Admin, the Global Warming Fucktards are not moved by your arguments.

“Since the mid 1970s, global temperatures have been warming at around 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade. However, weather imposes its own dramatic ups and downs over the long term trend. WE EXPECT TO SEE RECORD COLD TEMPERATURES EVEN DURING GLOBAL WARMING.”

You see, the GW folks can NEVER lose!! If it’s HOT = proof of global warming. If it’s COLD = proof of global warming. Hahahaha … a pretty fucking Convenient Truth, eh?

I_S, I didn’t give you a thumbs down, but here’s a site that offers data on the size of the arctic ice sheet, how it compares to 1981-2010 averages, how much it’s grown, etc. You may be able to find more data there.

Look at the two images closely and two things immediately become clear. The temporary sea ice or pack ice has indeed expanded as it is does to varying degrees every year. Ever hear of the Northern Passage? This is clear on the western and northern shores in the right hand image. The ice sheet has not grown on the southern or eastern areas except where active glaciers are moving.

In my experience, the term “ice sheet” is not typically used to describe seasonal sea ice but is usually reserved to talk about permanent ice sheets which the greenies are always lamenting the loss of.

Thinker, that link is to info about sea ice which has nothing to do with what GW retards typically refer to as ice sheets. If your local pond, lake or river freezes in winter you don’t call it an ice sheet do you? Sea ice is very seasonal and has been for 10,000 plus years.

There was a time in the far past that I lived in New England. I remember the winter storms and driving on snowy icy roads. Today when I look at the news reports showing stranded cars on the icy wintery roads I wonder why so many are stranded in conditions I had no problem navigating.

Then a thought came to me.

When I lived in New England I had two sets of tires for my car. Summer tires and snow tires. This was the time before all season tires were available.

Snow tires by the way, are far superior than all season tires in ice and snow. Now I wonder how many people no longer use snow tires in the winter? If I lived today in an area that had snow and ice conditions in the winter I would own a set of snow tires and use them in the winter. It is only common sense.

Does anyone have any idea if people still use snow tires or are they brainwashed to think that all season tires will serve their needs in the snow and ice?

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The combination of wind chills reaching 30 degrees below zero as well as snow accumulation of up to nearly 20 inches is creating a potentially life-threatening forecast for parts of West Michigan early next week.

My wife, daughter and grandson head to Florida tomorrow. I get to stay home and watch the cats.

Thunderbird, there are plenty of folks in the northeast who change their tires over every year. Including me. However, I also change my own oil.

A set of tires, all-season or snows, is an $800 investment for my vehicle (a Ranger 4×4). At that expense, it’s not hard to imagine most people defaulting to a single set of all-seasons, rationalizing that there will only be five or six days in any given winter that there will be snow on the roads.

Most people today have about as much knowledge of automotive maintenance and equipment as they do basic principles of physics. It’s not really surprising when vehicles end up in a ditch, whether there’s snow or dry pavement.

It’s funny you mention that. So many people around here, including a co-workers wife, get in accidents every winter because they use cruise control on snow and ice. They’re always surprised that they ended up in a ditch but never see the connection between cruise control and their predicaments.

Send some of that our way, the drought is getting critical. Thinking ahead, anyone have an idea where we can put 38 million Californians if/when that state turns into a desert?

“by LEE JUILLERAT, Herald and News 12/31/13

A year for the record books.

The year-long drought that’s plagued the Klamath Basin ends today, fittingly, with the driest December ever, based on National Weather Service records.

December precipitation stood at 0.11 inches for Klamath Falls as of Monday night while the year total was a meager 5.36 inches, well below the yearly average of 14.88 and lower than the 9.78 inches measured in 2012.

“The snowpack is dismal,” said Brett Lutz, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Medford office. The on-ground total at Crater Lake National Park’s headquarters complex is 6 inches, less than 10 percent of the 63 inches normal for the end of the calendar year.

What to do about 28 million Commiefornians? The worst of the worst?

China springs to mind.

So does Africa.

The surface of the sun. Bottom of the ocean. Antarctica. The Phantom Zone. Mars. Or, we could grind them up and use them as fertilizer elsewhere. Could use them as fish food. Render them all down into bio-diesel. Send the 11 million illegals back where they came from, leaving 28 million Californians… THEN we can gas them. Neutron bomb(s).

Or, my favorite idea – In a massive show of solidarity about how the rest of America believes Commiefornians are a bunch of fucking retards, degenerates, communists and/or illegals, everyone surrounding California will go to their local Home Depot or Lowes and buy one section of chain link fence. One a predetermined day, everyone will meet on the Californian border and collectively fence off that fucktard state from everyone else…

This can also apply to Detroit, Compton, New Jersey, New Yawk Shitty, Apelanta, etc, etc…

Well, I teed off Thursday morning in a short-sleeved golf shirt. So no need for snow tires or snow shovels here in Tucson.

On the flip side, the summer heat here reduces the average life of windshield wiper blades to about 3 years max before the rubber turns rock hard. Same with the average battery, which lasts about 4 years (or so I’m told) compared to 6-7 years in cooler climates.

Hey Admin

Those Philly Beagles kick off at 8:30 PM this evening, and I’ll bet game-time temp might be in the teens and continue to drop. You’d better hope the cold doesn’t get to Beagles QB (and former U of Arizona) Nick Foles. He transferred to Arizona from Michigan State because he didn’t like the cold weather and has publically said so.

On the other hand, the Beagles play the Saints, which ain’t exactly a cold-weather team. If the Beagles establish a good ground game, they’ll win.

