QOTD: WOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS OFFER?

Question of the Day submitted by Mr. Liberty

Consider that someone came to you and said that they could enable you to experience god/God, the Divine state of being, total consciousness, or whatever your personal term might be for the ultimate state of existence (and you could then come back to the reality you normally experience). No doubt a life-altering experience, if you believe that such a thing is even possible (and some might very well not – which is also fine).

1.  Would you take that offer – and if not, why not?

2.  Would you still take that offer if If such an experience offered a 50:50 chance that everything you thought you knew or believed in would be found to be false or deserving of reassessment?

Personally I would absolutely take that offer, regardless of the outcome.  I have always been in search of the truth.  I think that I have already found it, so I wouldn’t be worried.  I’m not going to add any quotes, images, or anything else to bias any thoughts.  Just the questions.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to offer up your thoughts.  No wrong answers from where I sit.  Everyone is where they are and that is valid for them.

I took the “offer” except that nobody came to me, I just found it to be all around me, and free -except for the cost of buying a few books-, in 2019.

And I’m still working through the “[almost] everything you thought you knew or believed in [turned out] to be false or deserving of reassessment” part.

Sounds to me like a DMT trip. Which I only know from reading first-hand accounts of the experience.

The problem is, those who take the trip come back believing they’ve encountered truth for the first time, when what they’ve encountered is phantoms from the Abyss. But try telling that to one of these self-styled “psychonauts.”

We heard a ‘holy man’ giving a talk some years ago … and his take was that every action of our lives takes us either a step towards God, or a step away from God. We need to determine which way we wish to go …

Personally, I’ve found that it’s extremely hard living according to those words — reminds me of ‘The Razor’s Edge’ sort of experience of life — but with God’s Love and Mercy and Grace, we can do it.

Love and life and light and joy to one and all …

I was raised in a very strict, cult-like Christian denomination since I was a child…
They were (are) convinced they have the ABSOLUTE TRUTH. After several years of personal struggles and doubts, I finally broke free in my early 40’s, but was cut-off from all former friends and family as a result.
It’s been a tough journey of deprogramming/reawakening and self-discovery, but well worth the freedom and peace I now have, despite all the loss and loneliness.
I’ve come to believe that none of us will know the REAL TRUTH until the LORD JESUS returns and sets matters straight once and for all, or until we die and find out what comes next…
I usually just listen and lurk here at this site, but find comfort among you all as kindred spirits…

It is a shame that so many “Christian” churches have become more like cults while others stay on the cutting edge of the cultural revolution. We are so fortunate to have found a New Testament believing church with a pastor who teaches from the Bible every single week.

Yes and yes. I am as certain as I can be that consciousness is eternal and that body death results in a period of existence where one confronts the life just led. Each life is a time for learning what to do and what not to do until as the Bible says, two become one.

5. GThomas saying 3: The Kingdom is inside you, and outside you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will realize it is you who are the sons of the living Father.

Not to be argumentative, but did not Jesus appear in human form making such an offer? My question was more about the experience of the “divine state” than “who” makes it possible or how it is made possible. And please don’t take my question as being disrespectful. My head is where it is relative to this issue and so might not be sensitive to the specific take each individual might have.

But you didn’t say Jesus. You said someone, which would mean in our time .This someone would be human, thus incapable of sharing anything of divine origin, except the word of God , and at that point it’s up to the individual to seek God. Also, if its god you seek, then your seek hell. Not a good place to be, I’ve read.

What an interesting QOTD. Kudos, Lib.

So many thoughts…

1. I would take the opportunity, just out of sheer curiosity. BUT, I also believe there’s a mysterious, very good reason why this is not an option offered by the supreme creator / being.
Some might say God has given us hints, or rare examples to pique our interest or curiosity.
Elizabeth Kubler Ross wrote books of people’s experiences when they were clinically ‘dead’, who reported what
they saw / felt / heard, while in that other realm, only to be figuratively made aware that their time wasn’t quite finished yet, in the earthly realm, for lack of a better way to describe it.
By most measures, what awaits us on the other side is pleasant and pure bliss, based on such accounts.

