HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED OVER THE YEARS?

I’m waiting for IU vs Georgetown basketball game, being played at Madison Square Garden at noon.

The game is on ESPN2.  I turned it on at 11:30 … thinking maybe they’ll have some pre-game analysis.  Nope.  They are showing a Harlem Globe Trotters vs  Washington Generals “game”.  The announcer saying a million times that the Generals haven’t beaten the Globe Trotters in 43 years.  Blech.   I attended a Globe Trotters game when I was about thirteen years old.  I loved it. But, today, as I watched the last half hour, I thought to myself “this is just fuckin stupid as shit!“.   I know that schtick is for the chil’run, but still, it’s beyond retarded.

So, just for fun — since so few are commenting this post-Christmas season — how about you?  What things did you once like, that you now can’t stand … or, vice-versa?

A second optional question;  has an internet debate ever changed your mind?  I ask this because of the many religious discussions here … neither side ever giving even an inch.

To get things started;

1)  I used to be a “sports junkie”.  I tracked “stats” for major sports, and even minor sports such as soccer, as if my life depended on it. Today I don’t give a rats ass about any professional sports … except World Cup soccer every four years.  And the only college sport I watch are the IU Hoosiers basketball team … and even that is probably a fucking waste of time.

2)  I used to be a born-again Fundy Christian.

3)  I used to HATE green beans with a passion.  Mom never seemed to catch on why I always had a “cold”, cough cough, when she served up that vile bean. Take a bite … cough it up into a napkin … stick it in my sock … rinse and repeat.

4) Regarding internet arguments, I’ve changed my mind on numerous topics;

—-  I now know Abe Lincoln was a damned scoundrel. Eisenhower might be also.

—-  I was a staunch Republican neocon when I first arrived here.

—- I though Fuxs Newz told the truth.

—- SSS almost has me convinced that marijuana is almost as fuckin’ evil as green beans.

I’m outta here.  Go IU!!

Very late to the party, but I’ve learned to increasingly worry about what I can control and that bank accounts are not scorecards…..which is helpful since I’m now certain I’ll be working longer. So, I’ve got a powerful sense of importance to aid my children in those crucial, critical years to focus on the duality of interest in what you do and the reality of what you choose.

Llpoh says- EC- I vastly prefer God made to man made.

Me too bro, do you think that is the Indian in us? Of coarse, I am sending this message to you not with smoke signals but by computer.

I now find seriously being involved and rooting for organized sports quite comical, i still watch some games but cringe/laugh when people get super excited or down regarding “their” team. Over the holidays my sis had on the Man United game and actually referred to the team as “us” and “we” on multiple occasions and eventually I laughed out loud. I also dont argue or debate when i see no point for growth from the individual or myself; which is why i said iwas laughing at a text message instead of her association with “her team.”
Personally i find myself less patient with people i dont know but more patient with friends and family.

Great topic Stucky and good for stephanie, glad to see your growth and agree with ur comments regarding blogging. The novel publishing path is hard, one of my best friends has been at it too, best of luck to you.

How I’ve changed:

I’ve learned that you can still love someone from far away.

I’ve learned what makes me happy.

I value technical skills (welding/carpenter/etc) more than I do a degree.

I now deeply loathe our government.

I’m also a better cook, better at fixing things around the house, and a better person to be around.

Also, and this one is the biggest shocker…..I think I might secretly be an optimist.

SSS never met a mine he did not love. Nature is just to be raped and pillaged for the benefit of man.

But my real problem with SSS is his hypocrisy. He says he takes everything stand alone, race does not matter, etc etc. But he cannot wait to take a shot at my heritage at every opportunity these days.

And he is totally blind to atrocities committed by he CIA (torture, anyone?) or to un -Constitutional behavior of Dear Leader. Hell, he said it was fine for the president to order the killing of American citizens without trial just the other day.

I have been a fan of his for a long time. But his latest stuff is pissing me off.

Trying to justify destroying several square miles of wilderness because there is lots of copper there, the US just gots o have it, that the country is ugly and worthless, and most of the natives do not oppose it anyway is some of the most intellectually dishonest stuff ever posted on TBP.

Search up Tonto forest and check the images. That is magnificent land, and I challenge anyone on that fact. Decide for yourself f it is butt ugly and is ok to destroy.

Rio Tinto and BHP – two mining giants – swayed the govt. to allow them to mine a national forest. Ain’t that special. Search up images of copper mines for what those fuckers are going to do. Then get back to me.

Admin – I have seen a few copper mines. That photo captures the essence. Everyone I have seen looks like that.

That mine is going to screw up the Tonto forest. It is a shame what is happening.

Stuck – the natural order of things must be maintained!

I generally love SSS, but he is starting to believe his own bullshit. I am the only one allowed to do that.

I am not anti-mining. But this one is fucked up and bullshit.

LLPOH,

1. Wasn’t SSS the one who announced the land swap?
2. Read in La Vanguardia Southwest Edition that Casa Grande and 40 Casas Indians of Chihuahua are descendants of the Anasazi who may have vacated their land due to Indian wars.
3. The SW is God’s country and one of the shuttle astronauts testified to the beauty of the land as seen from Billy’s level of operations; on high.

“Has an internet debate ever changed your mind?” asks Stucky.
Nope, because debaters rely on ad hominen arguments to a great degree instead of speaking to the question; they can’t distinguish opinion from documented scholarship; they have difficulty defining terms and thinking logically; and they’re usually too influenced by propaganda.

However, internet information that I’ve found by research and evaluation has changed my mind about much or most of what I believed before internet. Before the MSM (tv, papers, mags) had a stranglehold on the information available to all of us. After internet, information available mushroomed. Sadly, most people are still satisfied with what the government, the MSM, and other institutions tell them.

I see the usual collection of assholes love to pile on at any given opportunity. Moving on ….

“SSS never met a mine he did not love. Nature is just to be raped and pillaged for the benefit of man. But my real problem with SSS is his hypocrisy. ……. But he cannot wait to take a shot at my heritage at every opportunity these days.”

Let’s take this on, one by one.

“SSS never met a mine he did not love. Nature is just to be raped and pillaged for the benefit of man.”

Pretty much true. Every fucking thing man depends on is “mined” from the Earth. No exceptions. A bountiful vegetable garden is beautiful, a copper mine, not so much. Live with it.

“But my real problem with SSS is his hypocrisy. ……. he cannot wait to take a shot at my heritage at every opportunity these days.”

Fuck you, Choctaw. No one on this site understands and sympathizes with the history of the American Indians better than I do. If you want to discern my differences with YOU as a “shot at your heritage,” then I can’t help you. I’ve expressed my support for your views and admiration for your accomplishments on many occasions here in the past.

But if I disagree with you? Foom!!!! Right square to the moon you go. Sorry, Llpoh, I don’t roll that way.

Fuck you.

Really, if SSS said fuck you asshole, Ivy league dunce, etc etc etc, I would respect that. But he has taken to racially attacking me.

And he is to dense to understand. I mean. Is “fuck you, Negro” a racial attack, or is it not? Well, so is “fuck you, Choctaw”. To understand, try it to my face.

It is fucking offensive. Most folks I would not give a shit. But SSS is not most people. As I said, I have long been an admirer of his. But that he attacks me racially given our long history is bullshit.
