The State Department has helped to relocate tens of thousands of refugees from the war-torn African nation of Somalia to Minnesota, where they can take advantage of some of America’s most generous welfare and charity programs.
But the effort is having the unintended consequence of creating an enclave of immigrants with high unemployment that is both stressing the state’s safety net and creating a rich pool of potential recruiting targets for Islamist terror groups.
In the fiscal year that ended in September, Minnesota welcomed 1,118 Somali refugees arriving directly from Africa, most of them without family ties to the state, according to State Department statistics. Overall, more than 30,000 Somalis live in the midwestern state comprising the nation’s largest concentration of Somali immigrants, according to U.S. Census data.
Many of the refugees settle near the Twin Cities, with Minneapolis being dubbed “Little Mogadishu” after the capital of Somalia.

Earlier you guys were talking Somalia. here in Canada a bunch of the Somalia youth they let in in the 90s (liberal guilt due to some war related atrocities by Candian troops back in 93′,very isolated by the way) and now there is a serious problem with these (people?) murdering each other and getting whacked by others because they tried to take over the drug trade (most moved from Ontario to Alberta where oil workers proved to be more lucrative marks). and there is this B.S. backlash about ‘why the Somalia community is suffering’? what a joke. anyone with their eyes open could see that we should not have let 90% of these people in. so best of luck to Minnisota, I hope you don’t experience the same issues Canadians have had to deal with due to your ‘compassionate stance’.

There are no simple answers when it comes to protecting the innocent. Think Corrie Tenboom and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Both went out of there way to help the Jews in Holland and Germany. Corrie did not take up arms and it landed her in a concentration camp where she continued to serve Jesus. Bonhoeffer on the other hand felt that Hitler and the Nazi regime was so evil that it was necessary to take up arms. He was in on several plots to assinate Hitler. He was killed just as the war ended.
IF Brett is there to protect innocent woman and young girls from being turned into sex slaves then we may be surprised what God or Jesus might think. IF on the other hand he is there to kill, maim and rape then God will judge him harshly. God is no passifist. He took out the whole Assyrian (185,000) in one night. As a husband I have a duty to protect my family and I will willingly kill to do that. I will not turn the other cheek if my family is under attack. If I personally am under attack there may be the need (a la Corrie Tenboom) to turn the other cheek, but to protect the innocent or my family that is another matter.

Dutchman – I too live in Mpls and have for 20+ years aside from a 2 year adventure to Birmingham AL recently. I live right on the edge of downtown and while I do not appreciate much of the liberal crap that emanates from city hall I do not think your statement of being pissed off for living here but chained by the stone house on the lake is valid. The real estate market here is hot as hell, sell the place and leave if you hate it that much. I personally would much prefer to be here than in BHM / surrounding suburbs.
