It has been nearly a decade since I first started sharing my Sea Gypsy Tribe concept on the World Wide Web. My belief is that ocean-going sailboats are the best survival platform for any catastrophe that might arise. And I am convinced that small groups of like-minded, well-prepared sailors banding together are an excellent option for dealing with disasters. That conviction remains as solid as a light-house.
However, something quite significant has changed during the intervening ten years. The scenarios that deeply concerned me back then have diminished in severity. But these have been replaced by even more frightening dangers.
For example, I once believed that Climate Change was indeed the “existential threat” that is so loudly and incessantly trumpeted from the mainstream press and institutions. However, in 2017, I decided to join some friends in an attempt to sail across the legendary Northwest Passage above the North American continent.
For decades, so-called experts have been predicting that the Arctic would be “ice-free” any day now. It most definitely was not. Here are a couple of photos that I took to prove this point. In one, we are trapped by huge icebergs and in the other we are desperately seeking a path through the endless pack ice. Eventually, we succeeded. But that voyage from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Nome, Alaska took 76 days.
This experience inspired me to examine human-caused Climate Change far more thoroughly. My results were jolting – but encouraging. That’s because I discovered that the risk has been enormously exaggerated.
Sadly, this is not an accident. It is a deliberate fraud designed to funnel more wealth and power to those at the top while subjecting those of us at the bottom to more poverty and misery. Here is a link to one of my essays that thoroughly explains this.
Another possible calamity that concerned me a decade ago was Big “E” Energy. Peak Oil was widely heralded as the catalyst that would initiate societal collapse. But fracking and tar sands have managed to postpone that emergency. Many argue that this technology has just delayed the inevitable, but undoubtedly this threat seems less significant now than it did 10 years ago.
Economics – or more precisely, economic lunacy – was my third major concern when I first advanced my Sea Gypsy Tribe strategy. A gigantic global economic meltdown seemed imminent and inescapable.
After all, how could you solve a debt crisis by creating MORE debt?Since every fiat currency in history had eventually failed, why was the dollar seen as invulnerable? And what about the “unfunded liabilities” that the aging Baby Boom generation were creating?Yet despite the obvious cracks in the global economic dam, it has somehow survived … for now.
Besides these threats, I proposed that ocean-ready sailboats were also the best answer to nuclear war or an EMP attack or bio-terrorism or any other apocalyptic scenario.
I have not wavered in my belief that small tribes of 6 to 10 boats of able-bodied, highly intelligent, properly-prepared and strong-willed sea gypsies can withstand any dire situation. But what has changed is my awareness of an extraordinary danger that I had not anticipated.
*******
All of the possible disasters that I have inventoried above, stem from the traditional motivations that have cursed our species down through the centuries. Greed and the Lust for Power have been prominent in human cultures ever since about 10,000 years ago, when Big “A” Agriculture led to hierarchies and to social stratification.
But there is a new impetus that drives me to again argue for the formation of Sea Gypsy Tribes all around our wet and magnificent planet. A far more dangerous – and perhaps even an existential threat, is now darkening the near-future human horizon.
There is a group of semi-secret tyrants who are trying to impose a planet-wide control grid upon the ordinary people of Earth. They seek to totally transform what we have come to regard as our everyday lives.
I fear that these Malignant Overlords are not driven by the traditional motives of Greed and Power. That is because they already possess more wealth and power than a medieval king.
Instead, their desire to achieve total control over the lives of everyone on the planet, is fueled by something deeper and darker. They are Servants to Evil. How else can one explain the New Normal that they are attempting to impose upon Humanity?
They want to control our bodies with mandatory vaccinations, useless masks and implanted chips to track, trace and monitor us.
They want to thwart our mobility by making international travel impossible due to quarantines. And they want to switch out our cars which are physical symbols of our personal freedom, and replace them with self-driving vehicles that they can control with drone technology.
They want to replace paper money with a digital, cashless system. Although they will lie and tell us that it is for our convenience, it is actually for their control. They will be able to monitor our every transaction. And should we attempt to buy an AR-15, they can forbid that purchase and add us to a “watch list.” And should we upset them too many times they can simply eliminate the money in your account – “accidentally” of course.
