Actually, it wasn’t me who submitted this QOTD but I’ll take the credit.
Actually, no.
Fixed it.
I dream constantly that I cannot find something or I cannot adjust
something and wake up so frustrated I cannot go back to sleep for
over an hour. I have figured out it is our society giving me this.
I can’t find a way to fix it, and I can’t find a way to adjust to it.
I need to become a man apart from this.
It is cascading into evil.
Ammo up.
I see America burning to the ground.
Wait I’m awake.
I do.
Yes, I have had many. This one stands out. I awoke with the same song, Bus stop, for about 25 days straight. Only a few words here and there. It was very frustrating. I knew the divine is trying to tell me something. Finally, I had a dream of figuring out what the song meant. I would be married in a year. By Autumn she was mine are the words in the song. If the interpretation was right, the dream song would stop, and it did. I was married a year later, and that was the start of many miracles in the meeting of my wife, who is from Taiwan.
My dream song was the days before the internet. So, the only thing I could do was listen to the radio in Seward Alaska.
All we had was KOMA Oklahoma City, but only after dark. I can still hear the jingle.
I lived in OK and had KOMA all day and night. We used to pick up WNOE (New Orleans) and WLS (Chicago) some nights.
Not recurring dreams that happen frequently, but very similar ones happen once in a while over a very long period of time (maybe years apart, but memorable enough to remember they are the same).
One for sure is getting kind of lost and not being able to go back the way I came, and eventually not get back ANY way I go. After many attempts at going different ways I think should work but don’t, inevitably I run into some kind of dead end, or a massive cliff, or open a door to nowhere, realize there is no going back from where ever no matter which way I go. Then wake up.
An alternate long interval recurring dream, in some ways not so different than the previous, is being in the same big house, not a house I’ve ever lived in or even like it although in the dream I own that house. It has grounds around it, and has some age. The ground floor is pretty normal. It has stairs or doors that lead to other stories, doors, hallways and rooms. The higher I go, the more in disrepair and creepy it gets. If I get to the attic, the roof is leaking and it’s awful.
Not nightmares exactly, but disturbing. Most of the time I’d swear I don’t dream at all, but I know that’s probably not true.
Scenario is always different but yes. Walk away from someone or something that is waiting for me to get back and can never find my way back.
Those Are very spiritual dreams, and I have similar ones. The first dream about being lost is to leave the past behind you. It is lost forever. Remember that Soul is a happy entity and dwells in the now.
I have the house dream all the time. It is humongous, and certain areas are beautiful, and others need work. Again, this refers to our beingness. This refers to we all need work to reach our spiritual potential.
When I was younger, I had a recurring dream about Sheena Easton every few weeks.
I had Farrah Fawcett.
Woke up wet.
It was a warm typical summer day. The afternoon sun was piercing through a spotted cloudy sky. I was mowing my lawn, the kids were in the street riding bikes playing in the yards. Mr. Jones was yelling at the kids to get off his lawn, The smell of BBQ filled the air. Dad’s where whistling for the kids to come home for the Saturday dinner. The sound of birds could be heard in the distance, dogs barking as if to be speaking to one another. Lawn sprinklers turning on to water well manicured prized green yards. The teenagers where out washing their cherished hand me down cars for the night ahead. The paper boy was struggling to peddle his bike with the load of news papers for delivery up the street, throwing one at a time to each house as he passed by. Jim and Mike were in Jim’s Garage having a beer going over the latest upgrades to Jim’s hot rob. It was getting late so I go in the house for the evening before turning in for a nights sleep.
I awake to a strange silence. I go to the window and look out, The streets are empty, the sound of children at play are gone, the yards are gray and unmanaged, many houses on the block seem vacant and run down, the sky is filled with unnatural looking clouds as planes criss cross in the sky ejecting strange trails behind them. The sound of birds singing in the background are gone. An eerie quite fills the air except for the faint sound of gun fire coming from the near by neighborhood and police sirens blaring in the distance from all different directions.
I’m in this nightmare now and long to awaken from it to smell the aromas and hear the joys of typical summers day in the neighborhood.
That’s not a nightmare. That’s the current state of America, but I am fairly sure that you knew that when you posted your comment. Your unspoken question is this: here’s where we are, so what do we do to return to the America we remember? Maybe you could ask the Eskimo to post that as the QOTD.
You already did.
Do you ever wonder if we’re already in Hell, and we’ve been given the Bible to tell us why?
