Funny how we just did a This Day in History about the Dust Bowl storms sweeping across the Midwest in 1934. Now 88 years later it’s happening again. Fourth Turnings sure are interesting in their parallels. I wonder what happens next?
Rare Haboob Rips Through Northern Plains
Parts of the Northern Plains experienced a rare weather phenomenon on Thursday evening called a “haboob.”
A haboob is a dust storm commonly seen in deserts, though one was spotted sweeping across parts of Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota.
While the Northern Plains doesn’t have deserts, there’s been plenty of dust following a megadrought that has consumed parts of the Central US.
The National Weather Service tweeted footage of a fast-moving haboob traversing Sioux Falls, South Dakota, transforming the day instantly into the night.
63 mph wind gust here at the office shortly after 4 pm, but many reports of 80+ mph across the region with significant structural damage and trees down!! Please let us know what happened in your area. pic.twitter.com/WlkOg1L2ED

The haboob was also spotted in Little Rock, Iowa. A local news team was trapped in their vehicle with zero visibility as the dust rolled through.

The weather event on Thursday in parts of the Northern Plains is super rare and appears similar to dust storms during the ‘Dust Bowl’ era of the 1930s. Farmers in the region are battling either arid conditions or soggy fields, suggesting crop production could be underwhelming this growing season, adding to food inflation pressures for grains.

Geez and here I am worried about a lack of rain this whole week. Last year we had 121″ of rainfall here in Northern NY. I am sure we will get about the same and I won’t complain one bit.
I’ve been predicting a crash for ten years, so you should seek investment advice elsewhere. My Vanguard IRA doesn’t allow the purchase of short funds.
Got you beat by 2 decades. Stopped clock is right twice a day.
And it’s only May. See how green everything is?
I wonder how much topsoil & pesticides, etc are in that “dust”
can’t be healthy to breathe
They wouldn’t let you put anything on a field if it was bad for you
Most of the shelterbelts planted as a result of the Dust Bowl have been removed. Farmers are subsidized whether they plant them or remove them. I wonder which they choose…

This is still America where the English language is commonly used – its called a “dust storm”.
Experienced a dust storm in OK in the mid-60’s. It was like a red cloud headed straight for us. Mom got all of us to grab towels and shove under doors and window sills, but the house still got a lot of dust in it.
Had the privilege of being in a serious sandstorm in New Mexico (they closed the Interstate).
Sandstorm safety tip: 1) do not leave your shelter / get out of your vehicle; 2) if for some reason you choose to violate rule #1, do not open your eyes while doing so. You will regret it.
Great advice, especially for those who wear contacts.
Went through one in Grand Forks ND in 1977 that came from the west and was black as night and left dust everywhere inside the house.
This is exactly what happened in the 30’s, only the general populace was well more resilient and capable then
Buckle up, buckaroo
…and ended up in California and Arizona.
Gotta’ watch out for them ‘boobs man…..
Never take my eyes off of them.
No electricity in Brookings (home of South Dakota State University) and the local utility asked people not to use water. All of the people who were out driving around last night are panicking because they can’t get any gas. There’s not many options for food, as the WalMart is closed (rip grocery inventory) and the Hy-Vee is running on a generator; oh, and you can’t cook anything unless you have a grill.
A fitting preview of what is to come for all Americans under the communist Obama/Biden regime.
So flippin what.
I just changed browsers and can barely negotiate TBP with ads on ads infinitum. A little much methinks.
I switched to Opera a month ago. ZERO popups. And that’s with NO Adblocker!!
Switch to Brave. Ads blocked by default, at source; i.e. not downloaded at all. Faster, without bloatware, and no following you.
Written by Brendan Eich, who wrote the first browser, Netscape, then went on to co-found Mozilla, and write their browser, Firefox. He got fired by Mozilla under pressure from a mob who objected to his personal contribution to an organisation supporting traditional marriage.
Brave’s search currently uses DuckDuckGo, which uses Google’s internet indexes; but Brave search is in beta test, and you can use it. It has its own indexes and algorithms, so no skewed searches or following you.
Look into it.
Haboob / definition / noun; / a small article of clothing for Mooslim women. On very hot days a woman is not required to wear a full hajib …. she may wear one that covers only her titties — a haboob.