They even want to control the food we eat. There is a massive global media campaign to demonize meat even though it is our ancestral food and our ideal species-appropriate diet. Their grand plan is to force us to survive on insect goo protein.
They claim that this is to save the planet and to be more compassionate to animals. However, they do not mention that meat production is a very small proportion of greenhouse gases – in fact cows only contribute 2%. And they ignore the carnage of billions of small animals that get murdered by massive harvesters and pesticides.
I could describe page after page of horrific changes that they intend to force on Humanity as they convert us into 21st Century serfs. But I will only discuss one more.
Klaus Schwab, who seems to be a James Bond villain disguised as a societal visionary, actually wants to alter our biological essence. He does not just want to force tracking chips under our skin, he wants to implant chips into our brains.
He proclaims that this will connect us to THE CLOUD. My guess is that it will wifi us into the Hive Mind. We will become nothing more than Cyber Worker Bees.

Returning back to my Sea Gypsy Tribe message, I now believe that our mission has changed dramatically. We should certainly be prepared to respond to the more traditional disasters that I mentioned earlier in this essay.
BUT, our utterly vital new quest must be to protect and sustain the natural, biological human being that is so ruthlessly attacked every day.
We must rebel against being enslaved by this demented Technocracy. We must continue to raise true human children, and heap scorn upon their test tube reproduction. We must repel any authorities who try to “augment” us with their Devil Chips.
This will require supreme self-sufficiency. We will have to sail away from the comfort and convenience of the real World. But the Sea and the Shore are bountiful to those who study them and embrace them.
Our little water-wandering tribes will remain a small beacon of refusal and resourcefulness in dark and troubled times. Take comfort in the knowledge that we will be out there – surviving and flourishing!

Except hurricanes.
Hi FM,
It’s very easy to dodge hurricanes using the electronic weather resources available. And if the Grid and the satellites go down, the pre-modern Master Mariners provided very reliable methods for detecting the location and direction of Spinners.
Clouds offer hints about all kinds of weather, maybe even the long stringy crisscross ones that grow to a film over the sky…
and tsunamis.
Rogue waves are more of a concern. Unless you are close to shore, tsunamis generally will just make the boat go up and down with zero impact.
Great people are not affected by each puff of wind that blows ill. Like great ships, they sail serenely on, in a calm sea or a great tempest.
George Washington
Or maybe this is what may make you apprehensive about sailing:
The man who has experienced shipwreck shudders even at a calm sea.

And pirates disguised as Gov.scum.com
Hey SS,
The marauder types in a SHTF scenario will stay ashore which is a more target rich environment. My Tribe has a pre-arranged Lat-Long position where we will rendezvous. We will all leave quietly and separately. Most pirates are in open boats with limited range due to fuel hungry big outboards. They rarely go more than 25 miles offshore.
And rogue waves, and lightning storms. Also what happens when you need food or fresh water and your lack of vaccine passport or similar means you can’t pull into harbor, etc.?
Hi ML,
Rogue waves. Better chance of dying from an errant golf ball. The boat will roll onto her side and pop back up again. Right now I have at least 6 months long-life food onboard. I catch rain for water and have an emergency salt to fresh water conversion device. I use my rods for fishing at sea and my spear gun inshore. If the SHTF I will sail to isolated islands with no officials. All forms of prepping have their weaknesses and strengths. For lightning I have a jumper cable with a short length of chain that I clip to my rigging. This directs the charge back into the sea. But risks are part of Life and also add a bit of spice. What sort of reward would one feel after completing an ocean passage if it was risk proof?
Who’s the humorless twit that down voted this???
Although I swim like a fish I wouldn’t know how to handle a boat if one was given to me. Survival can take many aspect, yours being just as valid as any others.
I still believe that against an army of Schwab Haliburton like soldiers, my chances of survival on foot are greater that on any boat which could be easily targeted by satellite.
Mountains are great place to hide, except from an earthquake.
Roll of the dices.
