Before They Were An Inconvenience, But Now The Shortages Are Really Beginning To Sting

Authored by Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,

Have you noticed that store shelves are starting to get emptier and emptier?  During the panic shopping that was sparked by the start of the COVID pandemic in 2020, there were very intense shortages of certain items, but those shortages did not last very long at all.  But now there are widespread shortages in just about every sector of our economy, and they are starting to become quite painful.  Unfortunately, we are being told to expect the shortages to intensify as we head into the holiday season.  That is extremely alarming, because in many areas the shortages are already quite severe.

I had been away from the news for a couple of days, and when I came back there were lots more stories about our ongoing shortages.  For example, the following comes from an excellent piece by Matt Stoller

There are shortages in everything from ocean shipping containers to chlorine tablets to railroad capacity to black pipe (the piping that houses wires inside buildings) to spicy chicken breasts to specialized plastic bags necessary for making vaccines. Moreover, prices for all sorts of items, from housing to food, are changing in weird ways. Beef, for instance, is at near record highs for consumers, but cattle ranchers are getting paid much less than they used to for their cows.

In my entire life, I have never seen anything like this.

Even the Federal Reserve is admitting that we have a major problem at this point.  In fact, in the latest Beige Book the Fed referred to the shortages a whopping 80 times.

In certain parts of the country, these shortages are really beginning to sting.  A reader just emailed me about what is going on in his section of Connecticut, and he said that I could share this with all of you…

I am just a regular guy in Connecticut, who has been watching things very closely, especially from a Biblical perspective. I wanted to quickly share with you an experience my wife and I had about two weeks ago at a medium-size, family run grocery store near Waterbury, CT.

Seemingly overnight, we noticed there were little yellow signs on the shelves, where certain SKUs used to be. Not entire lines, but individual SKUs. For example, a flavor of oatmeal, certain cereals, etc. The signs said something to the effect of: “This item is no longer available due to supply chain constraints”. I would say there were a few hundred signs in total throughout the store. It wasn’t until we got to the juice/water aisle that we noticed the larger problem: there was no Gatorade (?) and no bottled water (gallon jugs).

I have befriended the manager over the years, so I asked him where the water is, and he told me “…they only will give us so many bottles”. I asked who ‘they’ is, and he said the manufacturer: they were being rationed. As he said this, a truck driver happened to walk by and joined in on the conversation. He told us that he just got back from Maine, after a three-day trip- a trip that normally takes him a few hours. He said he, and all of the other truck drivers, sit at the warehouses for days, waiting for their trucks to be filled. To be clear, I asked him how long it normally takes, and he said a few hours at the most.

On our way out, I remembered that we needed dog food, so we went to the pet aisle, and there was no cat litter, and no dog food, save a few little bags of the cheapest stuff. All of the things Steve Quayle has been saying about food and water shortages suddenly became reality. I always believed him, but now I was seeing it, at the very local level.

We then decided to go to PetSmart to get the dog food. Empty. The entire dog food shelf was empty except for a few bags!

Are similar things happening in your part of the country?

If so, please feel free to email me and let me know.

We need to share intel with one another, because the mainstream media is not telling us the truth.

Of course the shortages would not be as severe if we could actually unload all of the container ships that are backlogged at our ports.  Right now, dozens of container ships are sitting along the west coast waiting to be unloaded

The number of container ships at anchor or drifting in San Pedro Bay off the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has blown through all previous records.

The latest peak: There were an all-time-high 73 container ships in the queue in San Pedro Bay on Sunday, according to the Marine Exchange of Southern California (the tally inched back to 69 on Tuesday). Of the ships offshore Sunday, 36 were forced to drift because anchorages were full.

Theoretically, the numbers — already surreally high — could go even higher than this. While designated anchorages are limited, the space for ships to safely drift offshore is not.

This is the same problem that I talked about the other day.

At one time we had more able-bodied workers than we knew what to do with, but now there is an extreme shortage of workers all over the globe.

Sadly, it has gotten to a point where we don’t even have enough people to drive our kids to school

School districts around the country are struggling to fill thousands of bus driver positions as worker shortages lead to late arrivals and last-minute scrambles to bring retired workers back onto payrolls.

The shortages are so bad in some places that districts are taking extraordinary steps to get kids to school as students return to in-person classes this fall. Philadelphia’s school district will pay families $300 a month, or $3,000 for the year, to opt out of transportation services and get their kids to school on their own. Albemarle County Public Schools in Virginia is offering a $2,500 bonus to new drivers — $100 more than the school district in the county seat, Charlottesville, is offering.

This is the worst labor shortage that the U.S. has ever faced, and it just keeps getting worse.

So where did all the people go?

Without enough able-bodied workers, our economy is experiencing a whole host of difficulties right now.  And when you consider everything else that has been going on, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Joe Biden’s approval rating just sunk to a new record low

Eight months after President Joe Biden’s inauguration, his job approval rating has fallen six percentage points to 43%, the lowest of his presidency. For the first time, a majority, 53%, now disapproves of Biden’s performance.

