A massive earthquake swarm has been reported around the volcanic island of La Palma in the Canary Islands of Spain. The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) said there’s reason to believe the seismic swarm is due to magma slowly rising.
Involcan recorded more than 700 small earthquakes on La Palma near Cumbre Vieja volcano since last Saturday.
The largest rumble, a 3.4 on the Richter scale, was reported by Involcan on Tuesday morning. Most quakes are shallow and happen 5 to 7.4 miles down, suggesting that new magma is rising.
“Without a doubt, the current seismic swarm represents a significant change in the activity of the Cumbre Vieja volcano and is related to a process of magmatic intrusion under the island of La Palma,” Involcan warned.
According to The Sun, the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Attention to Volcanic Risk Emergencies (PEVOLCA) was activated due to the increased seismic activity.
For clues about a possible eruption. Local officials reported a sensor at the volcano took a reading of the “highest Helium-3 levels in 30-years.” The gas is considered a message from the mantel and may suggest future volcanic activity.
Cumbre Vieja volcano last erupted in 1971, considered one of the most active volcanoes of the Canary Islands. There have been fears an eruption could cause a megatsunami. Steven Ward first explained this theory in research from the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, University of California, Santa Cruz, California, two decades ago.
The situation warrants close monitoring due to the possibility of volcanic activity.
It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. I like the order of the articles on the Burning Platform today
The first,
“A Swarm Of 700 Earthquakes Rattles Canary Islands, Sparks Speculation Of Volcanic Eruption”
And the second,
“Whatever it takes”
Looks like the east coast may be going for a swim.
One can only hope. It would be interesting to see NYC being given an 8 hour warning of inundation.
Only a select few would get the full 8 hours, others would receive 4 hours or less.
Good thing we got the Outer Banks Vaca done!
Maybe God has had enough of our shit and he’s going to pull the plug.
HAS to be due to global warming/cooling/climate change.
More fear mongering. ZH was a great site, 10 years ago.
Just the blue states please, leave Florida alone
In a full on slip event/tsunami Florida will cease to exist along with most of the eastern seaboard of the US.
Great- I always wanted to own beach front property in Western Pennsylvania.
With any lucj the east flank of Kilauea will let go and swamp the entire west coast.
The speculation of the landslide tsunami models for Cumbre Vieja say between 200 and 1,000 foot waves for the east coast. Too much variation to be accurate. 60 foot waves will nuke my shit in Florida though lmao.
Landslides usually do not have swarms precipitate them. Eruptions do. I will worry when it actually happens. Not much to be done other than A and B bag, grab the cats and firearms/ammo and scoot west about 30 miles and wait for the waters to recede and go from there.
Surf’s up!
My farm is 78 miles inland…hmm…beach front property maybe ?
Hmmm, that first image looks like a, well, nevermind.
Good gawd! Only a bureaucrat dikwad could come up with a name like that.
Many hurricanes originate around the Canary Islands. So, fuck ’em.
Many hurricanes originate as a low pressure system coming off North Africa and then across the Canaries.
These same warnings come along about every seven years.

(Naahh, couln’t be talkin’ ’bout us, could it?)
I remember first hearing about this phenomenon back in 2000. It was a BBC production linked below and, as a prophecy, it has haunted me ever since; however, as the scientists point out, the landslide could happen during the next eruption or after another ten or twenty eruptions. There simply is no sure way to know. It is also debatable how much rock will actually dislodge from the rest of the volcano. But given the kind of Black Swans which have been swimming about these days I’m erring on the side of caution and living well inland these days.
If a landslide does occur and if it’s big enough the resulting devastation will make 9/11 look like a child’s game in comparison (no offense intended). It will be FAR more destructive than the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean. So please advise your friends and family to start keeping a close eye on the Cumbre Vieja. This Is Not A Drill.
First heard of this possibility many years ago on some tv program. Have also seen evidence in Alaska of tidal waves entering narrowing, shallowing deadend fjords and piling up hundreds of feet on the sides of the mountains obliterating all vegetation.
Unfortunately most of the ruling elite and congresscritters would be warned and evacuated before the main benefit of such an occurrence could be realized (DC is tidal for some who don’t know).
