A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Chariots of Fire
Today. we hear from Evangelos Oddysseas Papathanassiou who performs under the name Vangelis.
He was born in 1943 in Agria, Greece. He has written many film scores – some of which will follow.
For instance, one of his more well known film scores is Chariots of Fire This version is live from the Mythodea concert.
Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey
Next, from the same concert we hear his piece titled “Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey.”
Love Theme
I’ll follow that with a personal Saxophone piece titled “Love Theme” from the film Blade Runner.
Conquest of Paradise
Next, from the film “1492” he plays “Conquest of Paradise”
Song Of The Seas
I’ll end it with a beautiful piece titled “Song Of The Seas.”
Have a great fun day Sunday..
Love Theme
Along with nkit’s submissions this week, when he sent them to me he said that he hoped I liked the saxophone part in this song.
After we exchanged a few emails I said that I missed mine and that I wished I had never sold my Conn C-Melody or my Buescher 400’s and that I would still play them if I had them. They would brighten my day. He sent me this submission along with the following email.
I thought I would add it to his submission this week for everyone else to enjoy.
Steve C.
“Just as a FYI, Vangelis is perhaps as accomplished on the synthesizer as anyone.
The Blade Runner piece is one of my favorite pieces of music however, while I don’t know 100%, I have read that the sax on the piece was “synthed” by Vangelis.
Regardless, it is still beautiful.
Here it is on sax without a doubt.
Enjoy,
nkit

More piano – can’t get enough of it, especially with Bach – love it!

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
Well done, once again, Steve, Peter, and Nkit.
Earlier this week, my local classical / jazz station played this.
Many people recognize this emotionally touching piece,
when used as background music for film or photo scenes of sadness.
We’ve heard it before, but this slightly different version is by Canadian Brass.
No strings to be found in this adagio.
Horns and wind instruments sound great at times.

Thank you SMC – your appreciation is valued.
Thanks SMC.
It’s always good to hear from you.
Superb performance by a superb pianist and orchestra.
Thanks ursel.
We’ll use it as our feature on August the first and credit you for it.
I was actually looking for a substitute for that day as I lifted the piece that I had for it (last week’s Star Trek feature) and used it as our feature to replace the one that had been deleted by YouTube when I loaded it in.
That happens a lot now.
Many thanks…
Excellent work again gentlemen, Thanks
Thanks splurge.
We’re glad that you are enjoying it.
Great stuff Steve – it is sad that you have been parted from your Sax – If I had one, you would have it – I love this instrument as much as the piano and in combination with drums and bass we have a quartet of power and beauty IMHO. I will try to find some for next issue.
Thanks Peter although I don’t know how good I’d be at playing it now. It’s been a long time.
Thanks, Steve for adding that DNSO version of Vangelis’s Love Theme from Blade Runner..Very beautiful. As you know, we have more saxophone on the way. Thanks.
Thank you again. Blade Runner nostalgia.
See you next week.
I love it! Thanks Leah.. I love DNSO. I see more Piano Guys on the horizon. Thanks for listening and commenting. Please stick around.
I will. Vivaldi has a special place in my heart, too. Gloria was a treat to listen. I allowed myself to lose myself in his music while driving, and earned myself a speeding ticket.
Thanks Leah. Very nice.
We’ll use it and credit you for it.
