Having claimed they were going to give the money to their choice of charities they have rapidly backed down and told the people who donated to request a refund by 19th February.
Two things happened that concentrated their minds. Operation Chargeback where people were told to use their bank/card’s chargeback option on the basis of fraud which attracts a chargeback fee of $15 per person for GoFundMe.
The other option was forcing GoFundMe into arbitration which Owen Benjamin did with Patreon. For a minor filing fee, Patreon had to pay $2,000 per claim and so far has had to fork out $2m.
Current official fundraiser is on GiveSendGo a Christian company now approved by the Canadian Convoy.

This is only about their 25000th horrible violation of the rights of supposedly free people by them. When will folks stop using them? There are plenty of other folks who will not judge but simply perform the service of processing donations.

The Ottowa Police Chief says he is working with the intelligence services including the DHS and FBI to investigate all of the truckers including their finances, business and personal details. They are also finding the truckers every day. They are still determined to get rid of the truckers. Another report says they are putting up concrete barriers to pen the truckers in and are sending undercover agents in to spy on them and possibly agitate people to create ‘crimes’ they can be charged with. There are plenty of dirty tricks being used.
The fundraiser should’ve NEVER been run thru GoFundMe. It doesn’t take a Ph.D. or any type of esoteric understanding of things to have predicted that this would happen, based upon how GoFundMe has handled past fundraisers for enemies of the leftist narrative, such as Kyle Rittenhouse.
I pointed this out in a past comment thread, but someone (I think it was Francis Marion) said it was a “lack of experience” that made the organizers use GoFundMe as the fundraising platform. But there are “sophisticated” people assisting the truckers, such as lawyers. And how much “experience” does one really need to understand what GoFundMe has done in the past? Do an internet search (not on Google, please). Kind of a basic thing to do before you run a multi-million dollar fundraiser, right? Research the credibility of the fundraising platform?
I support the truckers and the protests, but I didn’t donate any money because the fundraiser was on GoFundMe and I knew what would happen to the funds. (And I ain’t no genius.)
This is why the conservatives/Right always loses to the leftists, despite being on the correct side of 99% of the issues: a lack of guile and an abundance of naivety.
I don’t think they knew this would garner so much support. They are quite literally overwhelmed by the outpouring. I would say tho that once it reached a million or two that they should have reconsidered and went with a different payment provider. But hindsight is always 20/20

I live in a rural area outside Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Today I donated some food to our fighters for freedom truckers. On the way home I saw some farmers driving their tractors (it is minus 24 degrees celsius outside, or minus 11 degrees farenhuit) to participate in a farmers freedom convoy. For many years I have been sceptical of Canada because of how docile and accepting we are of Government centralisation and Government by decree. Seeing this non compliance has given me cause for pride in Canada for the first time in decades.
Thanks for the tip, I have never thought of heading to local fire departments to see if they accept donations for the protests … it’s a crazy time out there right now. Lets hope these protests expose governments for the bolsheviks they are ….
Let’s hope this is a wake-up call for the docile Canucks: do not let things get so far out of hand again that such drastic measures are needed to straighten things out.