These findings are from a Sept. 1-17 Gallup poll that was conducted after the U.S. military evacuated more than 120,000 people from Afghanistan. The United States’ exit from the nation’s longest war was marred by the Taliban’s quick takeover of most of the country and a suicide bombing at the airport in Kabul, which killed 13 U.S. service members. Over the same period, COVID-19 infection rates, nationally, were surging, leading to hospital overflows in some regions.

And there are some parts of the nation where his approval rating is absolutely disastrous.  Just check out the latest numbers from Iowa

Just 31% of Iowans approved of how Joe Biden is handling his duties as president while a whopping 62% disapprove. Biden’s disapproval number is below the lowest ever measured by ace pollster J. Ann Selzer for former presidents Donald Trump (35%) and Barack Obama (36%).

“This is a bad poll for Joe Biden, and it’s playing out in everything that he touches right now,” Selzer told the Des Moines Register.

Less than a year ago, a lot of Americans were viewing Biden as some sort of a “savior” figure.

That didn’t exactly work out, did it?

Many of us have been warning that shortages and high levels of inflation were coming for a very long time, but of course most of the population is not interested in such warnings.

They just want to be told that everything is going to be okay.

But the truth is that everything is not going to be okay, and the pain that we have experienced so far is just the beginning.

I noticed the same thing yesterday. Gatorade almost all gone. Then, many office items at Staples gone. I always thought I was a little nuts with the amount of school supplies I buy for cheap in July/August, but it might be good that we have enough markers, pencils, erasers and school glue to last us for years.

We have been trying to buy 20 Mule Team Borax for weeks. Everyone is out. Lowe’s has no idea when they’ll get some.

Picked up a screw in my driver’s side rear tire today. They were w/in 5,000 miles of replacement, so stopped in the local Discount Tire where I trade. They ordered 4 new Michelins. I drive 30-35K/yr. Back in 2018, they were $900. Today? $1,478.00.

They were the last 4 in stock w/in 500 miles of here.

Shadow,

A while back I bought a high end commercial grade 8.5 gallons a minute well head pump, tank, and switch to put with my prep…have two wells for a double wide and a new house on my farm…have a plumber who specializes in wells who is a buddy, he got all three for me at wholesale!

Last Saturday I had to use the spare well head pump as my 22 year old one for the double wide (covers my garden and chicken coop too) dropped from 73lbs of pressure to 28lbs.

Me and another younger buddy pulled out the 257 foot line and switched them out…one long hard afternoon for someone as long in the tooth as me.

But the kicker was my plumber buddy said he hasn’t been able to get a well head pump for two weeks, has two on back order, and it’s a good thing I had that one stashed.

Having my wife buying all kinds of essentials every time she shops to store…everything.

Should have kept the screw. My dad was always the kind of guy who keeps every piece of scrap wood and straightens out nails, so he could have supplies on hand for the next home improvement project (which may or may not ever materialize). It drove my Mom nuts, but it is part of being from that generation. When I was younger, I told him that he does not need to do that any more, since he can always buy what he needs. I don’t say that any more now.

Apparently it’s hard to get a new car these days. I wouldn’t know. Getting some new kitchen appliances has been quite an ordeal. I had to meet a guy from The Underground under a bridge at midnight and bring him a box of chocolate and nylons for his fraulein.

And have you seen the price of beef? $15 a pound for ribeye? The kiddies are like “carp for dinner AGAIN?” Just be glad it’s not bullhead, you ingrates.

damn, ever buy meat in europe?
and i dont mean the garbage industrial meat, i mean actual meat from an actual animal that walked around and ate its proper diet… 25-35 dollars a pound (yes, 50-70 chf/kilo) is typical.
of course the same goes for fuel. you have 4 dollars a gallon in the states and are upset about that. in switzerland for example it’s pretty solidly double that. 1.90 chf/liter for petrol ..

In all fairness, Switzerland is an outlier when it comes to (European) meat prices.

Here are some German meat prices, at a discounter https://www.aldi-sued.de/de/suchergebnis/produkte.html?search=steak

So, newbie preppers, TSHF and you need to catch your food. In the land of fish, carp and bullheads are plentiful (for now) and relatively easy to catch. Can you eat them? How do you catch them, clean them, etc. This little video is a surprisingly good instruction video for the topic at hand.
He’s fishing with a kiddie rod and reel from Wallyworld. I have a pink little princess fishing rod combo, came with a small box of tackle. I will use anything I can find that I think will work as bait. Don’t laugh, it works pretty good for catching dinner. Cast out far enough and if all you get are turtles….there’s a video for that too.

I am glad I replaced my 2006 Honda Civic with a new-to-me 2014 Honda Civic in early 2021 when the a/c on the older car stopped working. Bought newer one on Craigslist: great deal, nice sellers and awesome car. Stick shift, too, which is so much more fun to drive! In hindsight, should have kept the old one for a while longer and could have probably sold it for double of what I got for it.

