ANOTHER CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY: The Miserable Case of Julian Assange

How could the English courts possibly serve Assange up to the country that plotted to assassinate him?  Yet, as Declassified has consistently reported, this is no ordinary case.  This month, Mark Curtis showed how Dame Victoria Sharp, one of the two judges overseeing the Assange hearing, has close familial links to the British Establishment.  Her father was a peer in the House of Lords, and her brother is Richard Sharp, the disgraced former chair of the BBC.

Mark also revealed that the other judge, Jeremy Johnson, had acted for MI6 and the Ministry of Defence whose activities WikiLeaks exposed. How is this not a glaring conflict of interest?  If Assange is extradited, what he faces next is terrifying. Phil also interviewed Matt about Israeli warplanes landing in Britain, Antony about his journey to anti-Zionism, and Israel lobby cash within the Labour Party.  Matt and Phil reported from the Royal Courts of Justice for the Assange hearing, publishing interviews with, and speeches from, the likes of Jeremy Corbyn, Peter Oborne, and Stella Assange.

The reason Assange has been in various forms of custody for almost twelve years is not because he committed any real crimes but because he has embarrassed the political establishment.  That same political establishment is feigning outrage over the alleged murder of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, as well as the ongoing imprisonment of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich in Moscow, all the while it plots to throw a Western journalist into solitary confinement for daring to break truly incriminating stories.

There are so many absurd aspects of what the US government has done, is doing, and aims to do to Julian Assange. Chief among them is the fact that everything federal prosecutors want to charge him with under the Espionage Act is composed of entirely legal, and common, components of journalism.

The fact that journalists often seek out, obtain, and publish classified material is the reason the US government has been reluctant to prosecute the WikiLeaks founder. If Assange’s journalism is a crime, so is much of the journalism at the New York Times, the Associated Press, and every other major outlet in the world.

Bizarrely, the lead US prosecutor in the case has tried to dodge that inconvenient fact by suggesting Assange is not entitled to First Amendment rights because he is Australian. But remember, they are charging him with violations of the Espionage Act, a US law. So, in other words, US prosecutors believe that a foreign journalist, operating outside of the United States, must abide by US law, but at the same time, the US government is not constrained by its own laws because that journalist is a foreigner operating outside of the United States.

It is for those of us who care about the truth and who oppose, not only the misdeeds of the foreign regimes that our governments want to overthrow but more urgently, the authoritarianism already at work in our own countries to demand that those in charge of Britain and US governments abide by the principles they have so far only pretended to embody.

GEOPOLITICS – Britain is arming Israel despite International condemnation

In these two sentences, Cameron carefully sidestepped the matter of whether Britain’s position was in line with international law and indicated that Britain’s extant arms export licences to Israel would be delivered.  This is alarming given the Foreign Office was recently forced to admit in a court case that it has 28 licences for arms sales to Israel that it classifies as “high risk”.

The “high risk” category applies to arms that HMG has determined are “most likely” to be used by Israel in offensive military operations in Gaza, such as components for combat air aircraft, utility helicopters, armoured personnel carriers, and targeting equipment.

In real terms, this means that Britain is supplying components for Israel’s F-35 and F-16 fighter jets as well as its Apache helicopters, which have been used over the past six months to decimate Gaza.  Cameron’s decision to keep supplying Israel with arms comes after the killing of over 33,000 Palestinians and, more recently, three British aid workers in Gaza.

HMG consistently claims that it has the “most robust” arms export controls in the world.  If there is any foundation to this claim, the world is in dire straits indeed.  In addition, this week, former Conservative minister Alan Duncan launched a tirade against Israel’s “morally unacceptable” behaviour, and its “extreme” backers in the UK government.

Israel “has been backing and supporting illegal settlers in the West Bank who steal Palestinian land and it is that land theft, that annexation of Palestine, which is the origin of the problem, which has given rise to the Hamas atrocity and the battles we’re seeing”, he declared.

Duncan also specifically accused pro-Israel lobbyists Eric Pickles and Stuart Polak, the honorary chair of CFI, of “exercising the interests of another country”. CFI “has been doing the bidding of Netanyahu, bypassing all proper processes of government, to exercise undue influence at the top of government”, he added. It is rare to hear a former senior British official speak so candidly about Israeli state crimes and the operations of the pro-Israel lobby in Britain. DESPATCHES FROM THE FRONTLINE – EUROPE ON THE BACK FOOT

These involve 90,000 soldiers from 31 countries of the Alliance and ‘almost block’ Sweden, about 50 warships, 80 aircraft, and 1,100 ground combat vehicles, including 133 tanks.  Some stages are expected to take place in the most blatantly Russophobic and most disgusting countries to us, such as Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, that is, near Russia’s borders.

