Both the woman opening the car door (mostly) and the guy on the bike (to some extent) exercised limited situational awareness – which is pretty common for most folks nowadays. A good reminder of how quick circumstances can go sideways. Literally.

There is no way to prepare for an opening car door. Jou can only except it.

You can either ride more toward the center line and out of reach of the car doors, or you can carefully watch for people in the driver’s seat.

In this case, given the narrow right lane, the guy on the bike should have been riding behind the tanker truck because patience is better than death and learn and live is less painful than live and learn.

Literally got run over by the bus. Praise Jeebus he is alive and well!

Edit: Put on my glasses and behold ,it’s a MB truck….. Praise Jeebus anyway!

Women drivers. Remarkably dangerous even when parked.

Guy is super lucky. That was a hair’s breadth from being a closed-casket funeral.

dumb ass on a bicycle.

Cement Bulker just missing your head. Surviving an accident like that without injury is very lucky. He will get to meet the Dharma Raya another day. Very interesting case. He had bad Karma and good Karma working back to back. Ignatius would say, Fortuna smiled upon me this day.

Step 1: Crawl out from under the truck
Step 2: Shake hands with the truck driver
Step 3: Beat the living shit out of the woman.

To be fair, he shouldn’t have been doing that move. She is a dumb bitch as well. The truck driver reacted well, and saved the day.

What move shouldn’t he have been doing? I can’t see how the bicyclist did anything wrong or was at fault.

AKJOHN

He was in a motorcycle. In the USA, that is an illegal move. But, Everyone with a brain knows to look before you open the door. We were taught that when we were kids in the USA.

in a motorcycle? In the gas tank? The saddle bags? Where was he hiding?

You’re right; you can’t see. That’s either a moped or small displacement motorcycle and I don’t live wherever this is, so I don’t know what those who do live there know about the rules of the road there. Just like around LA where I also don’t and wouldn’t live, they can lane split, but they need to know there are a lot of visitors and vacationers who aren’t switched on when they suddenly have a motorcycle whizzing by at 20 mph more than the speed of traffic. Situational awareness is highly important in everything. Either way. the truck driver did come to a quick stop, but I didn’t notice him getting out to look and also I don’t know if I’d just crawl out, hoping that the truck wasn’t going to start moving again.

I couldn’t believe it when I learned they are allowed to lane split in California. I don’t miss driving in California. They are almost as bad as Minnesotans on the road; worse if its illegals.

Drove 101 from Palo Alto to Morgan Hill many times at evening rush hour. Always thought some day a really pissed driver would pop his door open just as one of the lane splitters was zipping by.

It appears he’s either in the parking lane or the bike lane — sometimes the 2 are one and the same …

The clue for me was the other cyclist (also a motorcycle) that’s riding in the proper lane — i.e., right behind the bulk truck.

This cyclist seems to have wanted to maybe pass illegally on the right …

A miracle. For him. If you click the full screen (2 arrows; bottom right). replay, and pause it several times?

It LOOKS like she is worried sick. About ANY potential damage. To her door.

Somewhat cynical, admittedly.

Good thing the truck was just creeping along and could stop within 10 ‘, otherwise this might have ended differently.
