Dry run: Balloons called top ‘delivery platform’ for nuclear EMP attack

Guest Post by Paul Bedard

ADDITION APTOPIX United States China

High-altitude balloons, such as the one China has floated over mountain state military bases this week, are considered a key “delivery platform” for secret nuclear strikes on America’s electric grid, according to intelligence officials.

Spy balloons, used by Japan to drop bombs during World War II, are now far more sophisticated, can fly at up to 200,000 feet, evade detection, and can carry a small nuclear bomb that, if exploded in the atmosphere, would shut down the grid and wipe out electronics in a many-state-wide area.

The threat of balloon-launched electromagnetic pulse attacks was warned about by a congressional EMP commission and inside the military several years ago.

In a 2015 report for the American Leadership & Policy Foundation, Air Force Maj. David Stuckenberg, one of the nation’s leading EMP experts, wrote extensively about the threat balloons carrying bombs pose to national security.

“Using a balloon as a WMD/WME platform could provide adversaries with a pallet of altitudes and payload options with which to maximize offensive effects against the U.S.,” he wrote in the report.

“A high altitude balloon could be designed, created, and launched in a matter of months. There is nothing to prevent several hundred pounds of weapons material from being delivered to altitude,” he added.

On Friday, he told Secrets, “China’s recent balloon flyover of the United States is clearly a provocative and aggressive act. It was most likely a type of dry run meant to send a strategic message to the USA. We must not take this for granted.”

Now in the private sector, Stuckenberg, a national security expert and scientist who led the Defense Department’s EMP Task Force and chairman of the American Leadership & Policy Foundation, pointed to Japan’s World War II “Project Fugo” that targeted the U.S. with balloon bombs as an example of the threat. “Not since WWII has North America faced a threat of this nature. Project FuGo in Japan used balloons to float bombs on the trade-winds across the Pacific to the U.S. and Canada,” he told Secrets.

EMP experts have warned that China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran have programs to hit the U.S. grid with electromagnetic pulse weapons that would cut the cord for a year or longer. A congressional report has warned that a blackout that long could result in millions of deaths.

Stuckenberg cited the research of the late Peter Pry, who headed a congressional commission on EMP and reported on the potential of a balloon-launched attack.

He wrote in the report, “Peter Pry, a former CIA analyst and member of the Congressional Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from EMP Attack, stated, ‘Imagine the consequences of a balloon EMP attack that damages and destroys electronic systems at the speed of light within an EMP field with a radius of hundreds of kilometers. The Eastern Grid generates 75% of U.S. electricity and supports most of the population.” Pry also notes, “Virtually any nuke detonated anywhere over the Eastern Grid will collapse the entire Eastern Grid, not just the area within the EMP field, because of cascading failures that will ripple outward.”

Stuckenberg concluded in his paper, “In the case of EMP, the consequences of a failure to anticipate ALL delivery modes within the reach of an imaginative enemy could be immediate and widespread. As guardians of our nation’s future, planners must leave no stone unturned in the effort to deprive America’s enemies of low cost, lowtech, high-consequence military options.”

China has said that its balloon flying over Montana is safe and not a threat. The Pentagon has rebuffed calls to shoot it down because it could be a safety issue to those below it.

Does anyone think our governments have a plan put in place to react to this scale of problem? I heartily doubt it, even though they realize millions will die.

a bit greasy, but high in protein. Gotta’ clean ’em out first too, because they prolly’ just climbed out of a dead cow carcass.
Only thing is when times get hard, possums get scarce. A old friend (now deceased) and I were traveling to work one morning and I commented on the unusual number of possums dead on the road and he informed me that it was a sign that we were living in good times. He explained that when he was a boy growing up during Uncle Schlomo’s first attempt to starve Americans to death , commonly known as the Great Depression, that possums was so few that most times they would have to hunt three days to find one and they had dogs.

That said, the old sayin’ ’round here goes that difference betwixt what you will and won’t eat is ’bout three days. Bookmark this link. It may soon come useful.

Yup. Exactly what we were taught in my stint with .gov.
So the key is to skip the 3 days.
You’re 3 days ahead of your competitors.

Hello Mary Christine… still out here in Podunk raising rabbits and living off the fat of the land.

In case you ever are literally starving, I’ve been doing some indexing for the county library on all those books my father put together regarding local history and came across this gem.

I sent it to Wallee’s great-granddaughter, Wallee… who is the mother of that beautiful young man who died suddenly and unexpectedly about a month ago.

Hi Maggie, I came across some very interesting and infuriating info that our majority Rethuglican legislature and Governor is in cahoots with Monsanto and has set up a satellite WEF office in Cape Girardeau. It’s much more complicated than that. I thought about writing about it because if it’s happening here, it’s happening in other so called Red states, too.

I use to recount my grandad eating squirrel brains. His wife would bring the skulls out in a cake pan good and hot from the oven, and he would use the handle end of a case knife to crack the skull open and eat the brains. I’ve ate them a couple times like that, but didn’t want to get in the way of one of his favorite vittles he worked so hard to get a mess of.
Use to remind people about not letting them go to waste till somebody else reminded me of the risk of prions. Not sure it really is, but it is something to be aware of.