The NATO blabbers were afraid to directly say who these exercises were aimed against, and limited themselves to empty chatter about ‘practicing defense plans and deterring potential aggression from the nearest opponents’.  But it is quite obvious that this convulsion of flabby Western muscles is a warning to our country.  It’s like they’re saying, shouldn’t we properly threaten Russia and show the Russian hedgehog a fat transgender European ass.

It turned out not scary, but very significant.  After all, if the Alliance itself decided to conduct exercises at this level, it means they are really afraid of something.  And even more so, they do not believe, not only in victory but in any military successes of the rotten neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv.  Plus, of course, they are working out the anti-Russian agenda for domestic political purposes, consolidating their dissatisfied electorate.

Overall this is very dangerously playing with fire.  Significant forces have been assembled. Exercises of this scale have not been conducted since the last century. So they are a well-forgotten old thing. We are not going to attack any country in this bloc. All reasonable people in the West understand this. But if they play too hard and encroach on the integrity of our country, they will instantly receive an adequate response.

This will mean only one thing – a big war, from which NATO will no longer turn away.  The same thing will happen if any NATO country begins to provide its airfields to Bandera’s supporters or quarters its troops with neo-Nazis. They will certainly become a legitimate target for our Armed Forces and will be mercilessly destroyed as enemies. All those wearing helmets with NATO symbols, who today swaggeringly rattle their weapons not far from our borders, should remember this”. (Unquote) Source

MACROECONOMICS IN THE 21^ST CENTURY – US DEBT BOMB

The debt that crippled Rome two thousand years ago, and that crippled every major power since that time, is now crippling the USA. Today, all Americans are aware of the problem, and almost all are hoping that, somehow, the problem will go away.  It will not. In every country, in every era, it is not in the interests of the “pigs” to fix the problem. It is in their interest to allow the situation to play itself out until it ultimately crashes. Tyler was extraordinarily astute. He understood that all great powers have a shelf life. They also have a process by which they are created, then thrive, then become corrupted, then decline, then fall into ruin. This process is as perennial as the grass.

The pundits will continue to rail with righteous indignation on television. The two political sports teams will continue to kick and gouge each other, but the outcome of the game is already cast in stone.

So, is this the end of the world as we know it? Yes and no. It is not the end of the world, just the end of the world as we know it. Whenever the leading power in the world falls, others are already in the wings, rise. And so it is today. Americans who are alive today have never known a situation in which their country was not the top dog in the world, and so it is hard to imagine a different world.

For those who are not American and who do not reside in the USA, it is easier to see a truer picture. With the collapse of the US (and Europe), there is still a very big world out there, waiting in the wings. Some second and third-world countries are, admittedly, doing badly. However, others are getting by nicely, like South Africa. And still others are thriving.

Yes, there is a bright future ahead, but, sadly, not in America; at least not for many years. Those who were described in the first paragraph of this article as being more observant are already looking away from America into the future. For the first time since the eighteenth century, those who are perusing the future are walking away from America, not toward it.

Editor’s Note: Economically, politically, and socially, the United States seems to be headed down a path that’s not only inconsistent with the founding principles of the country but accelerating quickly toward boundless decay. Nations go through typical phases before they collapse.  Where is our country (USA) in this cycle?  What signs should you be looking for to better prepare?

But not all those people joined the ranks of the unemployed (another 150,000 people were classed as “economically inactive” in Q1) taking the number neither in work nor looking for a job to 9.5 million – an amazing 32% of the workforce!  What’s going on?  Following the lockdown era, people have found other ways to raise tax-free income with side-lines and black-market trading underpinned with generous welfare and ‘sickness’ benefits.

These are obvious ways that consumers can cope with continuing inflation.  Two years ago, a two-litre bottle of supermarket olive oil cost about £7.  Step into your local branch today and that same bottle will cost more than £16. Grab a packet of pasta or some broccoli, and you will pay 95% and 50% more, respectively, than in 2022.  If your insurance renewal is due, especially for cars, that will be an extra 35%-50%.

HOWEVER – Here’s the BIG Picture: Stock markets have been running on Fed ‘Happy Talk’.  The FTSE just passed 8k!  This situation may end abruptly on June 12 if the Fed doesn’t cut rates and signals that rate cuts are not to be expected this year and perhaps not before early next year.  By then, we may be facing one of the worst economic outcomes possible: recession + inflation = stagflation.

BoE has already indicated that rates will stay as-is this year.  Anyone under the age of 60 probably has no acquaintance with stagflation. The world last experienced this in 1977-81. I remember that period well and made out like a bandit. It was great for leveraged holders of hard assets such as gold and homeowners but not today as mortgage rates rise yet again.

It was a nightmare for holders of stocks. (The long-term bull market in stocks did not start until August 1982.)  Investors might keep that winning hard asset portfolio allocation in mind as events unfold between now and June. Source