It’s not that difficult, especially under survival situations.
Do you really think that any gov’t would waste a million $ missile to take out some lone sailor anchored in some reef lagoon in the south pacific? Really?
If l wasn’t so fucking old and decrepit I’d be joining Ray asap.
Being old and just semi-decrepit I will go hide in the mountains, the eyesight still good and the hand steady. ?w=550&h=550&p=0
Hey Gs,
Although I do sail solo I have phantom crew onboard in the persons of MR Glock, Mr Recurve and Mr. Molotov. They don’t eat my food and they don’t complain. As soon as I am offshore I drag a bleach jug astern for target practice. Great fun.
I bet. I envy you. I had to move to France in 2008 to care for my mother and now I stuck here where weapons like yours are illegal but there are some ways to legally own weapons that are legal and lethal.
France………..yeah……….a hammer if you’re a carpenter, a brick if you’re a mason, a lead pipe if you’re a plumber. See, all sorts of legal weapons.
Not at all Muscle I won’t write about it, because I don’t want a new law passed but there are way to bypass literally everything
Hey Dawg,
EXACTLY. When the shit goes down, the Sea Gypsies will be perceived as such a minuscule nuisance that they will waste no energy on us. And the sats can pick up big ships fairly easy but my AVENTURA is essentially invisiblewith the scale that they normally pan. If they zoom way in, she is visible. But how would you like to scan the Pacific in one square mile quadrants.
I have spent a decade honing my SEA GYPSY TRIBE concept in an attempt to anticipate its weak spots.
When I read his first posting of the Sea Gypsy plan, I told him I wish I had known about it 25 years ago when I got divorced. It would have made a lot of sense for me back then. Now, I am too old and too tied down to do something that is this out of the box.
Hey Tn,
What matters is Resistance and Non-compliance. You can do that from anywhere. I’m bettin’ you will.
I figure this running out of oil stuff is BS. Millions of people have a paid for car or truck and are happy with their situation. Now we are being pushed into? Getting rid of our cars and getting into debt for electric cars that don’t have the range or abilities our ICE vehicles have. Not to mention the infrastructure or capacity to handle millions of people plugging in. There are problems with batteries and disposing of them also. I was told the coast right outside of LA has enough oil to last the country for a few hundred years.
France could drown the Saudis with their own oil if they drilled on the coast of Guyana. Same goes for Netherlands and UK who are part of the same coast line.
The goal is to use up all our enemy’s oil first, leaving us with the only oil left?
I had the same thought back during the Peanut administration and I was making a living off of the oil patch.
The dollar being backed by oil, sounds like a solid plan, no?
My ex Navy buddy told me the largest oil deposit on Earth is under the Gulf of Mexico
If you look at the Guyana coast line it’s almost on the other side of Gulf of Mexico.
CA just asked their residents to not recharge their EV’s due to the power shortage. How do you think they will handle all the electrical needs once they outlaw the ICE?
Ray, A long ago article in Latitude 38 explained that nuclear fallout sinks in water so if you get dusted ,get out the bucket and rinse everything off . The crabs aren’t so lucky but at least they have shells. Remember when there was a spate of stories about the mutated sea anomalies out at the Farallons due to the Navy dumping tons of nuke waste? Giant crabs and things-shudder.
One of the things I learned on my 29 day passage was ‘take more food’ .
Warm and High Regards
Hi Tab,
I used to write a column for LAT 38. Great mag. I remember that article. I believe it is called YOUR BOAT IS YOUR BEST BOMB SHELTER. Am pretty sure that I still have a faded copy onboard. Later down in the thread I will link to a fictional piece about a Sea Gypsy Tribe after the nukes fly. I suspect the gang here might enjoy it.
If you ever make it ‘on to the radar’ of that sort of state, it would be child’s play to eliminate you. They are already good at finding boats out on the ocean.
What’s the longest you’ve sailed without ship maintenance or overhaul you weren’t able to complete yourself with tools you had on the ship and materials you harvested yourself?
What I’m getting at is you might find your freedom severely limited by the whims of the harbormaster.