Conversely, I’ve read a couple reports of guys who had lived a life of cruelty, violence, anger, etc. toward others during most of their days, and when THEY briefly transitioned on the gurney in the hospital, they were given a very frightening glimpse of hell and all it portends for those who have that as their ultimate destiny.
Again, my words, for perhaps a lack of a better way to describe it.
A couple of those such men, made it Priority # 1 to get right with God, after glimpsing the other side, but
being told their time wasn’t up just yet. Hmmm.

Believable? Who knows. We’ve heard it said that The Lord Works in Mysterious Ways.

Will all our questions get answered? About fair justice? And all the other things that just don’t make sense to
reasonable, caring people for the most part?

Maybe one reason that we can’t see for certain what’s on the other side is, that once experienced, we wouldn’t want to come back to the earthly realm, as it is probably way inferior to what’s in store for most of us after we transition.

And conversely to that, let’s say an evildoer is shown his destination of hell, but instead of it being a wake up call to get right with The Lord upon returning to the earthly realm, he cops the attitude of “Screw it. I’m already condemned, so I might as well go out in a blaze of evil glory, a la the mass murderers who have lost all hope, but
still revere the violence and pain inflicted upon others, as an homage to The Evil One.

On question #2, I’m with you, Lib. I’d still take it, because personally, I believe that if we are deemed to be given explanations of How, What, Why, and Where, that we are going to be enlightened and made aware of things beyond our wildest possible imaginations.

For instance, what if…
All your (our) ancestors who’ve already passed before us…
What if they’re not “already in Heaven”, waiting for us?
That doesn’t mean we won’t see them again, but consider…
What if, after my father passed some 38 years ago, his soul is simply in a “holding pattern”, with no concept of time, or delay, but merely “In suspension” …perhaps until the 2nd coming of Christ?
Somebody who died 2 years ago? Same holding pattern, with no sense of time, or delayed notice of if they
“qualify to pass St. Peter and the pearly gates, and gain entry”, again, for lack of a better description of an
ultimate goal?

Preposterous? Maybe.
All that said, Nobody Really Knows.
And that’s why your QOTD is so fascinating to contemplate, IMHO.
I think we’re in for some incredible discoveries and experiences after we cross over.

As someone on the platform said once before, regarding Faith, (maybe it was me; IDK)
I’d rather believe in Him, and gamble on being disappointed in the next realm, than
Disbelieve in Him, and live a life of debauchery on earth, only to cross over and have to face Him,
and account for why I didn’t believe, didn’t serve; didn’t treat others as I wished to be treated.

But, as always, in the end analysis, to each their own, on ways of Belief, Faith, and Life in the Hereafter.

Carry on, Heathens!

~Cheers

The entire concept of “God” is a man made scam to attempt to legitimize authoritarian rule.

If you look at all religions, they all plagiarize each other with one being built on the myths and tenants of the past ones. Christianity steals from Judaism which stole from ancient Egyptian religions, and Sun worship.
The holidays of the Christian religion are still based upon the solar equinox and solstices. The birth and death of the ( Sun / Son ) God. The myth of virgin birth began with the Egyptian God Ra ( Sun / Son) and Horus. Egyptian religion was also where other tenants of so called miracles used by later religions were formed.

1) The Annunciation: the god Taht announcing to the virgin Queen that she is about to become a mother.

2) The Immaculate Conception: the god Kneph (the holy spirit) mystically impregnating the virgin by holding a cross, the symbol of life, to her mouth.

3) The Birth of the Man-god.

4) The Adoration of the newly born infant by gods and men, including three kings (or Magi?), who are offering him gifts. In this sculpture the cross again appears as a symbol.

