The Kremlin Has Missed the Opportunity to End the Provocations of Russia that Are Bringing the World to Nuclear War

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

As I emphasized from the beginning, Russia’s intervention in Ukraine was far too little and far too late.  I have no doubt that the Kremlin will achieve its goal of cleansing the Donbass republics of the Western-supported Nazi Azov brigade and the Ukrainian army, but the Kremlin has pissed away the far more important opportunity to end all Western provocations of Russia.

If Russia had hit Ukraine with a devastating conventional all-inclusive attack, the war would have ended before it started.  No members of the puppet Ukrainian government would be alive.  There would be no communication and transportation capabilities in Ukraine except Russian military ones.  An awesome demonstration of what happens when you over-provoke a superior military power would have European countries scrambling to get out of NATO, not join as Finland and Sweden evidently are.  Instead of scaring off would-be provokers, the Kremlin’s ill-considered go-slow limited intervention has encouraged more encirclement of Russia and more aggression on the part of Washington, NATO members, and Ukraine.

The Kremlin has provided Washington with two months to create a narrative that is very much to Russia’s disadvantage and encourages others to take a more open and more hard line against Russia. Europeans are willing to suffer hardships themselves in order to inflict some hardship on Russians. NATO members provide Ukraine not only with moral support but also with weapons.  Washington has announced extensive deliveries of heavy weapons to Ukraine and, even more provocatively, to provide intelligence and targeting information for Ukrainian missile attacks on Crimea.  As Crimea is now part of Russia, planned attacks on Crimea are direct evidence that Washington intends to widen the war.  It is obvious, as it was from the beginning, that Russia will have to attend to Ukraine far beyond Donbass. The idea that it could be a limited operation with a limited goal was absurd.

Indeed, Russia is going to have to tend with situations far beyond the borders of Ukraine.  The previous Russian president, currently deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, warned that nuclear escalation will be the consequence of entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO.

See:  https://news.sky.com/story/russia-threatens-nuclear-escalation-if-sweden-and-finland-join-nato-12589823

And:  https://tass.com/politics/1437715

As I said would be the case, the failure of Russia to impress the West with an overwhelming exercise of military force in Ukraine means another step has been taken toward nuclear armageddon.

The rush to nuclear war is not primarily Russia’s fault.  It is the West that is being provocative, not Russia. The West turned a cold shoulder to Russia’s security concerns.  The West armed and trained the Ukrainian army and Nazi militia and pointed them at the Donbass Russians. The West placed US missiles in Romania and Poland and now in Slovakia.  It is Washington that is pursuing hegemony, not the Kremlin.

The Kremlin’s responsibility is in the weakness of its responses to provocations.  First ignoring them for years, making only pointless diplomatic protests.  Then when finally forced to intervene in Ukraine, doing so in as limited a way as possible and in a time-consuming way that gives Washington control of the explanation and opportunities to widen the conflict beyond the boundary of the Kremlin’s limited operation.

The Saker and Andrei Martyanov stress the superiority of Russian military tactics and weapon systems, but these important capabilities do not provide the margin of victory when the Kremlin is forever reacting minimally to the initiatives of Washington.  The Kremlin’s inability to be proactive and unwillingness to clear Washington’s fifth column out of Russia’s ruling circles will be the hallmarks of Russian defeat.

The German journalist Thomas Röper (anti-spiegel), already living in Russia for 20 years, was asked about PCR’s Tuesday Morning Quarterbacking:

“Sure, it would have been much easier militarily, to defeat the back then disorganized Ukrainian military. But the economic sanctions, if they had been invoked in 2014 or 2015 at the same level as of today, Russia would not have been able to survive.
And already since 2000, Putin had tried to diversify Russia’s economy away from just gas and oil, and had failed. Only since 2014 -with the light sanctions after the Krim referendum-, they started in earnest as they were then forced to do so. Since 2014, Russia has become independent agriculturally and in many other areas.”

“PCR’s Tuesday Morning Quarterbacking:”

That’s all PCR knows these days. Constantly with his “Putin should have done this, that, or the other”.

