Get Ready For The Next Leftwing Brainwashing Attempt – Normalizing The Eating Of Bugs

Guest Post by The Hungry Beaver

The jig is up for the media and its attempt to normalize bug eating. As Americans are beginning to connect the dots between stories that glorify the alternatives to protein and the World Economic Forum’s agenda for 2030.

Convincing the masses to eat crickets (amongst other insects) has gone from an edgy right-wing conspiracy theory to a progressive passion project in recent months. But for those who have been paying attention, this push has not happened overnight. Instead, various outlets have devoted their resources to enlightening Americans on the benefits of insects.

The New York Post, for example, recently shared a puff piece for worm “burgers,” arguing that their consumption could lead to a solution for world hunger.

The article cites South Korean scientists who have “cooked mealworms, or beetle larvae, along with sugar to create ‘meat.’” Then aimed to normalize this procedure by assuring readers that the protein alternative “tastes authentic.”

Dr. Hee Cho, who is the project leader from Wonkwang University, said the following about this new glorified progressive trend: “Recently, eating insects has become of interest because of the increasing cost of animal protein, as well as the associated environmental issues.”

“Insects are a nutritious and healthy food source with high amounts of fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, fiber and high-quality protein — which is like that of meat,” Cho added.

Critics have speculated that this normalization of bugs as food is a tactic for combating the rise in cost of goods and our emerging energy crisis. All under the guise of health and environmental reasons.

Moreover, the same critics argue that those pushing this “new normal” will start with something like Grasshoppers (since “Chapulines” are typical in parts of Asia, South America, and Mexico). Then they will move towards normalizing the far more “out there” alternatives like cockroach milk.

Celebrities like Robert Downey Jr., Nicole Kidman, and Kim Kardashian have joined in on the bug train too. Convincing their heavily liberal audiences of the benefits of these protein alternatives. While selling the idea that the change is not monumental.

Americans who do not want to eat insects have become increasingly skeptical of the whole initiative. Especially after learning that snack foods are now being made with insects (often without consumer knowledge) as a primary ingredient.

For example, a Canadian food brand called ActuallyFoods lists Organic Cricket Flour as one of its ingredients. And Canada also recently announced that it has completed its construction of the world’s largest cricket production facility.

Big companies like PBS America have hosted various events about the health benefits crickets provide. Along with how eating bugs instead of meat can help “our warming planet.”

As Edward Snowden infamously warned on Twitter: “You’re gonna eat the crickets.”

So, while mainstream outlets and celebrities continue to push for the normalization of insect eating, they simultaneously smear their critics as conspiracy theorists who are missing the point and overshadowing the benefits of the trendy alternatives.

This is all while the same people who tout the claim “you will own nothing and be happy” want us to consume insects for so-called environmental reasons.

Pay attention to how insects are injected into a normal American diet in the coming months, as more stories like the worm “burgers” and cricket flour come to light.

The mainstream media wants to make this transition feel gradual. But luckily more and more consumers are beginning to open their eyes to the ulterior motives at the core of this movement.

Mammals are not designed to eat Chitin, the indigestible hard shell of beetles, crickets, and crustaceans. Full-stop.

mammalians themselves do not synthetize chitin and thus it is considered as a potential target for recognition by mammalian immune system.

— from National Institutes of Health: Elieh Ali Komi D, Sharma L, Dela Cruz CS. Chitin and Its Effects on Inflammatory and Immune Responses. Clin Rev Allergy Immunol. 2018 Apr;54(2):213-223. doi: 10.1007/s12016-017-8600-0. PMID: 28251581; PMCID: PMC5680136.

Many mammals eat bugs. Digesting the chitin is no more necessary than digesting fingernails or hair.

Yes, many mammals eat bugs. Some even do so intentionally.

