Just as an aside, I thought I saw Stephen King’s face in one of the film’s shooting of a large group of people. King has been known to make small cameos in some of the films adapted from his books.

He was certainly in the original, as a minor character on the good side. More or less just some guy doing guard duty if I recall. Have as yet to watch the newer version which I have heard is a hot mess compared to the old, which is one of the family favorites here.
The book was an interesting read, many, many years ago.

I remember back when cable first came out and going over and seeing it at my cousins’ house, who were the only ones I knew that had it. They mainly had MTV on and not only was it hypnotizing, but thought this was the beginning of the satanist push for acceptance / domination, it was so decadent even then. This kind of display since is just now normal for most people, if the don’t actively embrace it.
Back in the late 60’s we had cable, but it only got the 3 commercial networks and PBS. We were too far in the sticks for a rooftop antennae to pick up more than one station. Mom had to have her daily fix of As the World Turns, so cable was installed.