As such, I don’t read his articles anymore. Why should I? I know what he’s going to spew forth …. useless bullshit. Really, of what use are all these “shoulds”? Nothing! That makes his articles worthless bullshit, imho.

Dismayed that 18 people made a comment … including me (what a maroon).

Unless it’s all part and parcel of the same show.

No one ever suggests that possibility. Not anyone who is still published, that is.

Your comment shows you know neither current events nor history, not eschatology and you didn’t read the second link or listen to the first one and haven’t heard Zelensky call Ukraine Big Israel.
You just shot from the hip about something you know nothing about. Nothing new about that here.
Better stay on the “Company” knowledge Rez where you are safe.

If you were running a WEF script, and Putin is a Klaus University alumus, and needed WWIV (WWIII was the cold war) to democide the rest of the world population because not enough ppl took your death shots, well here you go.

This is like deja vu to me honestly, with Putin/Russia playing the Republicans who never defend us, against the EU/NATO who are playing the democraps never failing to attack us.

Malthus must have been right, or this whole thing, whether or not my hypothesis holds true, couldn’t have happened. I know that kings and countries over the millennia have killed all the smart, independent thinking, and revolutionary minded ppl, but come on, if we’re all domesticated livestock no different than chickens, we get what we deserve.

I’m just tired of waiting for the coup d’grace.

PCR needs to sit down and shut the hell up. Russia purposely didn’t shell Ukraine back to the Stone Age to minimize casualties and infrastructure damage.

So tired of these “conservatives” who think that Russia was going to pull an Iraq War “shock and awe” campaign and just destroy everything and kill everybody. No one outside the U.S. fights a war like that.

It is becoming apparent that Paul Craig Roberts is more concerned about punishing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization nations than about how unfairly the Russians are being treated. The Atlantic led nations, along with other United States allies, are sinking themselves with counterproductive sanctions, and destabalizing health policies. The Russians know this so they are staying focused achieving their goals along their border areas. Grand global geopolitical goals would be a case of putting the cart before the horse. Russia will, in all liklihood achieve their goals in Ukraine, and Georgia. Their enemies meanwhile (which includes my country of Canada) will defeat themselves.
As much as Mr. Roberts wants to punish the United States/United Kingdom led alliance through Russian actions it is not necessarily in Russian interests to do so. Why should they do the dirty work of overthrowing the Global authoritarian leaders. That is the responsibility of those nations citizens

The United States of America is not specifically mentioned in end time prophecy. Russia is mentioned.
Babylon is mentioned. Israel is mentioned. Egypt is mentioned. Iran, Turkey, Syria, Gomer, Ethiopia and the Kings of the East are mentioned.
Hmmmm. Wonder why the largest and previously most powerful nation on earth is not even mentioned?
The Bible says that none was able to make war with the beast. Maybe America is Babylon and doesn’t get destroyed until near the end, but America is never specifically mentioned.

So Putin should have used “shock and awe’ like the US did in Iraq that killed 500,000 Iraqi children that Mad Hatty Albright says was an “acceptable outcome”? Putin should be like the US monsters? Really?

NO. There is a LOT more to know, like…

Zelensky is a sock puppet installed by the USA. He’s also a neo Nazi.

The USA is funding bioweapons labs on Russia’s front porch…and hiding it from the American public.

The West is bankrupt and NEEDS this war to reset its criminal institutions.

PCR…the same guy who said on Greg Hunter’s show that NATO wouldn’t get involved in this Ukraine mess. What a clueless has been! Any idiot could have predicted that NATO would get dragged into this by their hair the moment Russia put boots on the ground. Now here we are.

As usual, PCR is spot on. What he doesn’t mention is that Russia has half the population of the US and about half the men and munitions to fight a protracted war. Attrition of both is now occurring and can’t be replaced fast enough to sustain this war while the US, NATO, EU & the UN has virtually inexhaustible numbers of men and munitions. Russia is now being encircled on all sides and they will be like a cornered bear being worn down by 100 blood hounds. They will either capitulate and become a part of the great reset cabal or say to-hell-with-it and launch their hypersonic missiles and 200 mph nuclear torpedoes. Suggest everybody have sufficient potassium iodide on hand.