Hey Anon,
I have done solo ocean passages of 30, 29, 24 and 17 days. When out there alone it is just you and your tools. I love that sort of self-reliance. I could leave the Archipelago of Bliss in 2 hours and be set for at least a half a year. Would just top up my water, persihable foods, and propane. Have lots of freeze-dried and de-hydrated foods, fishing skills and intruder aversion tools. Some in 9 mm and some of the re-curve type. I call that my “silent persuader.”
Once you clear into almost any port, you never see the Port Captain until you clear out. And in a SHTF situation, that all evaporates.
Ray-
You’re living my dream. Some things just weren’t meant to be.
Fair winds and fallowing seas my friend.
Hey Dawg,
I’m confident that your life is W A A – Way Above Average.
Thanks Ray. Stay safe.
HI TO ALL MY TBP FRIENDS,
Here is a link to a fictional essay I wrote a while back that deals with a SEA GYPSY TRIBE after a nuclear attack. I believe many of you will enjoy it. If so, there are two more installments that follow this one.
THE STRANGER ARRIVES
Interesting posts all, but none seem to address the main concern of the writer; his attention has shifted from survival via a novel sea faring means, to an acknowledgement of the real danger is to humanity itself.
His point is well taken; what is the motivation of the global gulag that is being developed and implemented right before our eyes? Is the motivation money? Greed? Or, is it something more sinister?
His conclusion is appropriate for the times, something wicked this way comes. And, with its global nature, there is no real way of escaping it. So, in my humble opinion, its not so much the location or the contents of your bug-out-bag, but it is where your heart is at and have you prepared inwardly for the coming chaos.
Think about it.
Thinking about it daily, looking at BOB next to the bed.
Hi Not Sure,
Am chuckling as I realize that your handle is the main character from IDIOCRACY.
Thanks for picking up on the real thrust of the article. My contention is that they no longer just wish to rule over human beings. Instead they want to EXTINGUISH human beings. They will kill enough to reduce the number down to the minimum number that they need to service their disgusting opulent and perverse desires. Then they will try to improve on themselves via Trans-humanism in the quest for immortality. And then they will try to downgrade us through various technologies that will convert us into supine semi-human service workers.
IF TAKING A STAND AGAINST THAT IS NOT A WORTHY QUEST, THEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS!!!
Thank you for your reply!
It starts with the jab and will continue from there.
Don’t get the jab to start with and it will be easier to reject the next steps they will take to reduce us to something less than human.
Treasure and revel in how you were wonderfully created!
Hi NS,
If they start forcibly inoculating, then my Tribe will activate. We know it is the beginning of the end.
Good luck to you and your loved ones – especially your “artist” girlfriend. BTW hidden in the credits to IDIOCRACY is a scene where her pimp actually does go 500 years into the future to track her down.
Just don’t tell my wife!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ray Jason, I put my faith in Jesus Christ’s soon return. I may even live long enough to enjoy a walk to the guillotine with his praises on my lips.
You sir are a beautiful soul.
Hi PS,
Thanks for the kind words.
this is fast becoming a major mission for all of us in whatever place and mode of survival we attempt – preserve a future for wild natural homo sapiens!
The two best days in any boat owners life. The day you buy a boat and the day you finally find someone to take it off your hands.
Best 2 days of a man’s life: The day he gets married, and the day he gets divorced!
the day the divorce ruling was finally published in the gazette as final, yes that was a relief. the three years between the surprise of the first court papers arriving along with the monthly bank statements suddenly showing accounts drained to zero.. those were three stressful years.
Ray: Love your concept of the Sea Gypsy Tribe, but I probably missed my opportunity 20+ years ago. I am much too old and too tied down with family to even think about something so out of the box.
I never, ever thought AGW was a problem, other than the progs wanting me to help them pay for their scheme. I just don’t think man has that much affect on long term climate, short of a nuclear winter type scenario.
I have long held the belief that the politicians and other power that be will spend us into oblivion and we will see a breakdown of society when the EBT cards don’t get filled, or there is not enough on them to buy a quart of Colt 45.
Good winds and fair skies, my friend.