Up here we usually do not mind the cold, but I went to one of our job sites this morning and it was dead. Typically there would be a dozen or more contractors, only one. Fortunately we all drive 4X4’s at our house and snow is not a problem if you learn to drive carefully. I did see several vehicles that had slid off the road this morning apparently driving like it was a normal day. My daughter has a meet tonight and will take the truck. She knows how to put it into 4 wheel drive, fortunately not like the old days where you had to get out and lock the hubs and go backwards then forwards.

SSS: You are making the snowbirds that did not go to Arizona this year curse at you.

This year people are going to suffer because the States that made laws to not allow studs on snow tires are going to cause a lot of accidents. Sue them. The State is not a person with common sense. The roads are so ffuc*ed up in those States that studded snow ties are not going to make any difference.

People have to look out for themselves. If law enforcement are so stupid that they just follow assinine laws that cause people harm then it is every man fr himself. We have become a nation of retards following the imbeciles leading us.

This is going to be a brutally cold winter with lot’s of ice to contend with, It would be smart to put studded snow tires on your car. If law enforcement can’t see this and support the people all I can say is the old saying, “it is better to be tried by twelve than to be carried by six. Laws are made to be broken what the conditions exist; and this winter the conditions are starring us in the face. People need to get to work. This year studded snow tires will get you to work. If law enforcement can’t see this then accept the ticket and ask for dismissal in court. This is an unusual year and the law in this year is an obstruction rather than a remedy. The court has to realize that.

There’s a reason we denialists should win the policy/politics debate on global warming. First, while I’m not certain that human activity & CO2 isn’t causing warming, I’m skeptical that it is – mostly because I see the leftists’ agenda. In any case, though, the reason we anti-hysteria folks should prevail politically is that a lot of people don’t and shouldn’t care even if the earth is warming. You just can’t scare most people with talk of a warmer earth. It seems like a net positive. The two biggest countries on earth are mostly barren and cold. The next two (China & US) have vast swaths of barren & cold. All the people of the Maldives could move to Winnipeg.

Shit, there is no known as to what the earths natural temperature is. This has nothing to do with politics.

As a kid we played in the creeks, texas, and many did I find a nautilous shell.

The water line has receded since these were formed in what we now call limestone.

The earth warms and it does cool. Mankind or not. Plates shift, plates sink.

I can’t wait to see how they handle on Monday when the forecasted high is -12 deg F.

All Season tires will be as hard as the wheels on a train car in that cold…even those on SUVs and other 4×4’s whose owners forget that all of us have 4-wheel brakes.

50% of the cars I saw in the ditch today were AWD, I kid you not.

SSS, I had to thumbs up the puppy. Our new pup is more fun everyday. I’m sure that will wear off soon enough but I’m fascinated with how intelligent she seems to be. At 8 weeks most dogs are not exactly in learning mode but we take her out for bathroom breaks every time she eats, drinks, plays or wakes up plus anytime it looks prudent. When we do this we give her the same commands we give our adult dog. Now when she looks needy or meets one of the criteria above we simply give her the command “outside” and she heads for the door on her own. We were carrying her to start. Once on the grass we tell her, “get busy” and she does her thing. She still has a few accidents mostly due to our inattention but seems to be eagerly catching on. She has a pretty short attention span but she is already starting to retrieve a ball about 7-8 times before something else catches her attention.

Watching the instinct driven interactions of pup and adult is every bit as interesting as a documentary. The puppy is perfectly submissive but bold enough to immediately initiate play as soon as the adult “breaks” dominance. The pup is even a touch sneaky and ornery. The adult is very slowly warming up to the pup but is just a bit too rough. We expect that will moderate as the pup gains size and strength. The pup only weighs 3lbs 12 oz. Her big sister is 31 pounds and has never seen a puppy before.

When the pup gets too rambunctious we take her out to chase the adult while she runs down tennis balls. The pup is soon dead to the world. She also sleeps 6-7 hours through the night in a tall cardboard box each night.

Our first lamb of the season was born three nights ago in the middle of the storm. The thermometer read -20 and the wind was gusting between 30-40 mph and the snow looked like it was falling horizontally, but the ewe did her thing and the ram lamb was bopping around the barn yard in the sunshine yesterday with the rest of the flock.

Our vehicles have two sets of wheels and the tires are permanently mounted- snow tires for Winter, all-season for warm weather. The hard job is putting the snow chains on the tractor, one of the most frustrating jobs of the year, but something you can’t do without. We’ve had enough snow this season already that the roads around the farm are more like trenches with parapet walls.

The only days we don’t work outside are when it’s seriously snowing, even then there are things to do in the barns. The only real problem is with the engines- I changed oil on the tractor the other day and it took an hour to drain the pan because of the viscosity. Block warmers are a help, but when even the anti-freeze turns to slush there’s days you just do without the equipment.

On the wall in the sugarhouse we have records back to 1903-first day of tapping, last spout pulled, gallons produced per day, etc. Of course there’s no temps recorded so it’s mostly information about the sap run, but since that is entirely dependent upon temperature and snow pack, it goves us more than a century of data to work with and over the course of that time the average start date and end dates haven’t changed- with a few noticable exceptions like 1932/1955. There’s always a lot of talk about how our state will no longer have maple production in the not too distant future due to global warming but it’s never written by anyone who actually sugars, it’s usually a desk jockey at some cozy little climate controlled NRCS office. i wish they’d strap on a pair of snow shoes and hump around the orchard with me when we’re tapping so they could fill me in on the specifics, but they seem kinda scarce at that time of year.
