In the late ’70s early ’80s my Dad would always own a full size Chevy Van. He built a deck in the back, lined it with foam and furry fabric, and off we’d go. Our long distance trips were from the Detroit area to the Upper Peninsula, or to Disney World in Orlando. Not a seatbelt in sight. Playplace on the top, fort below with the luggage. Somehow we survived and have fond memories.
NJ to Buffalo and back in a 65 Dodge Monaco Wagon, 3 kids riding in the back, all the way. Nary a seatbelt in sight, and no cops cared.

In the 59 rambler wagon all four seats would lay down. I had two girlfriends that ran away from home stayed in my driveway for two weeks.

’59 Chevy Impala had a huge back window seat. We had 5 kids, so lots of customers.
