Earthquakes are amusing until your in a really big one. When we had the 7.0 in Anchorage a few years ago, it sounded like there was a train in front of the house. That was the shock wave. The house shook massively for over a minute. We had a couple little things break. I met people who had every dish and glass in the house break. It was followed by thousands of aftershocks over the next couple months. Most you do not feel. But the bigger ones your saying. Oh shit not again. It is no joke when your in a big quake. Then people, mostly kids were having nightmares. It’s something you will never forget. Mother nature is not kind or gentle in Alaska. I have also experienced typhoons, floods, volcanic ash, massive wind and snow storms. If nothing happens for a couple years, you know something big is coming. One of the fun things you can do is track them at Alaska geophysical. I learned anything below 3.0 is unfelt. At 3.0 and higher the stairs shake. 4.0 is about a 20 second shake. 5.0 about a 30 second shake. That’s if they are in the area. The 7.0 was only 7 miles epicenter from downtown Anchorage, about 15 miles from my house. It also matter how deep. The 7.0 was a shallow quake which makes for more shake.
From my time in AK, it was also lousy with dudes from northern MN who thought that wasn’t cold & remote enough. At least you can always eat one of your sled dogs if you have to.

Eons ago i made the near fatal mistake of bringing a Blow Dryer to ‘Turkey Prep’ Day. She is not only proficient @ throwing knives, but VERY proficient in their more ‘Traditional’ usage.
‘Whack Job’ was bandied about. She is meticulous about drying the bird, and while in hindsight i may be slightly prescient, i could see no reason to ‘waste’ paper towels. AND, that was in the days before some great Brain trust kinda individual ‘invented’ tighter spacing on the rolls!
As a ‘Happy Medium’? (play-on-words, if Yore kinda slow. Too)
She Finally convinced me to allow it to ‘air Dry’ on some other fancy gadget whereupon it also reached ambient °. ‘KEY’ to sooo many cooking methods!
Truth be told? Kinda scary when rising up from a kneeling position and seeing the bird with it’s wings outstretched, ‘standing’ on its hind legs, in the sink. (done LOTS of Ass-Kissing in my day.) AND, it really helps the powder from the Mortar/Pestle amalgamation of herbs/spices adhere to the thin coating of Olive Oil. (She insists on using a pomace variant for that process, more ‘Taste’)
She ALSO mentioned something about an Ultrasonic ‘Thickness’ Tester for said oil…’Millage, mileage, just WTH is Wrong w/ya’ i told her. In NO uncertain terms. Inevitably? More Ass-Kissing to make things all better.

That depends upon whose Authority you’ve used to do it…but one of three things will happen.

The death rate will be quite high. Turkey is old with lots of stone buildings that are not retrofitted.
I heard that NATO was upset with Turkey for not allowing Finland into NATO and that they were harrassing Turkey because of it. Could it be possible that this earthquake was no coincidence?
I think Turkey was OK with Finland, but not Sweden- because Sweden won’t deport the Kurds they have that Turkey wants.
Wake me up when Damascus has become a “ruinous heap” and the Euphrates has dried up. I’ve already lived through earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, hostile fire and women scorned.
Do the Clintons have an earthquake relief fund set up yet so they can send 1% of the funds to help the commoners? If not, they’re really off their game.
Turkey is the dividing line between two continents, both of which are always on the move. Huge earthquakes are expected as are ones in Chile and California and so many other places. The government, NATO, and all the other scumbags are always up to something, so one can always point to natural disasters and question their timing.
More importantly, we need to face the reality that no matter what we do, the mechanisms of the planet – earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanoes, fires, etc. are going to happen and we are going to suffer losses and incur serious costs. As a result, we need to stop allowing our governments from pissing away our wealth on manmade death and destruction as there will be plenty of natural costs we need to prepare for. That is not to say that I do not believe that the government has the abilities to alter weather, stimulate earthquakes, move or alter hurricane paths, etc. Just saying that these things always come.