I have several recurring dreams – I sleep well and dream almost every night. Sometimes I wake up feeling like Bill Murray in Groundhog’s Day since I have had some of these dreams dozens of times. Here are the most frequent ones:
1. I am inappropriately dressed for the event I am at – usually no shirt on.
2. I am in college and have not been to class for weeks. I either don’t know my class schedule or don’t know what building the class in in.
3. I am in a tornado or one is close by.
4. I missed tryouts for the football team, but still show up for practice weeks later.
5. I’m making love to a beautiful woman, usually my wife, but not always.
About every other year I have a dream that somebody, somehow has discovered ‘problems’ in my university record, indicating that my Bachelor’s degree is invalid… and I have to go back to college and earn more credits.
Now that I’m in my 70s, I guess I can relax, and tell those dweebs to stuff their transcript…..
We have a blind friend who recently graduated from college. Whenever I would help him out with anything I would have your dream #2 for a couple of nights. Having been a bit of a slacker in college, it wasn’t that far from the truth on occasion. It was definitely a dream I had frequently in the decade or so after graduating.
The college theme, and having one more class to graduate, and or looking for my class is also a reoccurring theme for me. My football dream is I score a touchdown on every run or on defense I do not let them get an inch.
Yes! Absolutely true this account of my dream.
Forty years ago I dreamed that men dressed in black suits were chasing me and just as I reached a high ridge down the road from my house, they caught me and injected something in the palms of my hands. They told me it was typhus. These goons looked like the men in black in the movies but this dream was way before anyone talked about men in black.
Typhus is used in wartime, it has symptoms of a purplish rash headaches and fever, generally with a high mortality rate.
I have had that dream more than once. I hope I never have it again. I knew somehow that they were the government and they were injecting death on purpose for evil reasons, sound familiar?
I had dreams of Obama being a traitor in 2012, and of Australia being a communistic puppet government in 2014, and other dreams of the dystopia to come. I am still shocked that they are indeed true.
I have a recurring nightmare, every time I wake up and realize that I am still on this planet full of insane primates.
Do recurring nightmares count?
Not an exactly recurring dream, but I quite regularly remember my last dream before I wake up. It is often of me somewhere, frustratedly looking for a bathroom, some privacy to pee, etc. Not shockingly, having to go pee and the sunlight of the morning, is generally what awakens me. Most of my nightmares happen while awake and watching any coverage of what is going on in D.C.
Privacy to pee
Yes, that.
I hate those dreams. Had one a couple days ago. There were about 5 bathrooms with 19 toilets in disgusto condition. Refused to even squat. My body is usually trying to wake me so I don’t pee the chair or bed IRL. It’s so frustating and when I open my eyes, I always give a prayer of thanks.
I grew up (birth-13) in lower Sussex County, Delaware – About 6 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. I often have a dream that Rehoboth Beach, Fenwick Island, and/or Ocean City get swallowed up by a massive tsunami. Any time a news story begins to encroach on this idea, (That kook Clif High talking about a global tidal event, the volcano in the Canary Islands, etc) I think about that dream I have.
The possibility of Cumbre Vieja sliding into the ocean and causing a massive tsunami is a real one. The timing of course is unknown. Evidence of 1000 foot tsunamis hitting the Hawaiian Islands as a result of massive landslides is well-documented.
A 75 megaton submarine warhead could achieve the same effect detonated off the coast of New York Harbor.
Coastlines of NJ and NY would serve to funnel-focus the wave and runup could exceed 1000 feet.
And New Yorkers are all for PISSING OFF PUTIN!!!
Brilliance in action.
I used to dream frequently that I could fly, just will myself to take off. I didn’t go very high, just above the rooftops, and stayed in the neighborhood. Amazed my siblings and friends; they couldn’t do it. Haven’t had that dream in years though.
This is your higher self, Soul, exploring your inner worlds. The bible quote is” In my father’s house there are many mansions. Chant a sacred name of God like, HU, the root word for halleluyash., and you will soon be flying again. I like The HU chant. But God, Mana, Ohm, and Shanti are also wonderful words to use when exploring your inner worlds. This is one of Gods gifts. Chanting is one of the oldest and most sacred forms of prayer.
I started with flying dreams at about 2nd grade. Now they’re rare, but still occur. These days I’m alone at night over buildings that all seem to be empty.
Not flying, but floating like a balloon and getting stuck against the ceiling.