However, I don’t know of many bug-eating mammals that go out of their way to consume bugs with hard shells as their main diet, though. f

Raccoons eat shellfish but not the shells, Aardvarks eat soft-bodied insects. Bats consume soft-bodied mosquitoes. Cows and other cloven-hoofed animals have a wildly different digestive system from all the other mammals, so, their consumption of the odd grasshopper is not akin to a human being served powdered insect bodies or even chocolate covered whole crickets. Your statement, though true, is lacking any real argument for me to counter, unless we’re being served a diet of fingernails and hair.

Anyway, the above article in my comment is from a journal that specializes in Immunology and Allergies, it’s not just my opinion.

Broad strokes don’t make subtle arguments. This I know from my own personal biases and blind spots.

“Generally Regarded As Safe, i.e. G.R.A.S.” concepts are the results of lazy and/or captured science.

G.R.A.S. is a “lowest common denominator,” broad-stroke approach to health and diet.

As it happens, I have personal experience with gastrointestinal inflammation due to a G.R.A.S. product commonly known as “Food-Safe Grease.” A one-size-fits-all mindset is a terrible approach to health, in my very humble opinion.

Food Education is a key component for each individual to better tailor their diet, arming themselves with specific facts, especially during these very stressful times.

I’m not defending or promoting it. Merely pointing out that not digesting isn’t the same as not eating. I have yet to meat a coyote that doesn’t shit out a wad of hair constantly. Many a boomer deliberately eats completely insoluble plant fiber.

And yet some mammals can partly digest chitin. I’m glad to not be one of them. And just because I can digest small bones doesn’t mean I plan on eating mice.

Where is this being done without consumer knowledge? The example he gives says they literally list cricket flour. I’m sure they do sneak it in just like they used to with gmos but some evidence would be helpful.

Do a search for “Acheta Cricket Powder” and keep your barf bag on stand-by.

I particularly like this scientific observation, as found in an F.A.O. document:
Of note, the presence of spore-forming bacteria in cricket-based bread loaves, thus highlighting potential safety issues to be deepened.

But, they (U.N. – Food and Agricultural Organization) are really, really excited about all the extra protein and amino acids found in cricket flour!

I won’t intentionally consume insects. Chances are we all do and don’t know it unless the food police have managed an entire stop to it. Still, some rat crawling around in the sack of flour at Jack’s Grill or the cook at Jack’s picking up a piece of breakfast sausage off the floor where a rat or roach had walked the night before…on the griddle it goes.

Anyway, I prefer a grasshopper on a fish hook. I recall the blue catfish off a yellow grasshopper baited trotline. My two fishing friends and I got our names listed in the weekly fishing report Bob Hood use to write for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

A parasitological evaluation of edible insects and their role in the
transmission of parasitic diseases to humans and animals

cricket

September 20, 2022 8:10 am

Does anyone really believe that eating insects is for your health, food shortages and will save the planet from imaginary dilemmas?

Yes, cricket powder is now being put in many foods on purpose, but disguised, called by different names to hide that fact… like it is still done with msg? Usually “health foods’ now, but it will migrate.
One is identified as Acheta protein. It is in some breads, cookies, protein bars, ice-cream, protein powder pet foods.
A constant diet of bugs is not good, for humans- or pets. It is toxic to them too and their systems cannot digest them; they, as we do, do not have a digestive system like the birds and fish do. A cascade of illness and symptoms will eventually follow.
Breads and other foods made of powdered crickets may also be loaded with bacterial spores; an article in Farmer’s Weekly noted that bacteria contamination is associated with both wild and farmed insects, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Micrococcus, Lactobacillus,E rwinia, Clostridium and Acinetobacter, as well as members of the family Enterobacteriaceae.
Edible insects are also a source of food allergens…like shellfish. Someone with specific allergies by eating insects unaware could go into anaphalactic shock .

“Insects contain a natural structural component in their exoskeletons called chitin. This fibrous polysaccharide happens to be extremely toxic to humans. Specifically, chitin triggers inflammation and immune responses.
Chitin induces accumulation in tissue of innate immune cells associated with allergy showed that chitin triggers allergic airway inflammation and possibly asthma among other immune inflammation responses, immuno-compromisation, vitamin depletion .
