitar solos from a talented player
Actually his solo list starts here… I just let them auto play for a nice sit’n listen time…
Wow, wow and wow. The white guitar….wow.
AP- I just saw a Morris Minor Traveler 1000 (woody) go off the block cheap on the ACA auto auctions, What a cool car, I would love to attend there in England some day. Luxury cars go for next to nothing compared to here in the US.
Nice find, nkit, with Ayako. Maybe it’s just me, but I could swear that I noticed a subtle Japanese tone to Amazing Grace that gave it a unique sound.
Well done to all. It is always appreciated.
Oh, goody, I picked up another downvotester; I wonder who that could be?
luckyyyyy….
Addin’ ’em on one at a time. Takes a dedicated effort but it is so worth it.
da tampon jihadist. 😉
I’m glad you enjoyed her music. Check her out playing Vivaldi’s “Winter” above on my reply to Stucky. Thanks for listening to SMC and commenting, too, TS.
Gentlemen, wonderful as always! It appears that TMWNN and Admin may need to intervene in keeping the site clean and harmonious. I’m sorry to see this weekly post sullied today.
Roger that…
I hope that you and your family are well.. God Bless y’all.
You really do give the place a sense of style.
Am so glad you presented Mean Mary so well! She’s a real special talent from another suburb in another set of sticks.
I shall have to continue celebrating all things Beethoven and sharing what delights the ear and the soul! Hopefully this one make people smile, I am pretty certain Ludwig would have approved.