Is my recurring dream.
in my working days, I owned a seafood business
now retired, I sell fish often in my dreams
or try to – there are dream obstacles
Nuclear war scenarios from about age ten well into my 50’s. I usually survived…it was always the terror that was palpable. After all those years, I don’t know why that dream pretty much disappeared.
Not exactly a dream since I have chronic insomnia…
Every night I wake up and look at the clock 12:34. It doesn’t matter if we are home, vacation, or wherever. 12:34 also happens during the day if I’m driving, working at my PC, or sending a text. I see 12:34 on the clock at least once, but usually twice a day.
I admit at 1st it was freaking me out and my wife laughed about it. Then I started waking her up to show her the time or texting a picture from work at 12:34. Then she thought it was strange too. Not knowing what it meant I looked at numerology, which I think is total crap. The number 1234, per them, is angels telling you that you are on the right path.
It made me feel a bit better but I wish they didn’t feel the need to tell me every night. It’s been going on for 2+ years now.
I used to wake up at 3:11 most nights and then it stopped happening as quickly as it started. I have no idea why I used to wake at that exact time.
Hmmm…interesting.
Can’t happen soon enough.
AA- One can only pray.
It has very special meaning for you. It will stop when you figure it out. A waking dream is the same as a sleeping one. It is the divine, Soul, communicating to you. You have to keep this in mind. Soul is a multidimensional being that always has access to God. The dreams, waking or sleeping, are for our benefit.
The old slept through the exam persisted 20 years after college.
The exam is life. You lost your thirst for wisdom and truth. We have all been tested and found wanting at times. Be not discouraged. Most of us on BP are here looking for a greater wisdom and truth.
When i have a recurring dream it is predictive of the future, but i can only tell once that future arrives. I saw what turned out to be the morgue for almost a full year before my brother died. The dream always seemed to portend the end of the world. I guess it was in many ways.
Yes, dreams are 99% of the time about the dreamer. It was the end for your physical relationship with your brother. But you can communicate, via dreams, with family members. I visit my parents, who long ago passed away, and it is always a happy occasion.
I’m in a crowd of people I don’t know, like at a restaurant or house party, and can’t find Spousal Unit. Disturbing. I hate that one.
I’m in the basement of a huge building, maybe on a college campus, and there are pipes and conduits running everywhere. I make my way up to the next level, but it’s identical to the previous floor. This repeats for several iterations.
I also have dreams that are like watching a movie. There’s a plot, a story arc, climax, and denouement. Then I wake up.
Some nights I’ll have multiple instances of the same dream, but with slight variations each time.
From time to time, in my dream I become aware that I’m dreaming, which usually wakes me up. But occasionally I can hold onto that state of duality and because I’m aware there are no consequences, I get to do whatever the fuck I want.
Recurring, but alternating.
One night i dream i’m a TeePee, the next night i’m a WigWam.
TeePee, WigWam, night after night. It was maddening, so i sought professional help.
“Relax”, said my therapist, “You’re just two tents”.
Did you hear about the Indian who died from drinking too much tea before bedtime?
He drowned in his teepee.
That I’m tied to a chair being forced to watch reruns of the view with only My Pillow ads…….forever!
On a more serious note, Not a dream but a nightmare that recurred for about 35 yrs. The entire family would 1 by 1 fall down an infinity flight of stairs into just blackness. As one would fall another one would grab them and get puled in also. This would happen until I was left to hold all of them from falling into the black abyss. As I am struggling to hang on, I lose my grip, all panic sets in…….and……I wake up. Heart pounding, breathing hard, sweating. Even for a 40 yr old, it still can freak you out. However, About 28 yrs ago while visiting the folks in FL a conversation came up about when dad and grandpa were finishing our 1st house basement and had to remove the stairs. Dad forgot(that’s where I get it from) that the stairs were out and came in the house quickly to go down to the basement and …..boom! As he fell into the abyss he got his leg ripped open by some nails and had to go to the hospital for this one. As a 5-6 yr old kid I didn’t remember this. But from that time on after the family story I never had another nightmare since, over anything. I must have seen more than I remembered and everything about that nightmare fell into place in that one moment. Amazing how that hit works!
One periodic dream, after I graduated engineering school for real, my dream is I have to go back and take another course or final exam – the school made a mistake allowing me to graduate.
Its not a dream, really a nightmare. I’ve had this dream periodically for 40 years.
Had one recently, I usually wake up with my heart racing or just freaked out.
