My Dad started sending me under houses pulling wires for him when I was about 6. He could continue with the other work while I pulled the wire and it was a lot easier for me to navigate those tight spaces.
$.50 a trip made me a pretty rich kid in the late 50’s, at least in my neighborhood it did.
When I was 8 or so, my Dad took me on jobs. I was a Rafter Monkey, a crawl space rat, and a Gopher. Pulled a lot of Romex, and learned to hammer staples. All kids should be so lucky

My 13 yo grandson has been doing that for a few years.
I started working in my family’s hardwood sawmill when I was 8 – for $5/day.
I cannot imagine what .gov would say about an 8 y-o even being at a sawmill, much less working there.
