Very interesting to us students of history. I’m sure there were other candidates for many of the centuries listed, but I’ll not be the one to nitpick. Great point made. All empires crumble after their brief time in the sun.

Brief? Looks like Egypt and the Romans comprised multiple centuries of dominance. Impressive.

Remember, technology advancements and information availability (ie disrupters) accelerate change.
The book Future Shock or Power Shift talked about societies moving from nomadic (10,00 yrs) , to agrarian (1000 yrs, to industrial (100 yrs, to information age (10’s yrs) to implied constant change.

Huh? I don’t think that Ancient Egypt ruled as far out as 30,000 years before Christ, even by current teachings (and I don’t believe in current teachings). Last I remember was that the empire of Ancient Egypt started around 5000 BC.

2700 BC, so about 5000 BP.

nation (n.)c. 1300, nacioun, “a race of people, large group of people with common ancestry and language,” from Old French nacion “birth, rank; descendants, relatives; country, homeland” (12c.) and directly from Latin nationem (nominative natio) “birth, origin; breed, stock, kind, species; race of people, tribe,” literally “that which has been born,” from natus, past participle of nasci “be born” (Old Latin gnasci), from PIE root *gene- “give birth, beget,” with derivatives referring to procreation and familial and tribal groups.

flash, Thanks for the gentle reminder: Nations are very different from empires.

If I am not mistaken, the US defeated the British in both the 18th and 19th centuries, so I would not say the British Empire ruled the 18th century.

In the 18th century the victory was as much French as American.
In the 19th century it was a negotiated draw.

And the British got Canada, South Africa, India, Burma, Australia and significant strategic holdings in China. I’d say they came out well ahead.

Gobekli Tepe: The list doesn’t go back anywhere near that far.

Turkey: An invention of the Treaty of Versailles, from the remains of the Ottoman Empire.

Atlantis: An invention of Plato, as an example of fake political history.

There is no China on the list, and Israel was never a power, never mind the strongest. At their peak they managed a kind of independence, but never could defeat the Philistines, who were themselves a minor power.

Bad news for most of the world… the 21st Century (and onward forever) will be ruled by the King of Glory. Choose the winning side now.
