Where do I start? Political fragmentation under a multi-party system hell bent on welfare-state socialism, an overall lack of national identity undermined by the french-english cultural divide, reliance on a petro-dollar and resource industry as opposed to nurturing and developing a knowledge and production based economy, high-tax-big-government punitive environment for innovation, leading to the brain drain of our best and brightest, high cost of living leading to collapsing birthrates leading to massive immigration (of takers, not contributors) leading to more non-productives and less productives, 30+ years of “public education” indoctrination systems producing idiots who only feel but can’t think and become entrenched government drones, and finally puppet master governments entrenched within the political elite class doing foreign communist governments dirty work for them, i.e. taking in all the world’s least desirables, enabling foreign money laundering in the housing market, and taking kickbacks along the way for all of it. I’m just scratching the surface. Sorry for the rant.

This has been super popular in Alberta and Ontario. In BC, churches (which are open now) defied lock down orders on a regular basis. At first they got fined. Then the government, the police and the media just left them alone in the hopes they would go away or that no one would notice.

I’m not sure why there is such a disparity between the provinces. Especially when you consider that BC has an NDP government and AB and Ont are supposedly conservative. Go figure.

I live in Calgary. I moved here over 20 years ago after escaping Quebec. Western Hospitality and Cowboy Culture were alive and well. It was a great place to start a business and raise a family.
Today it is just another ‘woke’ degraded hole.
Our mayor is Naheed Nenshi. His loudly and proudly proclaimed gay Marxist land whale from Toronto. His claim to fame is that he was the 1st Muslim Mayor in North America. He was elected by virtue signaling white suburban soccer moms, man bun-lumberjack beard douchebags, alphabet soup gender dysphoric with a strong social media campaign. He has called the Calgarians protesting his mask/lockdown mandates that have destroyed local business and the economy as ‘Thinly veiled white nationalists (code for white supremacists).” He has made about $2 million and has announced he will not seek re-election. The police are his henchmen.

Conservatives are more militaristic and law enforcement friendly. Liberals are not — generally speaking of course. This is why Doug Casey chooses Vermont and Argentina over New Hampshire and Chile. Obviously the big picture points to liberals being more dangerous overall (Moa, Stalin, Pol Pot v. the much less lethal right wing dictatorships). So I guess it is just pick your poison in the end and hope for the best.

This is one Boomer who spent (and continues to spend) his life happily situated at three o’clock with emphasis on happiness and prosperity and I couldn’t care less about cyclical views of the world, of which many widely-differing versions abound. The world’s a good-sized place and there’s still no “theory of everything”, cyclical or not, that fits all sizes. Sorry your own life causes you such bitterness.

We’ve had cyclical views of the world since before we had written history. It seems to fit in with the cycles that are observed elsewhere in nature. I see no reason to deny such a thing without some reason.

Not sure where the bitterness there is.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but it appears you have some serious resentment against “Boomers” that implies bitterness. As to cycle-denying, well, I’d be curious which of the pre-written-history theories we know of (and how we know of them except as hearsay) outside of nature can be empirically proven; or for that matter which of the written ones can.

I’d just say the mythologies of the Indo-Europeans for a short answer. Since we evolved because of repeated ice-ages among other cycles, it’s probably bred into us. Someone complaining about bad times occuring repeatedly is like someone complaining about winter occuring every year.

I’m not trying to prove anything specific like Glubb’s or other theories. Just that things most things (I’m trying to think of exceptions) have cycles, thinking that history is only about one-way progress, or that the world was created 6000 years ago and will be destroyed according to whatever the bible says, or the world starts and ends with the individual, is shortsighted. In my completely biased opinion, it leads people to bizarre behaviours that kill them off.

Working because your parents made you? Making work so important you let strangers raise you children? All are different. I don’t consider industriousness for it’s own sake a good.

If you were an old Roman and I said that Rome had turned to shit a long time ago and was on the verge of collapse, you see what a non sequitur it would be to say how hard you and your peers had worked when you were young? It’s not relevant.

Re: your comment:
To keep the animal kingdom analogy going …. we need to cut off the head of the snake.
Not necessarily. Tactically speaking, it is easier to cut off pieces of the snake. Once enough of the snake is removed (far earlier than reaching the head) the snake can no longer effect an attack. Remove a little more, and the snake can no longer protect itself. At this point, you can post the snake on a pike in the hot sun and let the crows pick it to pieces.
All un-elected law enforcement are the jackboots of the state.

