When I was 7, in 1960, there were a series of psa’s that warned of the danger of blasting caps. I am sure that one kid someplace lost a finger handling a blasting cap, but I’ve never known anybody this has happened to. But I was very alarmed and went to my father, who calmly assured me blasting caps were only found around places like construction sites and ranches, and there was nothing for me to be concerned about. I still remember this well. In the past year, kids across the country have been inundated by terrifying warnings about Covid on tv, the internet, at home and at school, even though their personal risk levels are negligible. I can’t imagine how much lasting damage this has done to young people, who will grow up neurotic and fearful of what is no more than phantoms. It will be a nation of Felix Ungers.

I think the lack of rational capacity is something hard to rationally accept. He has a socially functional ‘BS radar’ and can’t see the objective danger.
