Nice placement of the Jergens
Last meme pic – YUP!!!
Mattel: “Boys were born to build and learn”.
That’s something they wouldn’t say now.
Ain’t going to lie. I love Filet O’ Fish. It would be nice if they could get the cheese halfway lined up right on the fish. I think they fuck it up out of vindictiveness, mumbling “tartar sauce-eating muthafuckin’ crackas” or more likely “guero cagaleche”.
Yeah, it is all I ate from them growing up as far as a sandwich goes. Not quite as picky these days.
Hot tip: You can order a Double Filet-O-Fish from the drive-thru, and about half the time, the cook staff will only put a single in the box. Then you drive around again, or walk into the store to present the evidence, and they will apologize and make a fresh double for you, then let you keep the extra single. Toss the extra bun, slather the tartar sauce between the filets, and you get a satisfying Triple F-O-F!
That’s called “getting over on The Man” !!
Long long ago, Pizza Hut advertised it was right or it’s free…
I used to order pizza with no cheese.
Worked a lotta times before they caught on.
I remember when we used to go to the strip club in 6th grade…oh, the memories.
Ah, the good ol’ days when Sister Margaret took us down to the ol’ Red Carpet massage parlor. Not.
Note to people under age 50: There was no such thing as a massage therapist. A “massage parlor” was a whore house.
What!?
You mean I could have gotten more for my $100?
It was a crappy massage…
The worst problems we had with the nuns K-8 were getting caught pitching pennies in the rest rooms, selling .22LR and 12 ga. shells and shooting pool at the local ‘academy of billiards’ … and throwing snowballs at the statue of St. Joseph on the back of the classroom building …
The red dashboard is likely a 56 or 57 Bel Air, we owned a 56, black/white two toned.
My ’56 Bel Air had the standard 2-speed PowerSlide … don’t recall that a 3-speed auto was available that year at all …
the power glide is still built for hot rod race cars. you can buy one at summit racing.
Always a fun feature here on Thursdays … thanks for the memories …
I still have my candlestick phone.
I have one too. Works just fine.
This was my toy of the 70s. I had a blast putting all the people on the very top, pushing the earthquake button and watching them all fall to their deaths. It was advertised that the tower would only sway, it would never fall. Bullshit. Press that button hard and fast enough and the tower would come crumbling down. So much fun!
I still own a record player and all Onkyo sound equipment. Record player inputs via amplified phono like it used to be. It kills me to see the trendy folks buy record players that output to Bluetooth! The receiver is the old school transformer type that weighs 70lbs. It is a pure analog receiver with 5.1 channels and Dolby digital processing capability. We upgraded our TV after 15 years (we don’t watch much TV) and come to find out they no longer have audio output on them. My trusty Onkyo receiver has no HDMI in/out so I had to improvise and get an audio splitter to extract the audio from the HDMI cable. I absolutely refused to upgrade to the newer surround systems.
I have a Yamaha 5.1 from 05. No HDMI, you probably did what I did. Run audio input (mine has analog and digital, on patch cord only) to receiver from TV, then plugged HDMI from TV to DVD player. Plus my Yami has analog outputs for a SACD player which I use often.
I had to get a small device that extracts the audio and then outputs via fiber to the receiver. It works quite well and the surround sounds great. Outside of the Dolby and Pro-Logic, everything is analog..wired speakers and all.
I looked at the new systems and was not impressed. Everything is a big sound bar nowadays. The sound bars are loud, but there is something about having tower speakers with 15″ woofers, mid-range horn, and 3 tweeters. I can shake the house for starters.
[spoiler title=” “]damn right!
SPDIF
I now use a several thousand core Linux machine to playback 4K HDR video and 7.1 audio. The USB digital audio stream goes to a Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 converter which then supplies the amplifiers with the 8 channels (of true differential input/output) signal. Half the amplifiers are my own design and construction and the other half are modified Behringer gear. All loudspeaker systems are point source time aligned and of my own design. Fully calibrated.
Of course, I’m in the business of professional audio and often are one of the judges for the Academy Awards in one or more sound categories.
It took many years of intensive study and decades of work to get where I am now but it all started with the kind of vintage audio devices pictured. First repairs, then modifications, then custom designs followed by management of a professional high end audio company, and now consulting for some of the “big boys” of the industry. It’s been fun. Still is!
I had Erector sets but my favorite was the pocket Erector set to take anywhere. Good times!
Now we just have viagra! 🙂
..
Definitely reminds me of my childhood. As a baseball fan (older seasons) the stadium is the old Polo Grounds in NY, not Fenway. Though with the colour scheme and partial photo, it is easy to get mixed up. Thanks for posting this article.
I guess Barry could see the near future when he used to quip “that’s not who we are”.
Remember what we allowed them to take from us the next time some prog death cultist or covidian opens their bug hatch about how “we” are all in this together – or “think of the children”, or some normiecon/civnat blank-slater parrots the conditioned “don’t let them divide us” to pervert the question of “who are we?” into some faux debate over proper paperwork or mythological poems on NY statues or muh GDP.
wait on line at the beanery? 15 minute lunch break-no way!
better a slice o’ pizza n’ a Coke. healthier, too!
I remember buying Green Lantern comic book for 0.12 which in my area included a free admission to Palisades Park.
Another quarter for the bus and I was gone for the day. Best summer was when my cousin got a job at the refreshment stand and I got free eats too!
When I was 7, got a chemistry set for Xmas. Big wood box, all kinds of chemicals, test tubes/beakers, and a small wick burner.
Does someone still make these?
It’s weird, but after all of the doom and gloom this has become my favorite regular on TBF. Always leaves a big smile.
Thanks, I needed that…
I needed this too, especially Parker Stevenson. *sigh*