I’ll never understand people who spew that “back the blue” horse shit. People need to understand that cops are not there to serve you or protect you. They are there to enforce laws enacted by government scumbags. They care about their paycheck and benefits and don’t give a shit about your rights. I’m also sick of hearing about the “a few bad apples” argument when it comes to defending them. Most of them are power hungry egomaniacs.

My brother is a cop, a staff sergeant in Ottawa, and has just put in for retirement after 25 years. He worked his way up from constable to detective and worked undercover with gangs, moved on to forensics, and was rewarded with a safer spot at the as staff sergeant at the airport. Until that time, which was only a few years ago, we never knew if he was coming home. He has never shot anyone in 25 years. He is well liked on the force. He has a great pension and I will say that he has earned every fucking nickel. Behind the badge he ‘s a great Dad, Husband, friend, he knows how to hunt, reno a cabin, play bass, and have a couple beers and tell a pretty good joke. He was a good cop and is a good man. I’m glad he’s out.
The police in the video are probably the same. When I heard Robinson, the bald guy, trying to justify what he was doing with that pathetic lame bullshit, ” I don’t like having to arrest people for theft, either,” it was beyond cringeworthy. But I also heard a man whose conscience was rattled and struggling with it. That’s not an excuse but an explanation. Their humiliation and resentment is growing. The association that is supposed to stand up for them are not doing so. Some have left the force because of it. The rest are sticking together and making some hard decisions. They’re are being directed to do things they never thought they signed on for and hate it. Watch the clip again and they actually say so. They are also on camera. They still have families, mortgages, university tuitions, just like you and I do. I guarantee that Robinson wishes he never said what he said.
It is easy to say they should quit. I’ve heard the same advice in every bar I’ve ever been in from guys saying how they would ‘Throw that bitch out if it was my wife!!!’ or ‘I’d tell my boss to take their job and shove it up their ass!” They never would and they never will but talk is cheap.
The police are easy to hate until someone is breaking into your place or threatening your life.
Like tow truck drivers, everyone hates them until they need them.
I blame the petty tyrant mayor but still continue to protest to the Calgary police.
Just sayin’

Maybe it’s different in Canada, but I can shoot a burglar or a home invader. I can’t shoot a cop.

They’re low level system thugs. Most of them are crooks. I have had cop friends, but they were those who DID have the balls to quit.

Right. Ok Anon, I forgot that everyone in the US has a gun handy. Canadians have guns and are permitted to defend themselves, too.
I call Bullshit, but I guess it is different in the US with cops breaking in to your homes or threatening your life being so much more commonplace than in Canada. I don’t know anyone here that has had to deal with a cop breaking in to their home.
The only thing you fire off are cheap shots. It doesn’t take balls to quit. It takes balls to stand up and fight to change. Say hi to all your big balls mall cops for me. Asshole.

Cops (and military for that matter) in American (not sure if it is the same in Canada) take an oath to the Constitution when the are sworn in. They do not take an oath to blindly follow their chief or the asshole politicians that pass laws and pay their salaries. Yet, yet 9.9/10 times they will follow an illegal order rather than the constitution. And it is for one reason: money. In the end, they are mercenaries. Not exactly how they teach it to little Johnny in the first grade, but true nonetheless.

This is kind of why I respect the east more than the west. Sure the east has a long history of dictatorship and tyranny, but at least they don’t sugar coat reality. Political orders are gangs writ large. Putin and Xi are gang leaders. And I think the people understand it as such. Whereas the west cloaks their political orders in the shroud of righteous republics and other such institutions —which gives an air of legitimacy and honor even to the gang. A gang is a gang; its probably useful to a certain extent. But it ought to be called what it is.

I’m finding it very hard to face the fact there is simply no rule of law anymore, as are others.
Take alt market’s recent argument on private businesses ‘can’t usurp rights’. Yes, but schools and businesses ARE actually requiring people take an experimental injection. This is totally against every law but they’re still doing it.
It’s just too much of a glaring example to ignore.

These people have unfortunately become examples that are publicized to frighten others to toe the line, and the aware to go into gray an mode. I’m beginning to think gray man mode just follows their plan (except selective timing of it).