A few factiods about J.H.

unless there’s been some sort of mistake, JADE HELM actually stands for the amazingly obtuse, Joint Assistance for Deployment Execution Homeland Eradication of Local Militants.

An excerpt from white paper below.

A renewed emphasis on unconventional warfare, including using non-combat techniques to win over hearts and minds and understanding social science to wage psychological operations in communities, has followed on the heels of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A 2013 white paper, “Strategic Landpower: Winning the Clash of Wills,” by Special Forces command Gen. Ray Odierno and Navy Adm. Bill McRaven, who is chancellor of the University of Texas, lays out the argument.

That tiny except is loaded with evil intent.

Someone I know this week told me the cafeteria at the large manufacturer where they worked had set up a table full of porcelain coffee cups and glassware by the drink area.

They were happy because it was like the good ole days and when they said as much to the cafeteria manager she said they could not find paper cups to buy anywhere.

I also know someone else who used to work in a regional hospital with a jab mandate. This person remains unjabbed and unemployed but was talking to the supply chain director yesterday.

The director said they were currently understaffed. When my friend asked if it was because of vaccine refusal, the answer was “no”. It was because a lot of people were sick.

I suspect when the net does go dark, it will be to prevent posts like this one; because the narratives will have become unsustainable.

I have a NJ vaxx mandate deadline due on October 18th. I have absolutely no intention of complying with NJ’s EO 253- they can go fuck themselves and fire me. Firing about 25% of the staff will pretty much cripple their transportation department servicing two high schools, two middle schools, four elementaries, and two vocational schools.

Lose my job? Don’t care.
Lose my pension? Don’t care.
Lose my home? Don’t care.
Lose my health? Yeah, that matters and I won’t be killing myself to live. If it means moving out of state to survive, by all means, I will go.

I’m old enough to remember some of the corner stores that every neighborhood used to have. They were mostly gone by the early 1980’s. There were even more when my mother was a child. She used to say they were limited on supplies. For example, there wasn’t an entire aisle of cereal- she said you had rolled oatmeal, cornflakes, grape nuts, and shredded wheat (and it wasn’t frosted bite-sized!). Fruit and vegetables were limited and seasonal. You could buy oranges right before the holidays. Iceberg lettuce was usually available.

She said there was no frozen food section, and usually one of the guys was a butcher, so you could get those products. Dairy products were no problem, but there sure weren’t 20 kinds of cheese. There were lots of canned goods, and every basic staple you would need. She said no one went hungry because EVERYONE COOKED EVERYTHING. One time I saw her laugh at people buying “Texas Toast” from the frozen section. She said they made it decades ago- you cut some slices off a loaf of home made bread, then toasted it in a cast iron skillet with a bit of butter and some seasoning.

I have a feeling that soon the people who don’t know how to cook or are too lazy to are about to become sorely disappointed.

A friend of ours lives on takeout. Literally. I don’t think she knows how or has ever even attempted to cook a single meal for herself. It is not even the money she spends or the dependence on restaurants why I feel sorry for her, but she misses out on one of the great joys in life: the feel and smell of freshly cut wholesome vegetables and herbs, the anticipation, creativity and excitement of preparing the meal, and then, if you are so inclined, inviting friends over to sit together and enjoying the meal in togetherness, joy and gratitude for having each other and having the food to nourish all of you.

The ones under the age of 30 generally are a real mess. Most can’t do much of anything. If they can cook, they don’t clean up, or vice versa, but seldom both. Most just aren’t into cooking. I suppose that looking at the latest IdiotPhone every other minute interferes with that.

A family moved in the house next to me last January. The missus is 22, already tatted up the wazoo, and is as lazy as they come. She throws stuff down and never picks it up. The neighbors across the street have already called the city in on them once, so there’s hard feelings in the “hood”.

The husband, 26, has about twice the tattoos of his woman. He does work all day, but does nothing when he comes home. After the city told him they would charge $700/hour to clean up their mess, his daddy came up here all the way from Florida and they spent about 4 full days cleaning up the mess. It was about a month ago and now it’s just as trashy as ever.

These young ones are going to be called the weeping and wailing generation one of these days, but I’m not going to be crying for them.

YUP..and not just grocery stores…every store from hardware to clothing. Just wait until all of the vaccine mandates to work start kicking in. Government just released their guidance for federal contractors. All contractors (which are private businesses) must have their employees vaccinated in order to work on a contract. These contracting companies are talking about losing 30% of their employees going into the new year. The deadline is December 8th. Hospitals and health care facilities are going through the same issues. Next it will be grocery stores and fast food joints. Things are going to get MUCH worse.

God is not a God of fear. God wants you to live a life of victory. I’m pretty sure that’s in the bible.

In closing, you should be aware that Snyder sucks DDD.

Aldis in the bastard state of NJ doesn’t sell beer or wine. You have to go retail or out of state for affordable beer. If it disappears I still know how to brew my own.
