SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Yuja Wang and Others_Excerpts from 3 different concerts

Just one more with some great performances.

Yuja Wang and others – Four pianos together at the end.

Meet Stepan Grytsay

Today we’ll hear from a very talented young man who began playing violin at age 3. I could not find a great deal of bio on him, but I’ll start with this brief sub 2 minute video of him telling you of his past.

Albinoni – Adagio in G minor [Violin & Organ]

Stepan now lives, plays and composes in Montreal, CDA.

I want to start with a favorite piece. Stepan plays Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor to perfection.

A Sunday treat.

Johann Pachelbel – Canon in D [Arrangement for 8 Violins by Stepan Grytsay]

Next up he plays a piece written by Baroque era, German composer, Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706), titled Canon in D.

Stepan arranged this piece for 8 violins, playing all 8 parts himself.

J. S. BACH – AIR on the G string for 4 violins

Next, Stepan plays J.S. Bach’s AIR on the G String.

He arranged this piece for four violins.

F. Chopin – Nocturne in C# minor

Next up he plays Chopin’s Nocturne in C Sharp Minor.

Frédéric François Chopin (born Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin; 1 March 1810 – 17 October 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic period who wrote primarily for solo piano.He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading musician of his era, one whose “poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation.”

This beautiful piece was written for piano, but Stepan plays it well on violin.

Stepan R. Grytsay – N. Paganini: Cantabile

Finally, Stepan plays “Cantabile for violin and piano by Paganini.

Niccolò Paganini was an Italian violinist and composer. He was the most celebrated violin virtuoso of his time, and left his mark as one of the pillars of modern violin technique. His 24 Caprices for Solo Violin Op. 1 are among the best known of his compositions and have served as an inspiration for many prominent composers.

Grieg: Peer Gynt – Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra and United Choirs

Gimnazija Kranj Great Christmas Concert 2010.

We performed: Morning mood and Mountain King.

Arrangement was made by conductor, maestro Nejc Bečan.

Chorus master: Primož Kerštanj;

mentor: prof. Barbara Kušar;

concert direction: Primož Zevnik.

The Concert was sold out in a couple of hours

Fauré: Pavane with Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra and Chorus

I can add nothing after this piece. Even with the inadvertent crashing of the cymbals at 2:12, these kids didn’t miss a beat.

It’s just 5 ½ minutes long, but it is lovely.

Gimnazija Kranj Great Christmas Concert 2014: Night in Paris.

In a sold out Gallus Hall (Cankarjev dom, Slovenia) Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performed masterpiece by Faure, called Pavane. Orchestra did an amazing job.

Conductor: Nejc Bečan;

Chorus Master: Marjeta Oblak;

Concert master: Nejc Avbelj;

head of production: Grega Jeraša;

floral: Tina Karba;

Holy smokes, guys.
A lot of content in today’s submittals.
Just wanted to say Thanks again to both Steve C. and Nkit, for all the research, effort, and consistency.
To U.D., as well, for his contributions and appreciation for things which too few seem to acknowledge.

Ah, but perhaps there are legions, who admire from afar, without commenting, which is OK, too.

I’ll check back later to hear the boom of than cannon in the D, by that guy whose name sounds like Taco Bell.

A timeless piece, recorded by many a artist.
For a good piano version, Danny Wright has a good one on his Black and White album.

I heard the tune played at a wedding march a couple of Fridays ago at a cathedral in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
I’d venture to say it’s a little more elegant than “Here Comes The Bride”
And yes, the bride was stunningly beautiful, walking up the aisle with her father, set to that beautiful classical piece.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, ALL.
God Bless You and Yours, and
May the Lord’s Peace be with you.
Cheers.

trivia post script:
-Grieg’s first name was Edvard.
-Freddy Chopin’s last name is pronounced: “Show pan”

Carry on.

“Heaven Help us.”
The almighty has answered here with your efforts for all the selections, and the VERY important knowledge experience and judgement of your comments for us unwashed masses. THANKS MUCH MUCH.
Just imagine the HUGE money and effort to build the massive concert halls that are so elegant, and most would not be reproducible at todays costs.
The huge talent and costs to produce ALL the instruments, and most importantly all the musicians millions and millions of hours perfecting the performances, and all the time the orchestras must necessarily spend rehearsing the music.
We just get to enjoy all this for the minute cost of some electricity.

A timeless classic worthy of sharing.

Another excellent selection of fine music, gentlemen. How can you go wrong when you include Yuja and Khatia. I especially enjoyed the piece with 4 pianos at the end of the clip. Tremendous talent by all 4 pianists. Then I listened to Stephan play Canon D which he arranged for 8 violins. What an amazing talent for such a young man. Having ZERO musical abilities, I am jealous of those who do.

Back to listening to more of your selections, but wanted to say a big THANK YOU for the time and effort you put into this much anticipated weekly post.

Thanks for another array of music. Stepan blew my mind. Paganini is always a treat and watching him with the 8 violins blew my mind.