Boy, it sure is interesting how these writers seem to have balloon pr0n ready in the space of a few hours! It’s almost like they all have someone telling them which stories are to be promoted! That’s just crazy talk though.

I guess the chemtrail squirters up there who supposedly fly at the same altitude have some competition now, since they’re both trying to kill us. Peculiar that the masses have no problem with jets spraying god-knows-what above us, courtesy of our own government, but !CHINEEZ BALUNES! is just way out of line. Our jets could probably poke a nice hole through them — if they were actually here to help us, which they’re not — and Hindenberg that bastard.

We ought to be like Nicky Santoro and tell the Slants, “Nice balloon ya got up there, pal. Be a shame if sumthin should happen to it.”

Err, not even close. Highest any aeroplane has done is ~125,000 ft. Commercial stuff rarely over ~40,000.

x-15 got over 300,000 but that is not really an “aeroplane”. Just a manned missile.

While no one can ever guarantee a weather balloon will soar to a specific height, the balloons typically reach between 60,000 and 105,000 feet. However, the highest recorded weather balloon flight on record was launched in 2002 and soared to an incredible height of 173,000 feet.

But the !Chineez Balune! can damn near get into the Mesosphere, higher than the highest ever!

WE’RE ALL DOOMED!

There is a lot of unnecessary hysteria about emp’s. In 1962 a 1.2MT airburst nuclear explosion caused an emp that damaged electronics for about 900 miles in all directions. 1.2 MT is a large explosion.
A submarine launched nuclear missile has a yield of 300KT to 575KT per warhead.
Emp’s are also basically line of sight, meaning they are blocked to a large extent by anything physically obstructing them, and dissipate with distance. The idea that a single nuclear explosion over the US would disable all the electronic in the country is not correct.
I doubt a devise small enough to be carried by a balloon could cause much significant damage.

No worries …Deep Shekels got a grand strategy .It just don’t include you.

“The reason the USA is not capable of constructing a grand strategy is that it is not a nation. It is an empire which is ruled by a foreign elite, rather like the Roman Empire once the emperors ceased to be Roman.

In China’s Grand Strategy: Trends, Trajectories, and Long-Term Competition, the seven RAND scholars define the concept of grand strategy: Grant strategy is the process by which a state relates long-term ends to means within the rubric of an overarching and enduring vision to advance the national interest.

But when the state is controlled by an elite that has interests which are separate, distinct, and in some cases contradictory to the national interest, it is not possible to create any overarching and enduring vision, because the overarching and enduring objective of the elite is to remain in power.

This built-in contradiction between the national interest and the foreign elite’s interest will necessarily and inevitably lead to growing incoherencies that are even more readily apparent to enemies outside the state than nationals within it. Which, no doubt, is why Wang Hunin was able to observe the incoherencies and write America Against America 20 years before I made some of the same observations, which was nearly 20 years before it became obvious to most Americans that “defending democracy” looked a lot like “installing a puppet regime” in Ukraine.

What is the USA’s grand strategy? No one can say. Even the US strategists readily admit that they have no idea what it is. Defending the petrodollar is not a grand strategy. Preventing the rise of Russia and China is not a grand strategy. Maintaining the largest GDP or the highest GDP per capita is not a grand strategy. Eliminating the European population within a state is a grand strategy of sorts, but it is an evil, insane, and observably inimical to the national interest, ergo it is not a viable one for the United States.

And the incoherency produced by having a state with separate interests from the nation is why the USA is absolutely destined to defeat at the hands of nation-states with genuine grand strategies. There are other valid reasons, of course, beginning with industrial capacity, but on the most basic level, it should be easy to understand that it is much more difficult to successfully reach a destination when one doesn’t even have a particular one in mind.”

Man does that stink of a psy-op! I don’t get why they would go for “balloon” out of all the crazy, high-tech , super-hypersonic meltdown light-powered weaponry that exist, but come on! A fucking balloon!? Apparently they can shoot down supersonic (maybe not hyper) missiles and shit, but a balloon, cruising at a breakneck speed of half a mile an hour, can’t be shot down with a… what, kid’s sling shot? Am I just so fucking ignorant? Missing something? What’s so scary about that? Can’t they see anything that comes into the US airspace? If a fucking balloon can get in and fly all the way from Montana to the Carolinas in a lightning-fast 2 and half days, do you feel protected with that 750 Billion dollar military budget?

What a BS story. A balloon launched in China would have been spotted by multiple nation’s spy and weather satellites, seen by civilian and military radars from multiple countries, and its movements dictated by air currents (which are high velocity at high altitudes). No possible way for a balloon to hover over Billings Montana USA for hours. No way the USAF would have allowed one to get even close.

Whatever it is, it appeared out of nowhere and USAF pilots that went in to get a close look at it decided to NOT to try to shoot it down. Draw your own conclusions, but I’d call it a UFO. It certainly was Unidentified, Flying, and apparently an Object.