By claiming to have the authority of, and being agents of “God”, man has enslave other men more tens of thousands of years, and despite our supposed evolution, it continues today.

But does the abuse of the concept of God, human’s fear of death, etc. inherently negate the possibility of a divine state of existence or the existence of a divine “being?”

And would not the unexplainable and profound majesty of life, existence, and similar, not be more the root of a belief in a “divine” more so than the need to justify authoritarian rule? I am speaking of course generically over the history of man.

The point is there is no proof whatsoever of a “Devine God”. It is far more likely that the universe itself is a living unit and somewhere within it there is a life source. It does not need to have conscience, any more than nature or animals do. Every living thing could draw its life force from the universe, and it goes back to the universe at the end of life. Much like an electrical system draws current from a battery and it flows back to the battery after use. The evidence is, that life exists everywhere possible, and to the degree if flourishes, it evolves.
To look at man, it is clear that people are still an evolving animal, primarily controlled by his animal instincts and not by intelligence. If you think some God created man to be the way he is, than that god must be a real screw up, because mankind is a retched excuse for a creation.

To become part of a community, and of a ‘society’ that is worth it’s denotation, you need to:

– Identify a highest truth, and realize that highest truth is higher than yourself (in importance.)

This can be achieved without religion, but you end up at a point that is indistinguishable from Religion.
If you thought long and hard enough about it, you will find other people came to the same or a very similar conclusion.

There then a few steps more to become a full Christian in faith [in my understanding],
step 1 is to define an ultimate goal (for that highest truth/moral you identified before), step 2 to realize it cannot be ever achieved, and step 3 to accept that realized [earthly] imperfection and still work towards betterment, forever.
But the above basic proposition is the requirement.

Either Jesus Christ is the King of Kings, or He isn’t.

And Biblical Christianity is utterly exclusive, and states repeatedly in Scripture that all other systems of belief or philosophies are vanity to the core. That’s as black-and-white as it gets.

There is no possibility that the contradictory systems are all right. Not on any level.

I took that offer the first time I was handed a KJB round about 11 years ago. Had little idea what a life altering experience it would be. Everything I thought I knew, from the most basic principles and constructs to the far more complex, had to be reassessed due to the light it shined where once there was none.

Hebrews 4:12 KJB… “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

No, for a few reasons.

1. I would not accept that kind of offer from a human.

2. I feel like I’ve already experienced the Divine on multiple occasions in various ways.

3. I trust His timing to speak to me when needed, as needed.

Also, what may sound strange to most analytical thinkers, I have moments where I experience omniscient flashes that go beyond earthly concerns. They are quick (few seconds) and powerful. “…. that someone came to you and said that they could enable you to experience god/God, the Divine state of being …. the ultimate state of existence “

First of all, WHO is that “someone” making the offer? Lord Fauchi? The pope? You? Not one human who ever lived, or will live, has the authority or ability to make such a thing come to pass. Only God does.

So, for that reason I would reject the offer. A million religions have come and gone based on what the founder of that particular religion promised. Why believe this new dude or dudette?

The second reason I reject it because the dude is offering snake oil. Here’s the deal; let’s say the human brain is represented by one single atom. How would God’s “brain” be represented? Well … by every atom in the entire universe … for God is IN all things and without Him nothing would exist. And this dude is selling the idea that we can experience this ultimate state of existence???? Give me a break. The finite can never fully experience the infinite.

Even in a resurrected body that soul may now be eternal. but it’s still not infinite, especially in terms of knowledge. I’m betting that even the resurrected dead living in heaven won’t experience one-billionth of what it means to be I AM.

The third reason I reject it is because ultimately HOW would I know that I know that my experience was real? How would I know what I experienced wasn’t just a dream, a vision, an illusion …. or even an incredible trick played by a super superior race of aliens who just discovered earth? There just is no way to know what I experienced is real, no matter how you slice that cake.

