QUOTES OF THE DAY

“War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country’s most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle-man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers.

In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small ‘inside’ group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many.

Out of war a few people make huge fortunes. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights.”

Major General Smedley Butler, War Is a Racket

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”

Dwight D. Eisenhower

“The wealth of another region excites their greed; and if it is weak, their lust for power as well. Nothing from the rising to the setting of the sun is enough for them. Among all others only they are compelled to attack the poor as well as the rich. Plunder, rape, and slaughter they falsely call empire; and where they make a desert, they call it peace.”

Tacitus

“War, what’s it good for.”

Smedley and Dwight were Government and Military Company Men, and had seen who (((they))) actually worked for,as well the error of their ways, especially now that they were at their mortal ends and probably looking for forgiveness and salvation from their fellow Americans.

The propaganda that potential recruits and service members are endlessly indoctrinated with is always “you are doing the right thing and you are the Good Guys, the people support the troops, etc”. The lower IQ ones just nod and agree, but the smarter ones realize the insanity of what the USGOV is doing and usually leave after one term of service.

My many years of military service trained and punished my body, but the skill sets I leaned and more importantly, the spiritual and mental resiliency skill sets have proven and will be endlessly valuable in the current cold war we have now, but especially for the upcoming hot war we are herded towards and heading into in the future.

And the Romans, such a pithy and brilliantly observant bunch.
To bad they couldn’t save their society.

Elaine, it’s the nature of man to War.
Deal with it or get dealt.

YMMV.