The final reason I would reject it is because —-> who would believe my fantastical tale?? Maybe Joel Olsteen if he could make a buck off it? Having experienced the ultimate (to some degree) and not being able to share in that joy, especially with those I love or care about, would probably drive me to the grave. Really.

In closing, the adventure comes in the searching, … not the finding. As such, I’d rather just wait until I die, thank you.

Such a book has been written, and it has been out since the 1960′ s. The Tigers Fang.

who cares?

Stare into the abyss and it stares back at you thought. I’m not so sure what I would do. I have come to the point that I don’t watch a lot of modern horror type shows. I think there is more evil than we recognize and to actually see the depth of it would be traumatic.

Why is your assumption negative regarding the “divine state of being?”

No. and No. As curious as I am and desirous of truth I’m afraid that such premature knowledge would destroy me. I am content to discover and take in God’s truth in small, daily doses commensurate with my ability to digest it. At the very least I think it would destroy my faith, contrary to popular belief, rather than build it. Hebrews 11-1 says ” faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT seen.” Once one sees the unseen, hoped for totality of truth, then there is no more room for faith–only room for acceptance of what you have seen.
So far now I’ll just look through the glass darkly and say with Thomas, ” I believe, Lord help my unbelief”.

There is no Superman, super-powers, ultimate state of existence, or any of that other claptrap. If there were, I doubt humans could handle it. Besides, the worst thing you can do to a human is give them everything they want. All of our “elected” “leaders” are prime examples of what happens to humans who believe they can have whatever they want or are free to pursue their own version of self-actualization; they are lost, ruined, narcissistic, destructive, amoral, ruthless, murderous. Klaus Schwab is a moron.

The value of life is the struggle, finding the will and strength to persevere against odds, the inner satisfaction that comes from finding strength inside.

We need a new frontier. We are at our best when we get aboard ships and sail over the horizon.

I read Pollan’s How To Change Your Mind. I’m aware of the newly legitimate ~ “profit”/taxing seeking ~ researches into psychedelics & hallucinogens & how some/many link those trips to spirituality & cures. I’ve heard Rogan go on about it (also heard his fearful response to corona, despite having blown mind & achieving oneness, which begs a question or two…). I “died” once & experienced none of the trademarked/copyrighted sightseeing. But the walking dreams of childhood seemed saturated reality at the time.

So yeah, the prospect of retracing Hurt’s path in Altered States, or something like it, would be interesting. If no untoward downsides could be guaranteed, which I don’t think is the case. But no matter the trip contents I think when the unaltered uninebriated consciousness-mine returned, perspective would incline to “no sale” as to the metaphysical parts of the pitch.

Its interesting to see the number of folks who regard the “divine state of being” or similar as a “bad thing.”

If I knew it was legit I would take the trip immediately. Key phrase…’knew it was legit’. LSD is great, DMT, psilocybin, peyote, all great in their way but ultimately all self referencing altered mental states. So, none of that crap, only the real deal, and how could one know it was legit?

Think You would need to ask Moses and Elijah, seems they came back to talk to Jesus the one time…”The dead know nothing”, stated fate for the rest of us, exceptions aside.

Thanks for all the replies. It has been most interesting reading them all (and I did read them all – and will check back in case any new ones get added). As I said, we all get to where we all are and where that is is all fine from where I stand.

Just take some DMT. You’ll come away from that experience a changed person.

I had that experience in the form of an NDE and it’s a rush to cross over and have unlimited knowledge. All my questions were answered, but when I came back into my body I lost everything except the knowing that such a state of being exists.
I can’t say this is the way it works for everyone, but it gave me the power to overcome fear of death.

As a teen juvenile delinquent, during my summer of incarceration at forestry camp I indulged/experimented with LSD. I never thought the same again. The lines between good and evil, important and superfluous became overwhelmingly clear. It was as if I had matured and shed so much that was base. I am not sure how that happened or why. I have never looked back since. I know what I am and what I have is good, it is also enough.
